Why Should I Fix My Pet
Report
Spaying a dog or cat eliminates her heat cycle. Estrus lasts an average of six to 12 days, often twice a year, in dogs and an average of six to seven days, three or more times a year, in cats. Females in heat can cry incessantly, show nervous behavior, and attract unwanted male animals. Unsterilized animals often exhibit more behavior and temperament problems than do those who have been spayed or neutered.
Myths and Facts
Report
Fact: Spaying and neutering does not make pets fat or lazy. The truth is that pets get fat and lazy because their owners feed them too much and don't give them enough exercise. Fact: Having your female pet spayed before her first heat cycle can decrease the incidence of mammary (breast) cancer by 95%.
Before the Surgery
Report
Your pet is going to have major surgery. Spaying and neutering are very safe medical procedures. As with any surgical procedure, complications can arise and great care needs to be given both prior to and following surgery. The surgery requires general anesthesia. The patient is completely asleep and unable to feel or move.
