Caring for animals has been a passion since I was a young girl. I have been providing emergency, surgical, and medical care to pets for 21 years and 18 years have been here in my hometown area. What a wonderful group of clients and pets that have become FAMILY! I have practiced with North Country Veterinary Clinic for 13 years, following 27 years with Medford Veterinary Service where I gained extensive experience in soft tissue and orthopedic surgery including ACL repair, elbow, and hip dysplasia, patellar luxation repair, shoulder disorders, and simple to complex multi-fragmentary fracture repair.
Platelet rich plasma has been used widely in human and equine medicine, primarily to promote the healing of musculoskeletal injuries (e.g., tendons and ligaments), but it is now making its way into companion animal medicine. The process is relatively simple and is done on an outpatient basis in the clinic or during surgery.

Second time taking my animals to this vet. First time before getting my dog neutered I was quoted 260. Was 343$ with a nail trim I wasn't told about and the surgery was totally fine but I was way over charged and quoted. Let it slide. Called yesterday to have my kitten first appointment. Was quoted $120. Told them I didn't want to blood draw nor the nail trim.

And we didn't do any vaccinations. $175! I was also charged for a blood draw and nail trim. Disgusting business ethics. The front desk shouldn't be answering and giving quotes if she is not informed. Not just once. Will not be returning here.

The 1 star is specifically for Dr Ludwig. Other doctors there and the staff have been great. Dr Ludwig is emotionally detached from the animals and owners, and is extremely expensive, she runs tests without discussing it with you, offers the most expensive options before giving cheap or free things that can be done to help animals. My review is based on seeing her several times out of necessity when there wasn't anyone else, so it's not like I have had only one bad experience.

Do NOT see Dr Ludwig unless you have thousands at your disposal, and if she suggests surgery, I highly, HIGHLY recommend getting a second opinion. It's all about that green, and she'll run up those charges, even if your animal doesn't actually need surgery! She comes across as very kind, and I understand people do their jobs to be paid, but doing unnecessary things to get more money from people who are ignorant on animal stuff like this is plain evil.

This is a financially struggling area, we love our animals and will do what it takes to help, and she knows this and takes advantage of it. Like I said, other vets who have worked there have been great though, for other vets and the staff, here are your 5 glitter stars and recommend the other vets there, they do what's best for the animal, very nice to them, and give realistically affordable options that help.

It IS Dr Ludwigs business, so the staff are going to say what she wants them to say in regards to money, someone in the reviews mentioned they wanted a down payment, this is absolutely true and something I've experienced as well. If you don't have the money to the side to buy a used car, you won't be able to regularly afford Dr Ludwig for your animals.

Thank you for the sympathy card and kind words from you and your staff regarding Jasmine. It meant a great deal to Gary and me. You always treat our fur babies with kindness and respect, you even make their passing an easier process.

First let me say, I have been a pet professional for over 20 years and have worked with more than a dozzen veterinarians in Wisconsin for both my clients and my personal animals. Today I had my first personal life threatening vet emergency and had to rush my dog to NCVC. North Country Vet Clinic was going to be our new vet as we just moved back to northern Wisconsin, but I ended up there two months early of my planned first visit with a dying dog.

The staff at NCVC were outstanding, period. They dropped what they were doing to help and save my dog's life. They were caring, considerate of my emotional state, and treated my dog with appropriate care. They explained each action they took, kept me informed, and left me with the impression I would gladly recommend this business to anyone needing vet care at anytime. Also, after proving care for hundreds of other people's dogs I understand better than most exactly how precious our pets are to us. Unfortunately, when a tragedy strikes, we as humans lash out and need to blame others as most Yelp users seem to be so very good at doing.

My business had negative Yelp reviews from people that had never met me, never used my services, and some that were just angry and needed to vent. If NCVC had not been able to save my dog today, I would have still given them a 5 star review. They also know more about pet husbandry and living with pets in northern Wisconsin than the Madison vets had never learned about or shared with me. I feel my dog will be in good hands going forward. Thank you.

My dog needed hip surgery. I was recommended to come here by a Vet Tech. The Vet Dr. was discerning of what was needed and what was not. I had gotten an X-ray done on her from a place closer to my home. The Dr at North Country did not require his own imaging and even suggested against my original request because it would be an unnecessary expense.

He was thorough in his exam and had the X-ray from the other location. The wound where they had to go in was closed well and was clean. The staff and Dr. were kind to Penny. They kept her overnight to monitor her and followed up a few days later by phone to see how she was doing.

Brought my dog in cuz his paw was bad. They said they would look at it. Then thay said his ears needed cleaning. I said sure well I got him back and they charged me over 300$ they did nothing. Got him back home and his paw started bleeding I call the emergency number no answer. They call back two hours later so. PLEASE PEOPLE don't bring your dogs there if you care for your pets. It's not safe. My kid (dog) bleed for over 9 hours he passed out. But I did get the bleeding to stop he came back to life and is doing good.

My 2 year old bird dog ingested something while we were grouse hunting near Park Falls. He was failing quickly and lost his ability to walk. I called North Country Veterinary Clinic and Dr. Ludwig was still at her office even though it was past the normal hours. She started 3 IV's and saved him. I know he would not have lived much longer had I not been able to get him there. No doubt she saved his life.

My puppy, Kali, has never been neglected for care with this clinic. All staff treated my pup with the highest care n best service to her health. I read through these one star reviews. Any, if not ALL, vet clinics require upfront payment. Speaking for driving over the road I would know personally to have cash up front or you're going to sit with no help.

It's pretty simple, have a pet, child, or loved one.better have the means of getting them seen. Maybe, the Lord's just blessed me with a good job. Perhaps overcoming financial burdens requires hard work. My total cost for this puppy at 17 weeks old is approximately $1600 with the stress fracture and all shots. Considering cost of other regions of the country, this clinics rates are by far fair in billing.

Try $3000 in PA or VA just to be seen walking thru door. This clinic is a blessing to say the least. And as for payments made by arrangements, this Doctor absolutely worked with me and paid via debit card one week later based on good judgement of the $100. So for those who believe they've been treated awful and rate a star or less even.i bid you good luck calling around and get treated better than these professionals. Huge thanks from my family n Kali, for the outstanding work they do daily for our community!

I was visiting from out of town and had an emergency with my dog. I called and they were able to get her in for treatment right away. Everyone was very helpful, caring and friendly. They were able to answer questions on off hours and called to check on my dogs recovery. Very pleased and thankful for all their help.

After moving from Southern Wisconsin a few years ago with our pets, we were very pleased to find such an impressive Vet clinic in the Northwoods. Our lab was able to recover after knee surgery using the water treadmill and laser therapy provide by North Country. Dr. Ludwig took over where our previous vet left off providing seamless care for our pets. We are so thankful for the amazing caring staff and that we have such a wonderful clinic so close to home! Keep up the great work!
