The modern facility was designed around the concept of comprehensive medical and surgical care for animal patients. The hospital contains a complete laboratory and pharmacy, as well as an x-ray area and a surgery suite.
Backstretch Veterinary was established in 1988 by Dr. Erica Fuller and Dr. Sue Montgomery. In 1998, Dr. Suzanne Loheac joined the practice when Dr. Montgomery decided to pursue a career in public health. In 2003, Dr. Fuller decided to move on to a new career in law, so Dr. Loheac took the reins. Over the years the practice has gone through many changes.
