I've been a client here for 4 years and I really wanted to like them and find a consistent vet so I stayed. They were always helpful if I called and needed anything. But there were a lot of downsides. When taking him in for blood work, the tech struggled and pried for more than several minutes trying to get the needle in while others clinics have always complimented his veins.
Last year when I took him in for 2 annual vaccines, they ended up giving him the wrong one and didn't realize until we were on our way out. Little things like this and how they've handled him sometimes and some comments from the vet techs just aren't what I would expect from a high quality vet clinic. It's definitely not all negative. I think they have really good intentions and the doctors have always been great with him from what I could see.
They always read his body language as he gets really stressed out. I think my only complaints have been in regards to the vet techs. The front desk people are usually friendly and always helpful when they answer the phone. I wish them all the best, but I think it's time I look for a new vet clinic

We are new to Virginia, our first visit to this vet was in February, we needed to get both our babies new patient exams & caught up with all vaccines. I was very pleased with the cleanliness of the facility & was looking forward to meeting the staff. Once in the room the tech came in asking about our purpose of visit. My older dog who has allergies is also very protective over me, I told the tech to please approach her/me slowly, that didn't happen she growled & the tech seemed indifferent & said to put her on the other side.
I calmed her down & she relaxed. My youngest pup was next & he has extreme anxiety issues. He is very sensitive & skittish with others, once again advised tech to be gentle. Moving forward doctor comes in does the routine exam. I did not feel any compassion or welcoming towards my pups with either tech or doctor. Vaccines are completed, prevention are discussed, I stated, I order them from Chewy's they insisted for us to get them there, they offered a discount but didn't have all preventatives.
They stated they have a pharmacy that can mail it, so we went with that. At this point I just want to take my babies out of here. I stated I needed a prescription for my pups allergies to be sent to Chewy's, they stated they do not email or call in prescriptions. I would need to come back for a written prescription, once again confused as they said they could give me the medication there now.
I refused because of cost, at this point we were already close to $1000 for our 1st time visit & needed to come back because they couldn't give my little one all vaccines because of size, which I would need to pay another office visit. This concluded the 1st visit. 2nd visit was in & out, seemed to be rushed. Asked about anxiety medication for my pup because the calming one they gave was not working. Again, I would need to come back to pick up a prescription to mail out to Chewy's.
Visit & vaccine paid. Attempted to make an appointment today for my older pup but was told to hold & rep returned stating they are booked up for today. But I can make an emergency appointment for today, again I'm confused. I asked, I thought you were booked. She stated yes but we have emergency appointments, I would think emergencies didn't have an appointment but I was wrong, I then asked is there a difference in prices? Yes, office visit $69, ER visit $113.
I declined! I would have continued to book the ER appt. But it seems the integrity of this company is not about service or the well-being of my pups. The tone could also be sensed as indifferent, she did not give me confidence to continue with Vet Services there.

Thank you to Dr. Kathy and her staff for sending me a condolence card for the passing of my beloved Chihuahua, Coco. Each member of her staff and Dr. Kathy wrote a sweet message. I can't thank you enough for that card. When I do decide to add another furbaby to our family, I will be returning to Four Paws.

Save yourself and go somewhere else. Very disappointed that I am leaving this kind of review because I thought I might have found a forever vet. I took both my pups in to be vaccinated on Friday, late afternoon. I had called prior to, to go over everything that was going to be done. They have the pups records and all. The tech who was reviewing everything with me was as if I hadn't called and told them specifically what I wanted done.
What's the point of making an appointment if they don't go by that? There were so many extra things on there that I did not agree to when making the initial appointment. Secondly, when I stated I didn't want to get the preventatives from there, she was even ruder. Now to the part that has made me turn away completely. If you do not know how to handle pets, you should not be working at a vet.
Under NO circumstances should you ever be dragging their neck with a rope because they don't want to move and are being stubborn. My female baby girl is more antsy at the vet. I have said this numerous times but nobody believes that if she leaves the room and I'm not there - SHE WILL NOT COOPERATE. My boyfriend walked out because he could hear some ruckus.
She was on her belly with her paws hanging out as if she was doing a split and they were STILL FRICKEN DRAGGING HER! Omg. I was so furious when he told me on our way home. He purposely didn't tell me while we were there. They struggled giving her the vaccines because and then the nurse comes in and says they couldn't do the nail trimming. I told them to try now that she's in here with us.
Guess what happened? Even with being so irritated, frustrated and upset - she let them do it because we were in the room. The people she feels protected and fine with. Go figure right? Instead of DRAGGING her and aggravating her - they should have just listened and done it the way she would have been comfortable doing it. I'm not sure what further actions can be done with this, but I am definitely looking into it.
This is not okay and not right whatsoever. They not only charge an arm and a leg for a less than 5 minute exam per pet, but this is how they treat/handle their customers that they have been told several times struggle with coming to the vet? Wow. That entire evening she was shaking, squealing and hurting. Athena never acts like this at all. I'm so disappointed with this vets staff.
Instead of being about the money and trying to take more from peoples pockets, I would highly suggest wasting that time and energy on finding more animal lover techs/employees.

