Services
Monocacy Equine Veterinary Associates was started in 1983 as a one-person ambulatory practice by Dr. Richard Forfa. It has since expanded to include a four stall clinic facility with a full laboratory. Our commitment to superior patient care is paralleled by our dedication to continued education. The incorporation of advanced equipment and latest techniques is seen with both doctors and staff.
The office staff of Monocacy Equine schedules all clinic and farm appointments. They input client billing and accounts and maintain all equine medical records. They are in charge of the clinic medical supply ordering. It is also the responsibility of the office staff to mail all patient reminders, billing statements and client notices.
Our lobby has a community bulletin board and free informative brochures regarding health issues, pasture management, equine medications, vaccinations and reproduction. The main clinic barn at Monocacy Equine is connected to the office, the laboratory, the pharmacy and the doctors' offices. It provides an exam area complete with a stock and work area.
Equine podiatry is the understanding of the form and function of the horse foot. Combining information from a physical exam, radiology and ultrasound with therapeutic farriery can relieve and prevent foot problems. Podiatry treatments can be applied to help acute and chronic laminitis, acute and chronic heel and sole pain, hoof wall cracks or injuries and white line infections.

I have used Monocacy Equine for over 20 years. They have always been professional and very responsive to emergencies as well as making sure to get back to a client in a timely manner if the client cannot be in attendance during a vet exam. I had a horse with canker which is a horrible thing to have to go through. Monocacy sought advice from other nationally renowned vets/experts for more up to date treatment protocols. When other vets may have misdiagnosed the condition or thrown in the towel, they pursued treatment options one of which finally cured the canker.

A lot of my friend vets are either still there. Or have moved on with their own practice. Good facility.
