Hunter Veterinary Clinic Voted Best Vet in 2009 by the Pacific Northwest Inlander newspaper in their annual poll. With extended weekday afternoon and Saturday morning walk-in hours, we're never too booked to see your pet that day. Give thorough examinations utilizing modern laboratory and diagnostic equipment and regional specialists, where indicated, to diagnose and treat your pet.
Services
At Hunter Veterinary Clinic, we want to make sure your pet is happy and healthy. We offer a variety of general veterinary services for your pet that will put your mind at ease. Bringing your pet in for an annual exam ensures that your pet is in good health and if not, early detection will allows us to provide medical services to improve your pet's health.
One of the more difficult decisions for the average pet owner is to determine when they need to take their pet to the veterinarian for care. Here are our general guidelines, however they should not be taken as rules. If your pet seems very ill, do not wait to have that animal evaluated. If your pet is struggling, or working hard to breathe, or your cat is breathing with the mouth open. If you pet is having seizures lasting more than 5 minutes, or is having multiple seizures within a single 24 hour period.

I had an elderly dog that was declining, with occasional signs of improvement. On the day that I felt he absolutely needed to go to the vet I called Hunter Vet Clinic and they were able to see him immediately as his symptoms were indicative as life threatening. After some testing he was experiencing kidney failure. They were extremely patient with me every time I called, talked me through my options and were very empathetic. I had to make the tough decision to euthanize my dog. The vet and staff were great through the entire process. If you choose to cremate your pet the service comes with a beautiful box (you get a choice between several options) and name plate. Some weeks after my pet passed away they even sent me a card that the entire staff signed.
I've also taken my two cats in to be fixed. I have yet to have a bad experience with them. I don't need to go to any other vet ever again.

I wouldn't trust my pet or K9 Buddy in any other vets hands. The staff is phenomenal. Competitive prices. But I've found our furry guy a great place for all of his Healthcare needs.

Honestly, this clinic is amazing. First time exotic person owner made it difficult to pinpoint a vet that sees bearded dragons. I had three other clinics refer me to them for my girl with a broken tail. I was able to get a same-day urgent visit. Staff was amazing, very nice clinic overall and the prices are great. I will be coming back for all future needs and it's comforting to know that we have such a gem local. Thank you!

They are my new vet. I am so happy with their service at their new location. I even offered them a commercial landscaping discount to brighten up their new location! My pup loved them

The husband and wife that own this practice are incredibly dedicated, thorough, and kind. We have a pet dog with symptoms difficult to diagnose - but this clinic has proven to be competent and caring, even calling us with results after hours to share the info and their advice. Their administrative staff are professional, friendly, and helpful. We highly recommend this practice.

The staff is very kind and attentive to detail. we drive from Moses lake to get our turtle checked up on every 6 months or so - and we wouldn't go anywhere else! Thank you to the staff for listening to our concerns, acknowledging each of them, and giving us reliable advice to keep our little guy healthy!

We were visiting from out of town and our dog sustained a bite from another dog. We were seen right away. The staff are super friendly and helpful. Our dog is super anxious and not helpful when she goes to the vet at home. This was a totally positive experience for all of us.

Really disappointed with this vet clinic. My dog has a very noticeable ear infection and the vet wanted to "run a test" on it anyway, saying "oh it's just $40". Came back 20 min later and said he had an ear infection. Hmmm, what a surprise! However when I went to check out, whatever "test" this was, it was actually $65. So many vets try so so hard to squeeze money out of you, and sadly, this is one of them! Would not recommend.

I will never take my beloved dog to this vet ever again!! My dog needed dental work done and they wanted 1400 dollars from me to do the work. I’m on disability! And I don’t qualify for there “scratchpay” I asked if the vet would work with me on the bill I’ve been a customer for years with you guys! I love my dog to death she is my emotional support animal!

They refused to work with me on the bill again I’m on a Limited income this just broke my heart! Something has to be done about this it’s not fair for them to act the way they did to me and my animal! I even tried to do payment arrangements and Automatically debit my card every month! They refused I called four times to speak to the vet and never got a call back!

I was pretty desperate to find a Vet who would see my chicken for a distended crop and found this relatively new clinic online. Dr. Scrag was the NICEST man and took a lot of time explaining the condition with me. He treated my hen with a coban wrap and prescribed a steroid and antibiotics. Flame, my chicken is doing much better! She is an integral member of the flock, and I didn't want to lose her. I am switching Vets to Hunter!

Horrible service! Had been calling since they open at 7:30am, but apparently they don't do appointment scheduling before 10am. So I was on hold for 2 hours at 7:30am because there system didn't let me know that it was a complete waste of my time. When they finally call me back she says " sorry were full." So I said " my gecko is extremely sick I've been calling all moring!" And she said "nothing I can do".

I told her he will most likely die unless he's seen and today is the day and she said " all spots full". So my living breathing creature may die because she couldn't dare see if maybe I could fit in somewhere. non the less the only reptile vet in 50 miles of me. Zero star for humanity!

