We know that you can be nervous about surgery, be assured that our veterinarians and technicians will be doing everything possible so your pet experiences a calm, comfortable and safe surgery as possible. We have the knowledge and equipement to closely monitor all pets throughout their surgery and recovery.
Every year, millions of unwated dogs and cats, including puppies and kittens, are euthanized. The good news is that responsible pet owners can make a difference. By having your dog or cat sterilized, you will do your part to prevent the birth of unwanted puppies and kittens. Males-The normal behavior of an un-neutered dog is often incompatible with being a household pet.
We recommend that your pets receive a veterinary examination once yearly. Your pets age more quickly than humans and their size and breed influence this age. A yearly exam will allow us to review your pet's recent history, lifestyle, daily activities, diet, and behavior. The physical examination includes a dental assessment, pain assessment, and body condition scoring. We will then make a specific and detailed plan for your pet.

My pet had an appointment that was scheduled almost 3 weeks out, a few days before the appointment I called to confirm the time of the appointment and any documents needed. Day of the appointment I was told it was cancelled because I hadn't confirmed the day before even though I had no voicemails or texts as they stated is the method used for confirmation.

It was a simple vaccination appointment in which shots need to be completed in a timely manner. Lady was no help and no regard for the situation. Poor service and communication. Disclose the 24 hour confirmation needed when setting the appointment bc then I would of just called to confirm myself.

Is dr Forrest Jenkins on drugs or something? First time visiting for emergency situation, although I'm grateful that he was able to see him and examine him, when he came in his demeanor made me less confident in him about his diagnosis and treatment options. he was not able to hold his body still when he was talking to me. It was odd. I went to svc instead.

I cannot say enough good things! From the phone call to walking out the door I had a very positive experience. My chihuahua appeared to have a UTI, but my vet and the hospital they referred me to were booked until around June 2nd. My girl is 16 years old, has a small heart murmur, anything wrong could be serious at her age. The booked up hospital told me to try calling here and I'm so glad they did.

I called yesterday and got lucky they had a cancelation today. The staff was amazing, friendly, and attentive. She didn't have any blood work or anything done, but I'm also happy with the cost of the visit, it wasn't bad IMO for the visit and 2 prescriptions. I will remember this place the next time any of my dogs need anything! Thank you Alta Vista for caring for my baby girl!

This used to have one of the best customer services in the area. I've been bringing my dog here for 13+ years now. They have this irrational procedure when a customer tries to set an appointment, which makes you call on the day of. Naturally, everyone who is trying to get an appointment tries calling first minute it opens. If you are lucky, you will be caller number one or two. If you are not, you will end up on the phone for more than 30 minutes just to talk to a person. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE ANYMORE!

We can't say enough positive things about Alta Vista and especially Dr. Jenkins. We have two senior large breed dogs and he has been instrumental in keeping them healthy and diagnosing illnesses. He is extremely thorough and caught the beginning stages of cancer in one of our dogs which we were able to remove in time. Our other dog has chronic GI issues that require constant attention. He is always responsive and it is obvious that he cares about the well-being of the animals.

I can't speak highly enough about Alta Vista! I took my 9 year old cat in for a dental cleaning yesterday, including 2 extractions. I expected him to be rather uncomfortable after this procedure but instead he is happy as can be with little indication of any discomfort. Staff could not have been friendlier or more effective and the cost was more than fair. I am very happy I took my little friend to Alta Vista!

Came across Alta Vista in 2018. They have always been extremely nice and good to my pets. Need same day appointment, they try to accommodate you. Recently had to have my best friend put to sleep. Was very nervous and sad. The staff at Alta Vista made as easy on my daughter and I as they could. They came in talk to us and explained everything.

I have gone to this office for many years and always had a great experience. This weekend they were exceptional. No one, including emergency clinics would take on treating our dog, who had a large gash that needed to be addressed. All the clinics said she needed a surgeon, yet there were no surgeons available at all the facilities we called. In the meantime our dog was at high risk for infection. Alta Vista fit us in and even did the surgery on site on a Sunday. Also, the cost was very reasonable. This is a great vet office. Highly recommend.

