One adult female flea can lay up to 50 eggs per day 24-36 hours after eating a blood meal. These ectoparasites live in the environment and transmit diseases that can lead to illnesses for both you and your pet. To help detect the presence of fleas you should brush your pet, the most common finding is flea dirt.

Dr Ellis is wonderful! I've been using him for years for my dog Jake and now he has helped my boyfriends dog misty! Treated an eye infection that was not treated well by the prior vet and her arthritis has been well managed now! She's turned a corner and doing great! Every time I've been panicked -- the office has called me off hours and spent time talking to me. All the vet techs are super nice and wonderful / loving! Wouldn't recommend anywhere else to go!

This was our second time here. They've been very efficient and extremely nice, both with the check in process and with the discussions after exams. Everyone we've dealt with seems to genuinely care about our cats, which is a huge plus compared to some of our past vets. They've even started sending out digital questionnaires before appointment day to help speed up the check in process. Highly recommended!

Best vet ever! You can tell how much they love the animals. I feel very safe leaving my pets with them. They always go in happy and come out happier.

I have nothing but praise for everyone at Sunderland Animal Hospital. I had another pup who received care prior to losing custody of her in a divorce. The staff was always so kind and caring. She had lots of issues as she was a tripod pittie mix who had allergy problems as well. I was always informed as to what had to be done immediately and what could wait a bit as I was recovering from back surgery and a serious Traumatic Brain Injury.

I have another pup now and she also is seen at Sunderland Animal Hospital. Once again, I have nothing but praise and gratitude for the treatment she receives whenever she is seen. Marley is a bit of a troublemaker when it comes to having her legs, paws, and face touched. She can be a bit of a nervous nelly, to say the least! The staff has never tried to force Marley.

Now she always gets the chill protocol and I (think) she's well behaved. At least I hope so! As a Traumatic Brain Injury survivor, I am so grateful that I've never felt shamed by the staff for the things I have a little trouble maintaining, like Marley's mats. I have a lot of dexterity issues and although I've tried myself and had friends help, we can never trim the small beard dreads poor Marley occasionally gets.

Whenever I have inquired about needing help trimming her I've been embarrassed and feared the staff might believe I'm not caring for my pup properly. I was instantly relieved with their kind and compassionate response to my inquiries. I've seen a couple reviews that have not been pleased about response times and wait times. If anything, it takes me far to long to respond.

As far as wait times, personally I would much rather have to wait a bit and know the staff are taking fantastic care of ALL the animals being seen then rushing folks in order to stay on time. My apologies for the lengthy review. But I can't say enough about the amazing care my dogs have received by both Dr. Ellis and Dr. Bentley. A huge thank you to all the staff for all the hard work you do. Sadly I think the general public may forget that veterinary medicine is not always puppies and kittens and that you all choose to do this emotionally draining work.

You are all fantastic at your jobs and I for one feel so lucky to have the privilege of having my Marley cared for by such wonderful individuals! I always feel confident that any staff member who comes in contact with my beloved little trouble maker will treat her as I would, with patience and compassion. You're kindness does not not go unnoticed by Marley and Me. Thank you!

After Koonie's yearly check up and vaccinations he was returned not feeling well, as expected. My experience is that lasts 36 hours or so. Well, it's a week now and he still isn't well. His energy is low and he still has trouble getting up stairs. After reporting this situation the staff has been lackadaisical in their attention to Koonie. After calling the office about the situation I still had not received a return phone call before I called again 24 hours later.

Finally Dr Ellis called and promptly fired me as a customer and told me to take my broken dog to another clinic without so much as trying to fix the situation. Sunderland Animal Hospital has a lot of great reviews, and I was one of those for 4 years. Something happened there. Of course, I have no idea what that may have been because they don't allow pet owners inside the office! The lesson: if you have a problem with how they treat your pet, you may be fired and told to take your broken pet somewhere else.

I brought in my 15.5 yr old Golden Retriever Sir Charles into the office for a "sick" appointment today. He's elderly but you wouldn't know it. Anyway I called this morning with a problem and I got in a few hours later. Although I couldn't join my pup into the office the staff was very attentive and quick to get him in for his exam. The Dr. came out for some Pre exam questions and returned shortly after seeing him. I was very impressed with how easy going she was about the treatment plan and conservative secondary to his age. Dr. Klopfer I can't thank you enough for being so caring.

I wanted to take a moment to share why Sunderland Animal Hospital is the most wonderful place in the valley. We adopted a puppy and despite growing up with dogs, I had never had the full responsibility of care for an animal. At every turn, from her spay surgery to the weekend calls I have made to ask a question, they have been nothing but kind, professional, prompt and deeply caring about our dog.

I feel like I have a partner in getting to know and take care of this wonderful animal. They go the extra mile, always find a way to accommodate a need or understand a concern. They are also clear and direct about everything from cost to scheduling. The app is easy to use, you can chat with them directly and the information is all digitally stored. Need I say more? What a pleasure and good fortune to have this amazing practice near by.

I highly recommend Sunderland Animal Hospital. Marley always has a great experience. She recently had an infected anal gland. We only had to wait 24 hours for an appointment as there was a cancellation. Marley is a feisty wiggle worm, which can certainly be frustrating. But she’s always taken very good care of and leaves happy. It’s nice that they’re willing to prioritize things if you’re on a tight budget. We both having nothing but good things to say about Dr. Bentley and all the vet techs! We never feel rushed, even when they’re super busy. Dr. Bentley and the techs always go over what was done during her visit and answer any questions and concerns I have. I highly recommend Sunderland Animal Hospital if you’re looking for veterinary services for your pet. Thank you so much for taking such amazing care of my beloved Marley

We needed a second opinion on our 10 year old pup-and they were able to set up an appointment the very next day. A lot of vets aren't taking new patients right now, so we were so grateful. The detail and care my pup and I both received was not only deeply comforting, it gave me hope! I got a lot of practical advice, which has really helped, resources and a path forward.

I went from thinking our pup was in her final days to thinking she really might thrive for the 4-5 years more her breed typically has. Even if that isn't so, I know we have a new Vet practice that will make sure whatever days or years she will still be here, she'll be in the most caring hands. Thank you!

We had such a great experience with SAH! Kristen called us shortly after we pulled up to the curbside spot and checked in via text message. She is so sweet, friendly, and bubbly! It's really nice to be greeted in such a great way when you first arrive. She brought my pet out to me after her appointment was over and was so thorough with what medications and instructions the Dr had prescribed. She is awesome!
Dr. Bentley went over EVERY SINGLE concern I had written on their questionnaire that you fill out after you schedule your pet's appointment. You can tell she really cares about addressing all and any of your concerns. She was extremely informative when explaining the causes of my pet's issues and how to relieve some of the discomfort she was experiencing. I never felt rushed during the phone call and she was so thorough that I didn't have many questions to ask towards the end. I really appreciate the staff at SAH! Thank you so much!

I believe it to be the best animal hospital in the pioneer valley based on my experiences there and talking with friends and neighbors who have all had exceptionally great visits. I've had my dogs seen there, and others I know have had visits with their cats, dogs, and various small animals. I've had mixed experiences with other vets in the area over the years, but only positive ones here.

It's one of the few businesses of any sort that, if pressed, would have a very difficult time thinking of anything that they could do differently or better. Both Dr. Ellis and Bentley are excellent, along with every staff member that I've met there.
