Blackford Veterinary Surgery

The WORST vets ever. Do not use this facility. They are supposed to be "orthopedic specialist" yet they cannot even diagnos orthopedic issues. They kept telling me "it's autoimmune" and you need to see an internal medicine vet, after they did PRP on my dog as they said he needed it. They then even gave me a referral! UT helped immensely and said "no autoimmune whatsoever". Paid Blackford an exorbitant amount of money only for their "expertise" to be dead wrong and life threatening to my dog. None of them, none at all, should be allowed to practice veterinary medicine. The damage to his leg, just for an IV was uncalled for, inexcusable and horrific for a vet practice.

We took our baby Dolly to Blackford Vet for a hip surgery. The staff at Blackford Vet were wonderful. Surgeon Becca, whose last name I do not recall, was very kind and thoroughly explained the procedure to me.

The nurses were also helpful, answering all my questions. The most reassuring news is that Dolly is recovering well. I hope I will not need their services again, but if I do, I will certainly use Blackford Vet Surgery again. I want to thank everyone for taking such good care of our baby.

You should definitely choose Blackford Veterinary Surgery Referral if you have options for clinics. I am extremely satisfied with my experience at this place. The staff members are all very knowledgeable, friendly, and willing to address any inquiries.

They recommended therapy for my golden retriever and I am grateful that I agreed to it. I highly recommend visiting Dr. Blackford and the entire team of excellent staff members.

Dr Hodshon is an amazing surgeon but if your baby needs overnight monitoring - this is NOT the practice you want to use. They allowed a vet tech to take my critically ill dog from their hospital after a major surgery. I was told he would be appropriately monitored. Instead, the tech took him to church and then to her home where my dog passed away while she slept.
(Yes, I have all of this in their file that I requested)

Yogi deserved better.
This practice, their owner, their vet techs, and their clinical judgement needs to be better.

Day-surgery might be great, but I would never encourage or recommend anyone go here where your baby may need overnight care.

*Also, they don’t keep blood products on hand. So what happens if your baby starts to bleed out….. something else I didn’t know until my baby was mid-surgery…. Seems really odd for a surgical practice.
Proceed with caution.

I've had a dog who needed surgery, a plate was placed in his right hind leg. Just had an 8 week check up, everything was fine and he could go back to normal activity. This facility is excellent with surgery and care.

Pardon my French but this place is the stuff! My dog blew out both of his ccl's and they did back-to-back surgeries on him. They did the first c c l and then two months later did the 2nd. I had absolutely no problems with him and they were above and beyond accommodating. The staff and the doctors are outstanding. If you care about your pet you will bring him or her to Blackford.

I shopped all over the area and everyone told me that this was the place to go. I absolutely agree! Everything from the receptionist to the doctors are top-notch. Thank you for giving me my dogs health and activeness back! I cannot say enough about this place being the best! My Australian Shepherd plays frisbee everyday I think that speaks for itself! Thank you Blackford!

Dr Blackford is a veterinary orthopedic surgeon. Who knew Knoxville had one. Right? I'm thankful that we do, because my crippled foster dog had a very difficult surgery here after failed surgeries elsewhere. Now she is ensured a great life in a forever home very soon! Little Kimmie says, "Thank you, Dr Blackford!"

These people are wonderful. Caring, Patient, helpful, understanding and above all give star vet services. My 44lb dog required the tplo surgery at age 7. I called more than 20 vets in and around atlanta and only found 4 that were board certified. 2 of those 4 did not do the surgery recommended for her, the other two were backlogged an additional 2 months AND would easily cost me 2x-2.5x the amt of Blackford!

My dog has already started putting her foot down just 2 days later, they hope to have that progress within 2 weeks. Then they called to ck on us 5 days after surgery. This place will be in my contacts list for as long as I have dogs.

The staff at Blackford Surgery is so kind and care so deeply about you and your Fur Babies. I can't say enough about my experience! Dr. Blackford and team have my highest regards and hold the standard to a Paramount Level in every way!

They took amazing care of our dog during her knee surgery. Staff is AMAZING and our dog is running around now with no pain. Can't say enough good about Blackford. I wouldn't go anywhere else!

I took my dog Marlin to Blackford for a consult on his luxating patella and every part of our experience was ideal. I cannot say enough good things about everyone that works there. They came out to get him very quickly and were so sweet to him. Dr. Blackford came out after the exam and spent 15 minutes explaining our options. She actually recommended waiting on surgery which I think shows that the vets here aren't just trying to schedule the most surgeries and make the most money. I know I can completely trust them to do what is best for Marlin and can call them when he needs help in the future!

Awesome care and communication. UT Vet "freaked out" over my baby's high RBC count and would not do TPLO surgery. My local vet and Blackford knew how to handle it and worked together to get it done. I felt so much better leaving her in Blackford's care rather than the chaos at UT. Could not be more pleased.

This clinic saved my boy jack, who was diagnosed with OCD in elbows and right shoulder, bilateral elbow dysplasia, and degenerative joint disease. I will forever be grateful to them and the AMAZING staff. I called over a dozen vets with many telling me to put him down due to surgery cost. Not Dr. Callie, and her team- not only did they make it affordable for me to fix my baby.

They went above and beyond to accommodate us and made it easy due to my home being in Tennessee but working temporarily in California, we did all of the pre surgery stuff in Ca and came home to have his surgeries. Jennifer and Brooke also have helped me through all of my emotional breakdowns due to the stress of the super long recovery for an over active high energy border collie. Thank you guys so much for giving Jack back his legs.

My dog was taken care of by Dr. Blackford for two TPLOs in 2019. And to this day, you cannot tell my Captain has had two major knee surgeries. The staff were all so pleasant and took great care of my boy. I would not hesitate to use this office again for any future necessary procedures.

This was my first big pet surgery and I was super nervous. Erin was amazing as was all of the staff. So informative and thorough as well as efficient. I have no doubt my Voodoo girl was well taken care of and wouldn't hesitate to not only recommend Blackford but to use them again as well.

Everyone there is top notch, we couldn’t have asked for for anyone better to help our sweet pup! Their website is full of great informative videos that tell you about the surgery and recovery. The surgical techs are great to answer questions!

Bruce had PTLO surgery a year ago. Prior to his procedure, he had visible muscle loss and was not able to use his right rear leg. Thanks to the wonderful care provided to our fearful dog, combined with the wonderful recuperation education we received, Bruce is happily playing with his canine sister and back to chasing chipmunks. We couldn't be more pleased with his outcome.
