Melissa Rivard

Hospital Manager

A life-long lover of animals, Melissa Rivard has been a part of SPCA Tampa Bay for 9 years and counting, starting in November of 2008. She started in the medical department, and eventually worked her way up to Foster Supervisor. Following her passion for Pinellas County’s community cat problem, in 2015 Melissa took on the role of Executive Director with MEOW Now, Inc., Pinellas County’s first non-profit TNVR (Trap-Neuter-Vaccinate-Return) program. She worked alongside the board of directors to set up the program funding, infrastructure and volunteer base. Although TNVR was previously against Pinellas County code, she worked hard to set up systems that could prove TNVR was a humane and effective way to manage community cat populations. Those programs were effective enough that in 2017 the commissioners permanently approved TNVR in our county.

In August 2016, Melissa joined SPCA Tampa Bay’s new initiative – St. Petersburg Veterinary Center – and was a part of the spay and neuter team. She and the entire new staff worked diligently to open the new hospital and make it successful to generate funds to send back to the Largo shelter (which helps more than 8,000 homeless animals a year). In mid-2017, she was promoted to the Hospital Manager position, and is excited to take on the challenging role of leading and growing the hospital into the future.

Customer Testimonials

Excellent nurses and doctors. Professional and helpful. The facility is clean and inviting and they took great care of my cat when I had to bring her in for an emergency check up. I recommend them highly. It's a stressful job to have, and they showed both my and my kitty compassionate care. A+++

Excellent staff, gorgeous facility, and low prices. Had my Frenchy neutered there and would highly recommend them. We will be back!

Awesome! My partner and I adopted our pet from SPCA Tampa Bay and brought her to their Veterinary Center for her first visit. This is my first dog as an adult so I had a LOT of questions. The entire staff was fantastic! They patiently answered all my questions and took great care of Bailey!

The staff here are amazing. They actually care about you and your pet family. They don't try to kill your pets with unnecessary procedures and medications. They don't try to brow beat you into padding the bill, with over expensive flea products that don't work.

I took my dog Bruno to be put to sleep. I never done this before, as all my dogs have passed on their own. They came outside helped me bring him in for he was 150lbs. He layed on the floor eating treats until he fell asleep. They hugged me and consoled after he left me. They even sent me a card. I have 4 other dogs, I will bringing them here for now on. They are absolutely the most compassionate, kind and caring people.

Sadly I had to euthanize my dog today and the only thing that made it a little easier was the staff here. They were so kind and compassionate...more than I could've ever asked for. I was so lucky for the care from Dr.Mayne and the nurses. Dr.Mayne even hugged me and assured me what I was doing was the best choice for my baby I don't think she or the staff know how much I really NEEDED that support. I can't say thank you enough to this SPCA for everything. Overall the helped make the best out of a tramatic experience.

I absolutely love them! They made me and my dog feel very comfortable. Very reasonable price! I wouldn't want to take my dogs anywhere else but SPCA!

I moved to St. Pete from Tampa a year ago, and it was no longer convenient to keep my Tampa vet, so I made an appointment at the Vet Center for my two dogs - one is relatively young and still healthy, and the other is a senior with several health conditions. Dr. Gisel and the entire team were very thorough in their exam of my old lady and very patient as I went through her history. So relieved to have found a good vet in St. Pete that I really like and trust.

Above and beyond excellent, attentive, loving care for our 10 year old Pug Ziggy. We love our local Vet, but tried SPCA so that we could do more for him within our budget. Yet, we still wanted the best, professional care we could get. Everything worked out perfect, and we could not thank Dr. Conway and her friendly Team enough! Would recommend them to all my friends, family and neighbors in the Bay area. Thank you SPCA of Tampa Bay! ~Clarissa, Mitch and Ziggy of South Tampa :)

The staff and doctors are awesome. The facility is beautiful with wonderful murals of local neighborhoods. And they took excellent care of my girl.

So friendly and affordable. Loved the vet and all of the staff.