We brought our Benny in today to cross over. The staff was so attentive. Our fur baby was suffering and when he was having another episode the doctor and assistant took him and spared us from witnessing another episode and quickly delivered relief. We are so grateful for all they have done for him in his hard times. This animal hospital goes above and beyond the call. Thank you so much!

Called this morning to get an appointment and they scheduled me for 11:30. When called to say I arrived they tried telling me my appointment was for 9:30, when I called in at 9:13 and my phone call was 6 mins long. Not sure how they could have scheduled me for 9:30. Also, waiting in the car for almost three hours without my dog being seen. When the vet tech called me at 12 starting the vet was about to see my dog. Literally wasted 3 hours and my dog wasn't even seen. Horrible recommendation.

PLEASE READ: If you love your animal, please, PLEASE, do your research and find another place to take your animal if you're concerned something might seriously be wrong. AV might be okay for standard routine, albeit expensive- but I STRONGLY recommend trying somewhere else. The day after Christmas, 2021, I had to put my dog down. She had a mass in her brain, causing mobility issues, circling, disorientation.

All the signs. I took her to Alta vista when I noticed she severely slowed down in her walking pace, stumbling, and panting. She didn't show any outward signs of being in pain, but she was clearly not herself. This was Dec 2nd. I dropped her off for an emergency visit at AV and Dr. Cox called me to ask what my concerns were, and then said he was going to examine her and call back with his findings.

When he called me back, he said she seemed to have discomfort in her tail and diagnosed her with limp tail. Never heard of it, did a google search and okay, I'm no vet- some of her symptoms fit but my dog wasn't a crazy tail wagging dog so I couldn't figure what she had done to injure herself so badly. My dog was barely 8, so it seemed severe based on how she was acting, but he said she had signs of arthritis.

So ultimately I settled on what I was hearing and thought maybe she fell off my bed or something, trying to explain her sudden change, TO MYSELF. Picked her up around 3pm. I got her home and she was okay for a couple hours, I gave her the anti inflammatory, but then she started panting again, and circling. I was concerned so I called them and they said if I can get in there in 20 minutes, Dr Cox will take a look at her.

This time I got to meet him. I explained my concerns, with my dog circling and stumbling in front of us. I said, could this be a stroke. Hinting that I'm worried it's neuro. He did a QUICK evaluation turning her head left to right- determined it had no value and brushed it off. He sincerely made me feel hysterical and stupid. He said she had a rough day being there all day- apparently she was "bucking" when he was examining her, which- eh- I'm wondering about. but I digress.

My dog never got better. I felt crazy for bringing her back 3 more times after noticing the medication wasn't helping. Her circling was so bad she was just falling over. I even asked for different vets to look at her. All they did was look at her X-ray that was taken on Dec 2nd saying we don't see anything- ultimately standing by Dr. Cox's original diagnosis until the recoup time had pass and then they couldn't give me an answer.

They tested her for tick fever. Negative. They even recommended sending her X-ray out to radiologists to see if THEY could see anything. There was never anything to see and that would have cost me more. Finally- out of desperation I found a place in Scottsdale.(I live 5 minutes-maybe- from Alta Vista) They acknowledged my concerns, validating that something was wrong and it's not my dogs tail.

They recommended an MRI, or a CT scan if I couldn't afford an MRI. They are expensive. The final diagnosis was a mass on the right side. The mass that caused all her symptoms, which no doubt was there before I took my dog to Alta Vista. I know they couldn't have saved my dog and sadly, her fate was sealed but if I can express one thing, Alta vista made sure I paid.

I walked out of every appointment with an invoice. Never any notes on what the Vet did, their diagnosis, or how they got to it. Nothing but an itemized bill for tests she didn't need, medications that didn't help and exams with 0 findings. I felt like a crazy animal person showing concern for my dog, knowing in my gut what I was hearing didn't make sense.

Even just entertaining my concerns could have gotten her on the steroid she should have been on sooner, giving her at least some small relief. I'll forever regret some of her last days being under Alta Vista's care. This is coming from someone whose parents started taking animals here in the late early 90s. Never again.

