Dr. Kenneth DeRemer began Paws & Claws Pet Medical Center as a house-call practice while he was building the current facility. The practice is a little, local, family-owned business located in Troutdale Oregon, just outside of Gresham. The doors to Paws & Claws opened in 1994, and the hospital has been helping pets in the region ever since. Paws & Claws specializes in helping Dogs, Cats, Exotics, Birds, Small Pets and Small Mammals. We try to provide our patients with compassionate medical care of the highest quality in a friendly, caring environment with outstanding client service.

Dental care

Dental care

Regular professional cleaning is important to keeping your pet's teeth and general health. Dental disease can affect the entire body, and severe disease can cause damage to the kidneys, liver, and heart. We use contemporary and safe ultrasound to clean each tooth thoroughly - above and below the gum line. All teeth are thoroughly evaluated and probed for pockets. We take digital dental radiographs of any suspicious teeth. All pets that needs extractions receive local anesthetic injections for added pain control. Dental technicians polish teeth to create a smooth, lustrous tooth surface for resistant to plaque buildup. We can refer pets that could benefit from advanced dental care (such as root canals) to a local veterinary dental specialist.

Pain Management

Veterinary patients feel ache and discomfort under the same circumstances as people do. We understand that recognizing and alleviating pain in animals is the essence of good patient care. We also know that many animals hide their pain well, making it difficult for owners to know when their pets are painful. We try to educate customers on recognizing pain in their pets and proactively treating pain if needed. We have multiple medications and treatment options available to help your pet manage acute or chronic pain issues.

Radiology

Radiology

Radiographs - or X-rays - help our vets evaluate muscular-skeletal, cardiovascular (cardiopulmonary) , gastrointestinal, reproductive and urinary systems. We are proud to provide digital radiology and digital dental radiology. Digital radiology allows us to take radiographs faster with fewer exposures, which means less stress and x-ray exposure for your pet. Our radiographs always get reviewed by a board licensed radiologist, ensuring every detail is fully evaluated. We can also easily make a copy of your pet's radiographs for you to keep at home, or bring to a specialist when needed.

My kitty hates other people. She hates crates, cars, dogs and new experiences. So taking her in for a check up doesn’t happen often. Thankfully she’s very healthy! We went in yesterday because she’s been a lot more vocal than normal and I wanted to make sure everything was ok. The staff and doctor are definitely animal folks. She was calm and allowed them to do all the checks with no complaints or stress. This is not her usual reaction to these visits. I was also impressed that they didn’t pressure me to give her vaccines or to buy a bunch of products or packages. They just cared about my kitty’s health and respected my wishes. This was a very welcomed change after years of interacting with terrible vets. I definitely recommend them!

Vets go above and beyond. Had blood work done on my senior cat in the afternoon on a Friday and got a call back with results around 8pm. Luxy was diagnosed with hyperthyroid and has responded very well to treatment. Was able to pick up meds first thing Saturday morning. Thank you to the wonderful staff for your stellar attention and help.

Quality Care and Compassion from the entire staff. We’ve been coming to Paws and Claws Pet Medical Center for over 20 years. Until the recent passing of our almost 9-year-old bunny, and although we had moved an hour away, we still came to Paws and Claws Pet Medical Center. Wouldn’t trust our FurBabies with anyone else.

Thank you Paws & Claws! Dr. Huntsinger and staff really helped me and showed me support as I had to staff goodbye to my sweet cat Cheech. It was a very tough night for me and I couldn't have done it without them being so loving.

Customer Testimonials

Dr. Pollock and her team made the impossible to ensure my pet bird could travel down to Argentina. International bird import/export is very complicated but they helped me through the entire process to make sure my pet bird was healthy, and that all the paperwork was in compliance with USDA and international regulations. Very caring professionals. I'm very grateful, and I highly recommend them.

We absolutely love Dr. Pollock. She goes above and beyond and really cares for our pets. I recommend her to everyone I know!

From Our Website

At Paws & Claws Pet Medical Center, every patient matters, and so does the quality of the veterinary care they receive. We're a family-owned veterinary clinic, and your pets are part of our family too, so we provide our services with plenty of love and attention to detail. Need a veterinarian in Troutdale or Gresham? Our team has been serving your community since 1994, and we're ready to meet your pet too. But first, learn a little more about our animal hospital and the services we offer. When you bring your pet to Paws & Claws, you can count on our team to take their health and happiness very seriously.

When you care for a pet, you will often notice odd smells and odors from a pet's mouth. The idea of your cat or dog having unpleasant breath does not necessarily mean your pet has a problem, but it is often a sign of potential concerns. At the least, you want a pet's mouth cleaned to remove potentially harmful bacteria, even if it has not yet caused severe complications. In our animal hospital serving Gresham, we evaluate the health of your pets and recommend appropriate pet dental care when appropriate.

There are two scenarios that frighten pet owners: their pets running away and their pets being stolen. In both cases, the owners will have to prove the animal belongs to them before they can take their furry family member home. Name collars can be removed and frightened animals may not come to you, but there's one foolproof way to identify your pet: microchipping. At Paws & Claws Pet Medical Center we recommend microchipping in Troutdale for all of our canine and feline patients. It's a quick and relatively painless procedure that can save you time and worry if anything happens to your pet.

During pet dental procedures orpet surgery, knowing exactly what is happening inside the patient is critical. As a full-service veterinary hospital andemergency vet in Gresham, Paws and Claws Pet Medical Center is proud to invest in advanced diagnostics tools such as digital radiology. Our digital system enables us to take clear, high-definition x-ray images of your pet much faster, and with fewer exposures. This enables us to get clear pictures of the musculoskeletal, cardiopulmonary, reproductive, gastrointestinal and urinary systems of your pet.
