Our mission is to protect the bonds between people and their pets by providing excellent medical care in an ethical, friendly and caring environment. Central to this mission is our dedication to kindness, honesty and the education of ourselves and our clients.
San Cayetano Veterinary Hospital was built in 2003 by Dr. Daniel Horton. Prior to that, Dr. Horton operated San Cayetano Veterinary Services as a house call practice that began serving the communities of Rio Rico, Nogales, Tumacacori, Carmen, Tubac, and Amado in 1995. Animals have become increasingly important in our lives.
Dr. Horton was born in Salt Lake City, Utah into a family full of scientists and surrounded by animals. There was a goat, rabbits and chickens, as well as the full complement of dogs and cats. Exposure to veterinary medicine as an undergraduate at Utah State University in Logan, Utah solidified an already growing interest and led to the DVM degree (cum laude) through a combined program with Oregon State and Washington State Universities. Working in veterinary hospitals in Idaho, in Utah, on the Navajo Reservation and in Alabama provided a wide variety of experiences.
San Cayetano Veterinary Hospital is the only veterinary provider in Santa Cruz County that is fully accredited by the American Animal Hospital Association. We are periodically inspected for compliance with standards in over 20 categories including Patient Care, Safety, Anesthesia and Quality Control.

My girl is always well cared for and receives awesome veterinary care everytime she visits. Recently, we had an emergency and Dr. Horton and the rest of the staff (Norma, Ernesto, and Erica) that helped us, took care of my Bulldog quickly and with compassion. easing my anxiety and making sure to keep me informed to help me make educated decisions about her health and situation, ensuring her surgery went smoothly.she is now recovering and should be back to her energetic self in no time. I wouldn't take her anywhere else!

This is a wonderful, caring, full service veterinary practice. Unfortunately it is closing March 31, due to the retirement of the veterinarian.

These people are so efficient, kind, and a perfect fit for my sweet senior and ailing pekingese, Angel who has congestive heart failure. I have been to the University of IL Vetinerary Clinic with both Angel and my last dog who had the same condition, so I am quite knowlegeable with this delicate and ever changing condition. Dr Horton is very knowlegeable and spot on in her care.

They get back with you promptly, follow up after med changes and vet visits. They give my girl TLC and top of the line care on her last years, for which I will be forever grateful. Thank you!

My puppy (Gigi) was sick on a Friday I called to see if she could be seem, I was told that they were booked but that they would make room to see her. To me that was AMAZING in itself. Before calling them I called another vet in Nogales and was told that she couldn't be seen until Tuesday. My puppy could have died if I waited. Thanks to Dr. Horton and his AMAZING staff Gigi is doing well. THANK YOU!

Dr. Horton has taken care of 4 of our dogs. We moved here to Rio Rico from New Jersey in 1995. When Dr. Horton first saw Bear, he made a house call. He didn't have his building yet. We have always found him to be very caring and professional. He and his staff are wonderful and I can't say enough good things about them.

It is remarkable in this day and age to find a veterinarian who is kind, and genuine. Dr Horton is exactly that, and we appreciate everything he has done for our pets. The staff is friendly and welcoming. Thank you for all the good you do.

We have been clients of Doctor Horton since 2006 and he has cared for five of our dogs. Doctor Horton has seen us through a rattlesnake bite, a parathyroid tumor, medication overdose (when our lab chewed up her bottle of arthritis pills and ate them all at once), and HGE. Every one of those conditions is life-threatening and Doctor Horton treated them and then sent us to a wonderful surgical specialist when warranted.

Our dogs actually look forward to going in the building - that's how friendly Doctor Horton and the staff are. We've moved 45 minutes away but refuse to use any other vet. Five stars is not enough!

Dr. Horton and his staff are all wonderful people. They've treated all but one of my furbabies and I truly regret not taking Shaggy to him because the other vet who saw him didn't do such a great job.

Dr. Horton is all about money. I had a terrible experience by taking my pregnant Maltese dog there last June. I took her in a week before she was due and he said there were 5 viable pups. He did an x ray and showed it. About 3 days before she was due she started with a black green discharge. The puppies were alive then, I took her everyday because the discharge was heavier.

I even told him that if it could be the placenta detaching. He said oh no she's going to have her puppies maybe this weekend. Well that Friday night she passed a full grown stillborn puppie. I rushed her to the emergency hospital and she lost the rest of the puppies. She stayed there 3 days. The emergency vets saved her life. The emergency vets could not understand how he could have missed such an obvious placenta detachment.

The vet hospital sent Dr Horton all the scans and blood work that had been done. I never heard anything from him it is now Jan 2019. I do not think he is caring or professional. He is very expensive. If you want a caring, professional veterinarian go to companion vet in Nogales. He is very reasonable. I made a mistake by going to Horton because his place had an ultrasound machine. If I could, I would give him no stars.

I have worked 5 months here, part-time, as a receptionist. I am impressed with the excellent staff team attitude, and extensive skills of the medical staff. I hear, constantly, praise for the hospital from clients. I consider myself VERY lucky to be a part of this positive team!

Our baby Gigi was stuck with parvo (teacup poodle) very young and very sick. they gave us hope and admitted her immediately, aggressive care and hyper vigilance from the staff allowed for our baby to fight and she was discharged three days later. the staff and doctors at this place are angels.
