An experienced equine veterinarian, Dr. Conaway has been caring for Southern Arizona horses since 1978. He grew up with horses in Scottsdale, Arizona and decided to become an equine veterinarian at an early age. Dr. Conaway received both a Bachelor of Science degree with honors in Animal Science and a Bachelor of Science degree in Veterinary Science with honors from Washington State University. He stayed at Washington State University to receive his Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine with honors in 1978.
Just like humans, horses often experience oral problems that, if left untreated, can lead to a whole host of issues down the road. That's why Reata Equine Veterinary Group is committed to providing accessible, experienced and medically grounded quality dental care for horse owners and trainers throughout Southern Arizona.
Vaccinations, wellness exams, and appropriate dental work all help to ensure your horse is healthy as -- well -- a horse. These are the cornerstones of effective preventative care for your animals, and Reata Equine is dedicated to making these services affordable and accessible for all horse owners.
Horses are athletes that rely on their veterinarians and farriers to keep them in functional and competitive condition for their owners. Thankfully, injured horses now benefit from state-of-the-art digital imaging for diagnosis and advanced regenerative therapies to hasten their recovery. Equine athletes are especially prone to developing osteoarthritis and other bone- or joint-related injuries over time. All of these conditions significantly reduce an animal's quality of life and performance ability.

Very professional. Subtle and kind. Also just really efficient. No BS. The follow up staff were terrific and on the ball. Great experience in a very awkward and painful situation.

We at On A Wing And A Prayer horse farm have had a great deal of interaction with the Reata Veterinary group in the recent months. They helped get our mare in foal this year. The experience has been first rate. They are always kind, respectful and responsive. Always returning your calls as soon as possible. The experience and the knowledge that Dr. Conaway brings with him is irreplaceable. I loved the fact that he was as happy as we were about our mare being in foal. We gladly recommend Reata Veterinary to any one in the equine world.

Dr Conaway and his assistant did a very comprehensive exam on both our horses. He checked their heart rate, weight and gut. He recommended a treatment for one of my horses because she had sand in her gut. She has been on the treatment for 6 months and is doing great. Thank you Dr. Conaway. Nancy Swinford Catalina, AZ

I am totally satisfied and impressed with the evaluation of my horse by Dr. Conaway a few months ago in Tucson. His advise of using pads on his front feet seems to be working very well so far. I am confident that his diagnosis of the problem and use of pads will keep my horse going for many more years to come. Thank you, Dr. Conaway and staff for your help. Steve Sidles

Reata is amazing. They were the only place that would come out to see my horse when I started using them years ago. She was choking and it was extremely late. I had called multiple vets and could not find anyone to come out. When I called Reata, Dr. Pearson was there within 15 minutes. She provided exceptional care and followed up with me a few days later. Dr. Pearson has been out to multiple other emergencies and well checks for my horses and Dr. Conway recently came out for an emergency. Again, his care was beyond what was expected and he continued to follow up with how my mare was doing.

I will use Reata for all of my equine unless they are absolutely unavailable. They are truly one of the great equine vets left in Tucson. They truly care about your animals like their own.

My horses are free range boys. Around thanksgiving 2018, I called the boys in. I noticed Mo was limping. To my shock he had a huge, bloody, gash on the back of his leg. It was bigger than my hand and I didnt know what to do, or who ti call. So I did what we all do, when we dont know what to do. I asked advice from people I trust. I called 3 people.

My friend Becky Tucker, of Tucson Saddle club. My farrier, Ben Thurman, who is incredibly knowledgeable about horses. And a good dad. And my friend, Megan Ratzlaff, who works at Taylors tack and feed. She has been amazing in helping me with advice on my horses. After all, like kids, they dont come w instructions. All 3 people recommended Reata Equine. Dr Conway I had 2 fears. First, my horse, it was a scary wound. 2nd, how do I pay for this.

When I called Reata, I spoke w either Charlene or Sierra. Don't remember but since, both have been exceptionally considerate. They understood both fears. They told me they would work w me on the bill. That was a relief. Dr Conway was out but DrHendrix was available. Dr Hendrix and Earl the vet tech showed up earlier than they said they would. I was highly impressed by Dr Hendrix.

She knows her stuff and Ive got kids older than her! Earl, who is workin on his 2nd career, is friendly, smart, and has a natural way around horses. They took care of my boy w genuine concern, and put up w me. They both were wonderful. My boy is all better now. They kept in touch w me for after care and advice. Never any infections or problem. Ive had them out again for another lameness problem with my other horse, Rocky.

The thing is, I would recommend Reata and Dr Hendrix to anyone, and have already. In fact they havr been out to Marana to take care of another friend's horses, on my recommendation. She was as equally happy, with the sad part of horse care. These are good people to have in the corral w you Tom Cox

My 19-year-old Foxtrotter mare became lame. I asked my veterinarian about equine chiropractic. I was referred to Dr. Kate Woodard. Although the problem was not ultimately an equine chiropractic issue, she was diligent in her diagnostic approach which was both logical and cost effective. Although I am very happy with the Veterinary group I currently use, I have no qualms about recommending Reatta Equine Veterinary and more spcifically, Dr. Kate Woodard for Veterinary equine care. Superb care and great interaction.