We would never come back to receive services from this company. The doctor Kalley, who performed Norman's Euthanasia, was very demeaning and unfeeling. In our time of stress and grieving, she baggered us about what the options were and questioned us as if we were taking our decision lightly. She never followed up with us throughout the course of "treatment" and then to tell us what we could have done was irrelevant and uncaring.
We know our dog and know what was best for him. We saw him everyday for 11 years she saw him 15 minutes maybe 2 times. Throughout the entire time we were holding our precious dog, she had a malevelant attitude as if we just wanted to kill our beloved pet. We thought long and hard about our decision and only wanted what was best for him. When our dog was gone, she actually snatched him out of my arms.
We felt very judged and not supported thought-out our dog's "treatment" and at the end. I hope she learns to interact with everyone, no matter who they are, with dignity, compassion and respect.

I brought my young puppy there to see them for a wellness exam and yearly vaccinations. The nurse and receptionist were very kind and knowledgeable, each of the front desk staff made a point to ask about my dog and comment on how sweet he is. But the dr who conducted the exam was not as helpful. I have never had a dog before and was concerned about some skin irritations I had noticed, I asked the doctor about how to prevent or treat these and instead of offering advice she stated "oh that's just something you'll see with pit bulls".
I felt rushed and like she wasn't taking my questions seriously, I was really hoping for some guidance on how to give my pet the best life I can, instead I felt disregarded and like my concerns weren't valid. A week or so later, i had to take my dog to an emergency clinic as another dog had bitten him, this doctor was not even 5 minutes into the exam before they noted that my pet has a substantial heart murmur that required immediate care from a cardiologist.
This vet stated that this was very apparent and 100% should have been noticed in his recent wellness exam. I am just thankful that I had gone to this other clinic, or else I never would have known or sought treatment for it. I will not be going back to Four Paws, I hope that their other clients do not have the same issues I did and that their pets receive the care they deserve.

It's taken a lot to write this, but I do feel compelled to tell everyone how grateful I am for the people here. My German Shepherd, Nyx, came here for 10 yrs for everything. This is the second furry friend we have trusted them with and they've never let us down. They are kind, caring and willing to help with whatever they can. My dog passed away in December and they cared for her and me to the best of their abilities.
I saw someone here discussing the "wellness plans" and I'd like to set the record straight: a wellness plan is about keeping your pet well and not to be confused with insurance for when something goes wrong. Wellness plans cover regular office visits, vaccinations, regular testing (blood work and the like) and flea/tick/heart worm meds. This is a simple way to make visiting the vet an easy and inexpensive matter.
In regards to the patron who mentioned COVID precautions? Seriously? Everywhere had to make sacrifices during COVID and 4 paws was not immune. They did everything they could to facilitate easy office visits even offering curbside visits. So, please, understand they're doing their absolute best. Again, I am grateful for Dr. Kallay, Dr. D, Ms. Garnetta and the rest of the absolutely phenomenal staff here!

Wish zero stars was an option. I just called this place to see if someone could look at my black lab. She is very sick and her normal vet is out of town. Not only did they turn us away. But after my mother had an emotion response about our dog, who we think might be dying, not getting any help. The lady laughed as she hung up the phone. Under NO CIRCUMSTANCES, if you want your pets to get real care by good people, do you take them here! These people are heartless!

The care my dogs receive from Drs. Kallay and Derakhshan and all the other staff at Four Paws is unparalleled. They're very kind and caring not only with your animals, but with you. The health problems that crop up throughout the lifetime of your four-legged-friends are scary and stressful (and expensive!). The doctors are so gentle with me regarding how they relay information about my dogs' health.
When coming up with a treatment plan, Four Paws provides me a quote of all the suggested services and then advises me on which things need to be done sooner and which things could be put off to a later date. I always know the cost of services and am never surprised when it comes time to pay. They work with me financially without making me feel like a bad pet owner. Everyone here goes above and beyond to help in any way they can. Four Paws is truly an asset to all the furry friends of Fredericksburg.

I have been going to Four Paws as my primary for 6 years for multiple pets. I am continually taken aback at the level of care, integrity, dedication to animals, knowledge, and compassion that all of the staff have. They are always honest about diagnosis and capabilities there. They have taken care of my dogs and cats from a random ear infection to spleen rupture.
They do not even remotely over charge for services. The staff have your pets and your best interest in mind, not money. Reception, care, follow up, genuine worry for your pets is above reproach. If Four Paws is within your radius as a primary I cannot stress enough how amazing and compassionate they are and how your loved ones are in great hands. A million thank you's to the doctors, LVTs, nurses, reception, and any staff I missed. Please know that your clients and patients appreciate what you and your facility provide.

Four Paws Animal Hospital is AMAZING. I've been going here for 5 years and the service is outstanding. If I could give 1,000 stars I would! My cat Camry had to have emergency surgery for an internal infection and Dr K saved my kitty's life and I am SO grateful. The staff is so friendly as well. Always smiling and in good moods. This hospital is just awesome and I am glad to call them family

Excellent service with very caring and loving people. They took us in as new customers with a very next day (Saturday) appointment. The front office staff were super kind to our children as well as our cat. The doctor and her assistant were extremely informative and very helpful. I now have a great pet doctor and I'm confident you will too!

Our three pets have been under the care of Four Paws for 12 years now. The staff is very professional, and meets the needs of our geriatric furbabys quite well. They were great when our pets were young, and have been great now that they are all up in years. We would recommend them to provide high level care to your pets.

I recently took my dog to see Dr. Kallay and her staff. When I called in to make my new patient appointment the staff was very friendly and helpful. Upon arriving, they had already gotten my records from the previous vet. The care that my beagle received was excellent. Dr. Kallay took the time to explain dental care to me since he will be requiring a dental cleaning soon. The office was very clean and the prices affordable. I recently referred family to Four Paws and they just love the care they received.