Excellent care for your beloved pets, Doctors here have superior bedside manners, staff all around is compassionate, and quality of care, very reasonable cost, hoping you never have to go here, however if the needs come Rest assured you are in good hands, thank you all that help my little dog in her last hours.

My cat was a previous patient at another vet in the area, and after being heckled to pay more money for more treatments, having to leave my cat at the vet for HOURS without being allowed inside, and never leaving without spending $3-400, I was recommended to come to Alta Vista by a coworker. This place is incredible. They take walk ins and emergencies as well as appointments. An appointment I made for my cat was two days out, which isn't bad in my opinion.

The checkin process was swift- just walked in and let them know I was there. They even have a sweet lobby kitty to greet and comfort your fur babies while they wait! Within 5-10 minutes we were in a room. We saw a vet tech, who was incredibly personable (unfortunately don't recall his name) and he took all the information with no rush. We then saw Dr. Cox who has the kindest "bedside manner".

The two of them were so gentle, kind, and loving towards our cat. We were then brought the medications our cat needed, was thoroughly explained the directions of use, and checked out at the front. In and out within an hour! I'm so thankful to have found a new vet we can trust with our cat, Barry! I know he is thankful too!

I'm new to the area and learned pretty quick that finding good vet care around here is hard, especially on a budget. My cat has skin problems and allergies, so he gets ear infections often. I called a ton of places, most of which had no availability for a month out or longer which was too long to wait. The few places that did have open availability were outrageously expensive, like $300 to treat an ear infection. Alta Vista is the first place in Phoenix where I've felt like my cat was given proper care at a fair price. Pro Tip: They have same-day drop-off appointments available if you call at 7AM.

Way cheaper than an emergency vet and pretty quick if your pet has something that needs care Now rather than A Month From Now. The doctor I spoke with (who's name ai unfortunately can't remember) was thoughtful, attentive, and quick, and she gave me a referral to a dermatologist that will be able to treat my cat's allergies in the long term. I am very happy with the service I received here and the price I paid for that service. Thanks Alta Vista!

I have brought in my French bulldog twice after taking him to emergency vet.the first time he was bitten by a scorpion and the Medicine that was given to him there didn't really seem to help and after 2 days I took him to Alta vista the staff was so professional and friendly & his issue was resolve.the second time was just this Sunday when he broke out hives.after the emergency vet his condition didn't improve his swelling came back and he was not eating.after taking to Alta vista they gave him a steroid shot as well as one for the nausea and my dog is back to eating and no more swelling. I am really happy with the service I was provided.

We were first time clients to this practice when our beloved Italian Greyhound Sprocket needed to be euthanized on a Sunday, due to a sudden downturn in his health. The staff realized the urgency and created an appointment for us on their busy schedule. The entire staff from the front desk personnel, the vet techs and Dr. Jenkins were tremendous. They were professional, compassionate and friendly during a very challenging time. They could not have been more perfect! They helped us say goodbye to our dog with dignity for all involved. I cannot recommend this Veterinary Hospital enough!

I had to bring in one of my ferals after he disappeared for 3 days and came back in very bad shape they were the closest and one of the only vets opened. When I got there they took him back and took us to a room right away and within minutes the Dr came in and said he was dying and I knew he was but needed to make sure. I appreciate the fact that the Dr didn't beat around the bush he was straight forward and that made me feel at ease because some of these other vets will tell you that they need to run more tests etc.

And before you know it you have a vet bill that's more then all your monthly bills combined. The staff was caring and friendly and I'm thankful they were open and I didn't have to make my cat suffer and the price was extremely fair for what was done when I've paid more then that for the same outcome. Thank you to the staff that was there on 10/13/21 for helping me with my boy "Face".

I have given this place a lot of chances based on reviews from friends, but I've seen enough to make my mind up after 5-6 visits. Unfortunately the bad reviews about this business are accurate, and it comes down to poor management and overworked staff at this veterinary office. You can tell that this place was probably great 5-10 years ago, but now is a nightmare to call and visit every time.

