Wellness Exams and Vaccines
Report
At Fairview Hospital for Animals we recommend yearly examinations with annual vaccines. For dogs, we recommend Rabies, Distemper/Parvo/Leptospirosis and Bordetella. In accordance with your pet's exposure, we may also suggest Lyme vaccine. Dogs also need to be tested yearly for heartworms and intestinal parasites. They also need to take monthly medication to prevent heartworms and intestinal parasites. There are many selections now for heartworm, flea and parasite control. Let us help you decide which is the best, so we can prevent your dog from getting deadly heartworms. For cats, the recommended vaccines are Rabies, Feline Distemper and possibly Feline Leukemia vaccine, depending on your cat's risk. We also recommend intestinal parasite screenings and flea control for cats.

Shelly Stevens, DVM
Owner
I received my DVM degree from the University of Illinois in 1982. After working 3 years in the region of Chicago, my husband, Dr. Groesch and I moved downstate to be closer to our family. We bought Fairview Clinic for Animals in 1989 and built a new facility in 2006. I am interested in ophthalmology, dermatology and endocrinology. I am the proud mother of three children, two dogs and two cats.

Everyone was very nice and friendly! I am new in town and I did not have an established vet here yet. I noticed something wrong with my dogs eye and I called Fairview Hospital for Animals to see if I could make an appointment to get it looked at. They were able to get me an appointment for the next day! They gave me great information and took great care of my dog while we were there!

Called at 4am with questions about our cat not eating or drinking, because the website said they'd tell us to come in if it was an emergency. Was told they open at 8. So my cat has to suffer for 4 more hours until they open. Based on some reviews here, I wouldn't have enough money anyway. The care of our fur babies shouldn't have to depend on how much money we have.

Just last week our 10 month old lab, Gunner became critically ill right before we left to go to Missouri for our daughter's wedding. While we were gone he required exploratory surgery. Dr Bob kept us informed daily on his status either by phone or text. He is still recuperating but getting better. Couldn't have had a better experience during such an emotional time!
