We know you have a number of questions about keeping your pet healthy and happy between visits to the clinic. To help answer some of those questions and create a resource for our clients, Kindred Spirits will be presenting "Ask the Vet" questions and answers online, in our newsletters, in short videos, or through other content.
Vaccination protocols are a hot topic for pet owners. With so much information available online, it can be difficult to know what's best for your pet. At Kindred Spirits, it's our mission to make sure your pet receives the best care possible, and we strive to use the fewest vaccinations necessary to keep your pet healthy.
Even though having your pet "fixed" is a common surgical procedure, we understand that you may have a number of questions and considerations to feel confident your pet is in safe hands. When we perform spays or neuters on your dog or cat, we take every precaution to ensure that the surgery goes well and that their recovery will be as easy as possible.
Using digital radiology, we're able to take x-ray at a much higher resolution than with standard x-ray equipment. Because of this, we're able to get successful images with fewer retakes (and less x-ray exposure to your pet). We can also send the x-rays to a specialist in a matter of minutes. Below, you'll see some examples of our patients who benefited from our digital radiology lab.

I moved from Bangor to southern Maind and I tried to find a vet I trusted as much as I trust Kindred Spirits. Didn't happen. They are the best vet in the state no question. I ended up making the trip for annual visits. They are worth it! The genuine love for animals is so apparent in every staff member.

We have been going to Kindred Spirits for about 10 years now and I can't say enough good things about Dr. Hanks and his team. They have been with us through good and sad times. They are caring, professional, timely, and most of all they love our pets too. We have recently spent more time with Dr. Barry who is wonderful! Dr. Barry and his staff are so knowledgeable, kind, and compassionate. Often times they have to take their work home with them but as a pet owner I'm so thankful and they are worth every dollar. I have never met with unkind staff, never been met with anything less than exceptional treatment of my animal, and they have saved my animals life over and over for the last 5 years.
I am so thankful for each and every one of them, including Dr. Hanks who has stepped in and cared for my other fur baby. My two cats are always in the best hands and I will recommend everyone and anyone to use their services, there's no one I would trust more.

The staff here at Kindred Spirits Veterinary are all helpful and caring. Just last week my canine child had to go see them. I live on a fixed budget and watch my spending closely. I was told ahead of time what each test costs and what was going to be done. The building is wonderful and there are happy people working there. A win-win in my estimation. Clare McEwen

Recently, our 12.5 pound Havanese experienced breathing and gastrointestinal problems that needed prompt attention. Despite it being a busy day, the office staff worked her into the schedule as did Dr. Haller. Everyone was exceptionally helpful, concerned, and skilled. Kindred Spirits staff and veterinarians have cared for our dogs for nearly 20 years, and care has always surpassed excellent.

Superb care for my mini poodle! When Dr Hanks first saw Larkin, he sat on the floor with her, and us, and played with her before he began to examine her. She needed hair removed from around her eyes that were causing conjunctivitis, and Dr. Hanks froze them off. Continued care in the time of Covid has been very gentle also. Dr Hanks took off his mask last week so that she knew him, after she went in without us. She looks so bright-eyed now! Love with the care means so much! We've had dogs for 57 years now, and he is the gentlest vet we have ever had.

Kindred Spirits goes above and beyond - I am so impressed with the kindness, professionalism and willingness to help from this wonderful veterinary clinic. Though good days and bad days with my sick little dog, Dr Barry has been there for us with knowledge and support. I could not ask for a better experience during this very difficult time with my terminally ill pup. Dr. Leighton and the staff are all wonderful. I have not met Dr Hanks but I hear wonderful things about him. Truly, they provide "veterinary care from the heart".