I have dealt with missing appointments from the schedule, waiting over an hour to be seen, and never being called for results. The most egregious situation I have dealt with is the recent results I had been waiting for regarding my kitten having GI issues. Dropped the fecal sample off on a Saturday, was promised a call by Monday and of course did not receive one.

After daily calls waiting on the results I finally get the reply on a Wednesday that my cat tested positive for a parasite. When I asked what the next steps were to stop my kitten from having diarrhea (and you know, potentially getting dehydrated and dying), the response was "The doctor doesn't have time to talk to you about this, he'll call you in the next couple of days." The fact that this is considered a reasonable response by this clinic unfortunately says it all.

When I went to pick up the medication and asked for an explanation on dosing, tips to administer, more information on infection, etc. I was very curtly told "It's on the bottle". The veterinarians and staff are clearly understaffed and don't have the time to administer proper care and service to everyone who enters their building, which has resulted in poor communication and service from start to finish. I would be very reticent to bring any animal here for a more involved visit or surgery based on what is considered acceptable care for routine visits. Please stay away

I have been bringing all my pets, and strays for care, and have been extremely happy with the medical and emotional assistance that Alta Vista has given my pets. There were times were even my bill was beyond my means, but they made it easier for me to be able to still take the necessary care of my babies, and pay for their services. My babies always have been happy to be seen here. They once recommended an alternate vet, and even that recommendation was great.

PLEASE READ BEFORE GOING. I have been going to this vet for years and have always had pretty good service, however today's bad service outweighed all the mediocre ones by far. I needed to make an emergency appointment because my dog threw up blood 8 TIMES - this information was given to the office. I of course called the vet I always go to (this one) and was told to drop my dog off before 11 so they could see her as they confirmed it was an emergency.

They did say it would be a wait but that they would check on her. When I dropped her off I was told that I would be get a call within 30 minutes for intake information. I didn't get a call. I waited and at about 1130 called again and they finally took the details of the incident. 2.5 hours later. Again I didn't hear anything. I had to call again at 330 to get answers.

I spoke to the vet who told me she had just seen my dog - 6.5 hours later. At this point I am beyond frustrated and anxious. I repeatedly told her I needed to know what was wrong. She talked about everything other than what the issue was. When she heard my frustration, I was told I should go into the office and talk to the manager. The doctor was very condescending and not helpful.

Finally after talking about her "physical" the doctor was recommending xrays. They had my dog for 6.5 hours and the only answer I got was "she was stable and the recommendation is to do X-rays next". So no closer to finding out what was wrong. I decided to go get her since they were absolutely no help and I found a new place for her to go to. As soon as I got home she ran to the water bowl.

She only does that when she goes very long periods of time without having water. She also made a bowel movement right when she got home which led us to investigate her feces. something they probably could have done had they paid just a little more attention to my dog. She wasn't even tested for Parvo or anything for that matter. Long story semi short I will never be returning and I have urged my family and friends not to return as well.

I think we can all agree that most of us dread going to the vet. I feel I've been taken advantage of and overcharged in the past by various vets. Because of some of the reviews that Alta Vista has I was skeptical to take my dog here, but they were able to get me in sooner than any other vet. Not only did they have the soonest appointment, but their staff was super friendly too.

To give a little background, our German Shepard Nova starting losing weight out of no where and seemed to be getting weaker as time went on. My wife and I thought we would just give her time and thought maybe she just had valley fever based on her symptoms. While she was getting weak and losing weight, she was still her chipper self and seemed happy.

Be that as it may, it was still super stressful financially, especially due to COVID. When I first brought Nova, the customer service was amazing. I have to admit, I was pretty anxious but the staff reassured me and after talking through things with them, I was sure Nova was in good hands. Throughout the day they kept me informed and were completely transparent about what the issues could be.

They understood my financial concerns and worked with me to make sure that we take all the proper steps. Long story short, we never did find out what was wrong with Nova and they ended up referring me to a specialist. Again, because of our financial situation we decided it would be best to monitor it. While Nova is not back to her weight before she got sick, she is getting better every day.