Thank goodness I was able to come see you guys during the Saturday walk in clinic. Idk why our pets get hurt or sick on the weekends but we got a number and waited. They were concerned about my pet so they checked her out to make sure she didn't need attention first, when they saw she was OK to wait they came out and let me know, such attention to detail.

They treated her and in less then 24h later I can see a huge difference, we aren't in the clear, but I can see she's happier. Thank you so much, I really can't believe I didn't know my cat was stressed out. Since plugging in the feliway she's been in the living room with us walking around hanging with the other cats not just sleeping with them. Yayayay im really excited.

I took my cat Lola in as a first time client this evening for her routine visit. I was very impressed with the quality of service! Mark Schrag and the other staff were extremely thorough. They were really busy but he took time to educate me about how I can manage her weight better and gave brand recommendations. Overall I felt like they really cared and took the time to show that. Thank you!

This is the absolute best veterinary clinic in Spokane. I've been taking my two dogs here for years and I would never consider taking them anywhere else. All of the staff members are incredibly helpful and kind, and they are always willing to answer questions on the phone. The veterinarians are very knowledgeable and really care about your pets. They take the time to walk you through everything and answer every question you have, and the pricing is very reasonable for the exceptional quality of service they provide. Don't look elsewhere, take your pets here!

Sad to give a negative review after 5 yrs with Hunters Vet. Since Covid they meet you at the car. Understanding this is standard for most companies currently- what follows is not. On 1 visit I was told a price and with no communication as my pet was brought to the vehicle I was presented with a bill for 53.00 more than what I was told. I was also given a quote for multiple teeth removal which I have found out now from our new Vet are not necessary.

Plus the quote changed in a matter of a few months by Ober 600.00. This is of course what prompted us to look for care elsewhere. The last visit was extremely disappointing in that our Lil gal had a nail that tore off- we took her in a were told they removed the nail and she came out with a little mini cast. To our surprise 5 days later upon removing the cast -the nail was still there, just trimmed back.

This was fine however withb. It ing the 3rd suspicious event we opted to request her Vet records and discontinue service. I would hope this review is taken seriously and if in fact others are experiencing the same thing that they change their practices.

My poor little diamond dove started to act very ill (unable to hold her head up) and I ended up using the Saturday walk-in. This clinic does appointments VERY strangely and is basically unusable for those who work a typical 9-5 (unless you usually take PTO to take your animals to the vet, I guess). The Saturday walk-in works OK for me though and worked out good in this particular case.

Be aware: the walk-in opens at 9, but people actually start getting numbers well before that. I showed up at 8:40 and was #11. I kind of wish they let people know that ahead of time. I ended up being helped at 10:50. And ended up leaving at 11:30. There aren't many options in Spokane for birds/reptile/small pets. There's only 2. They did do that thing where they just take your animal back without you.

I know this is due to COVID, but I literally haven't encountered this at any other vet besides the ER vet. I cannot stand this. That is MY pet you're treating and I am vaccinated and masked. I would like to know what you're doing with them. But again, with a bird on a Saturday and short notice, they were the only option. Everyone there was super nice.

The vet explained the situation and gave me options. We decided the most humane thing would be to euthanize her (I expected this outcome, so was not surprised). I was sad, but thankful someone was able to help my poor little dove. I couldn't handle watching her decline/suffer for another second. The wait was long, but that kind of goes with walk-in services and the staff was kind.

The pricing was reasonable; a little over $100. I probably wouldn't bring my other pets here (including my other exotics), but that's just because I prefer to go into the appointment room with my pets, and typically need afternoon appointments for routine visits.

We only recently moved here when Nick Stokes The Chinchilla had a fast onset eye issue. All the places I called were unable to see a chin for at least several days. Thanks to Hunter Vet Clinic's same day appointments we were able to get him in the day after his eye started looking sad. Nick is mad as heck but I'm super happy with the experience and care and will absolutely be back (although hopefully only for wellness checks in the future)

I am SO grateful for Hunter Vet because they were able to fit me in for a same day appointment after being turned down by two emergency clinics because I had a sick rabbit who is considered an exotic animal (non dog/cat) Because of COVID precautions we had to wait in the car and the office was gracious enough to let me put the rabbit inside so she was not overheating The office manager the vet tech and of course Dr Fielding were excellent.

There was a wait even though we had an appointment but then again I was totally grateful just to be seen. The wait just meant they were thorough and I was not the only one with a sick animal. The vet gave a very thorough exam and a treatment plan and the rabbit was better the next day. I highly recommend this clinic especially if you have an exotic animal because two of their three vets saw exotics! Thank You again Hunter Vet!