What I'm loved about my experience is that Alta Vista didn't treat me like just another number. They could have easily left me with a big bill to try and continue running even more tests and doing more diagnostic work, but they didn't. They listened to me without any judgement and gave me the best medical advice based on all the circumstances. I've definitely found my vet for life!

Zero stars. I took my dog in last year when he had a bump on his foot. After they "ran some tests." They came back and told me it was a benign tumor. Long story short - I started going to this vet because it was close to my place, staff seemed friendly. Then covid hits. It goes from a veterinarian hospital to an oil change. Where you just drop your dog off and pick them up.

Aside from lying and actually never getting my dogs tumor tested, I left that place because when you go in to a vet. Your dog needs support and I wanted to be there in the waiting room with him. I ended up going to four peaks in Scottsdale- I brought the old paperwork from Alta vista. The new doctor mentioned my dog does have a cancerous tumor on his foot. Actually gathering legal counsel as we speak. Fuck Alta vista.

I am so grateful for the compassionate and timely service of Alta Vista. After calling 7 other vets, they said yes, please bring her in. Service was fast yet I was allowed time with my dog. In the midst of a difficult situation they showed patience, compassion and support. And pricing was very reasonable. Highly recommend

Alta Vista Veterinary "Hospital" is the Used Car Lot version of a vet clinic. These people don't care about their animal patients, they only care about money. Charge 2-3 times more than any other vet? Check. Adding on additional unnecessary charges to your bill? Check. Down-talking customers and using guilt? Check. These people are pathetic. Pretty much any other vet clinic in the valley is going to give you better service by treating your pets and you with respect without overcharging, lying, or extortion.

The only reason they have any business at all is because they have extended hours. That's it. And they have those hours because they're in it for the money - they couldn't care less about the well-being of animals.

My senior dog experienced a life threatening medical emergency, life or death situation, and required immediate care. I called four other veterinary offices and was turned away; either because they were closing or the scope of the emergency was out of the other veterinary hospital's range of expertise. Alta Vista Veterinary Hospital got me in immediately, came out with a stretcher in the parking lot for my dog, and attended to my dog right away. Thank you Alta Vista for being reliable, 5-Stars! Very happy customer.

I get it. if they were called Alta Vista Animal Emergency Room, I would get them doing anything they want with your animals when they get them. But they're not. They're called Alta Vista Vet Hospital. They take appointments like a vet, they charge you for the service like a vet, they charge you upfront like a vet. If they don't get their money, you don't get your service.

But like an ER, they then triage your pet and take your dog, cat, rabbit, lizard. when they have time. They perform emergency services without asking. Good luck getting your pet seen. But be sure they will want their money - all their money - for every single late, shoddy, service performed. They're not even that cheap. That's the sad part. I've found cheaper. And. AND, I've found that others that are better take MONTHLY payment plans. If you try to ask them for a payment plan they immediately send you to CareCredit or Scratchpay. Both of which have high interest repayment. I'm done with this place.

Let me start by saying DO NOT BRING YOUR PETS HERE. Our appointment was scheduled at 12:30 today and we pulled into the parking lot and checked in at exactly 12:30. For the next FIFTY minutes we waited and waited, in the heat, with two kitties who become very stressed while in a carrier. in the car. This was the first display of a blatant disrespect for our time.

At 1:20 a tech comes out to get the cats and go over the charts and reason for the visit. We were then informed that they had no record of our previous visit or the vaccines administered by them previously. (this is the only vet we have taken them to) their recommendation was to just do the whole set over again.?!?! After another 3 hours, we get the call that they are ready to be picked up, I should mention that this visit was just for a vaccine and general check up!

What was taking three hours? And how long were our cats sitting and waiting in their kennels to be treated?!?! So we arrive in the parking lot for pick up and call to let the staff know we are there at 4:00 and the person I spoke with said "okay, we'll be right out" it wasn't until 4:50 that we finally got our boys back safe and sound. This was a regular check up that ended up consuming nearly 5 hours of our Saturday.

I understand that it's expected to be waiting a bit at the vet but so many things about today were just completely unacceptable. I will never trust this vet to do anything for us ever again as it seems base level expectations such as keeping records of shots and past visits, respect of time and your animals is not something they are willing or able to provide. I wouldn't wish this type of service on anyone and I hope this review helps someone else avoid the stress and disrespect that we all experienced today.

Alta Vista is where I took both my Basset Hound and my Black Lab for the past 10 yrs. Its also where I took them to the Rainbow Bridge. The Staff there has always been great, the hrs are great. However, I recently tried to take my Cattle Dog for a simple pedicure. Please take note that Alta Vista is trying to comply w/Covid-19 and their waiting room. 1.- pull into parking lot, doors locked 2.- text the staff that you have arrived 3.- wait in car 10-30 minutes for someone to come to your car 4.- they take your pet (tech) and you remain in car 5.- I assume they bring an I-Phone w/credit card reader to pay.

You are forbidden to go inside, be with your pet, be supportive of your pet. You sit in your car in the heat and wait. I ended up going to another Animal Hospital 1 mile from me in the PV Mall area that came highly recommended by friends and neighbors. I got in the following week and here's how it worked- 1- I emailed in new patient form 2- showed up for my appt wearing a mask, with my Dog 3- escorted to exam room by tech (also wearing mask) 4- Dr entered room and vaccinated my Dog and petted her (wearing a mask) 5- paid at the reception desk as the staff told me (also wearing a mask),.how cute my Dog is.

I felt compelled to write this review after speaking to a close friend who last week also got frustrated w/Alta Vista for the same reasons and left after going there 2 yrs w/his Dog, .(I recommended Alta Vista). I understand that being in compliance w/Covid-19 is critical and the situation as a whole is getting better but still serious. But Alta Vista seriously lost a loyal 10 yr cstmr and a loyal 2 yr cstmr.

Consistently poor service. This vet clinic feels like a factory. They are always busy and give very little personal attention. Prescription refills take 24-48 hours or more. They claim that they will call you when scripts are ready, however that has not been my experience most of the time. They accident ku filled a script incorrectly for me. Thankfully, before giving it to my dog, I realized the error.

Dr Cox was so kind and compassionate as I had to put my sweet dog down. Explained everything very professionally. 5 stars for him. The reception staff on the other had 1 star at best. Unbelievable unsympathetic. They did not show once ounce compassion and treated it as a run of the mill transaction. Jackie sure didn't act like she cared about animals and sadly is looking after ours.

This clinic issued expired vaccines to our cat. We reached out and they said they'd be "happy just to update the official medical report?" NO- we want a refund and to know our cat is safe! We are filing a complaint with the American Association for Veterinarians as their "manager" Jennifer seems to not respond to emails or calls. BE AWARE OF THIS SHADY CLINIC!

This place is the best Veterinary why let me explain : I took my rescue dog here for a second opinion first I took him to another place on January where they just took my money (hundreds$$) and nothing he just got worse., somebody recommend me this place so I took my baby here in the first consult they couldn't figure out without more test but they gave him pain medications and something for arthritis still my dog after 2 more weeks didn't get better and then i bring him back and the hardest decision had to be made for my dog to rest peacefully it was the hardest decision and one of the most painful times and the veterinary and nurses all of them acted with compasion they hugged me they are here because they love animals even the lady at the reception gave me the most kind speech that comfort my soul and heart. That's all I could say about my personal experience. Thank you Alta vista personnel

I've taken my pets to Alta Vista for many years. Recently we had to euthanize our dog Jethro, they were so kind to us. Didn't need an appointment, was able to walk in, on a weekend, and get into a room quickly, procedure, although heartbreaking, was provided with dignity and kindness. I miss my boy Jethro but was grateful for the kindness to our family in such a sad time. He went peacefully and we were treated with respect.

It's never easy to euthanize a pet it's one of the hardest things to do in life. They love you unconditionally and as humans we outlive them. Today I put to sleep my beloved Boston Terrier Eva who gave us 14 years of joy and she will be sorely missed. If you are ever faced with this decision then I recommend Alta Vista they are kind and understanding and make it as painless as possible for both you and your pets.

They have reasonable rates and most of all understanding. This is the second pet we have taken to rest with them I would not go anywhere else." Rest in peace Eva we love you".