They have been so reassuring and communicative on my dogs health. The price is way more affordable than 90% of places out there too. I was literally crying on the phone when they gave a wonderful variety of options for us to pursue for her health. Dr. Schrag is amazing and every staff member I've met genuinely feels like they give a s*** about every single one of the animals

Hunter is the very BEST vet care that our family has ever received. When a life threatening Emergency came they gave us the most compassionate care and they answered every single question no matter how many times I asked and never once got impatient with me. Dr Schrag is SO AMAZING!!! He definitely went Above and Beyond!!! They gave our Nina AMAZING care and they SAVED HER LIFE ❤️They are so AMAZING and they treated us like family from our very first walk in appointment. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND HUNTER VETERINARY CLINIC. BEST PLACE IN SPOKANE!!! THANK YOU!!! We are beyond GRATEFUL to YOU

I can't say enough wonderful things about Hunter Vet. They saved my Buddha's eye and at this moment they are trying to save my teeny tiny puppy who has hydrocephalus. They are so amazing and caring. They are also doing their utmost to help fight against the spread of Covid-19 by restricting customers from entering with their pets and have a complete online and phone method of scheduling appointments. The only drawback is they only do same day appointments, but if you're having an emergency they will move mountains to get your pet seen.

Under Dr. Hunter's ownerships this was undoubtedly the very best in Spokane. However since Dr. Hunter sold the clinic we have been disappointed with the service. Misdiagnosed our 8 year old dog that had never been to any other clinic. Our beautiful and beloved Shitzu passed away a couple of days after we took her to another veterinarian and received a diagnosis of advanced Cushing Disease. Had we received the diagnosis at the time we took her to Hunter with the same, although not as pronounced, symptoms we could have started life saving medication.

I called this morning and talked to the receptionist about getting a booster for my kitten so I didn't have to restart the shots at my regular vet. She was very friendly and answered all the questions I needed- which was just the cost of the booster and I said she doesn't need anything else because we were just at my vet a few weeks ago.

When I went in the woman who came to get my kitten was very rude and made me feel uncomfortable. When I got the kitten back I handed my card over only expecting to pay $32 for the one booster. Not $53 because the exam they tacked on that I did not agree to, and the receptionist earlier stated it would just be the one booster. I did not have the extra cost planned out and now my account went overdraft. I am beyond upset. I do not recommend this vet to anyone- go somewhere else. I feel mislead and mistreated as a new patient.

Dr. Schrag and the Hunter Vet Team are incredible! Cannot say enough about the compassion care and expertise they provide. They have gone above and beyond for every visit, are easy to contact, are always friendly and listen to our needs, and have the best follow up. We are taken care of in such a way that makes us feel like we have the most important pet in the clinic. Dr. Schrag is truly gifted with animals and was a game changer for our fearful boxer mix.

He treated not only her complex allergery and medical needs, but her behavioral issues as well. it is a gift to have this level of veterinary care in our community. Would recommend every day!

The most caring place I found!! After being turned away from other vets including pet emergency, they got my little man in right as we walked in the door. They made me feel comfortable about his care. I’m just so grateful in my time of mourning. No better staff than Hunter’s!!

We love Hunter's and the staff, we feel they are connected and concerned for our two adopted cats. In the last 3 months and 6 give or take visits they have helped us figure out how to treat and help with a varied array of issues with our two boys. From the front desk to the Dr's the experience has been amazing and pleasant. Definitely recommend them, even if you have to wait in the walk in, it has been worth it.

Great vets. BUT everything else sucks. Nurses are rude, the set up it cramoed and ridiculous. If you check in for even a follow up on a 2000 dollar surgery you still have a 2 hour wait.oh and prepare to si because you can't run to grab food or walk your dog off the premises, if so the wait starts over. Insane. Prices do not make it doable

hunters veterinary clinic let both of our dogs suffering for 3 days while they knew the dogs were dying and needed to be put down and charged us 700 per dog plus another 430 to put one of them down because the other one died at the house. all hunters wants to do is stick you with a bill. they could of done a toxic screen test and told us the dogs needed to be put down but instead charged us for a whole bunch of meds and let us leave knowing the dogs were dying.

Our kitty was seen as a walk in and he was pretty stressed. Dr. Schrag was so gentle with him and took time to let him calm down. He was just wonderful. He explained what seemed to be going on and provided a personalized plan of care. The staff are very nice and helpful as well.

I cannot say enough great things about Hunter Veterinary Clinic. The walk in hours allow for so much flexibility, you might have to wait a while but it’s worth it to be seen when you need to be. They gave our new puppy his shots and gave us great advice on food and training. Our older dog hates the vet and normally won’t eat in front of strangers but Dr. Cobb had her eating treats out of her hand in no time.

She was so patient and sweet with my anxious dog. Every visit we have had has been pleasant and informative. They go above and beyond EVERY SINGLE TIME. We thought we needed dental work for our older dog but the doctor saved us almost $500 by recommending a toothpaste for the little bit of tartar she had. We thought our puppy broke his paw but the doctor assured us he was fine after an exam instead of performing unnecessary and expensive x rays. It’s nice to know that they are budget conscious. It’s small, the parking lot is tiny, and the wait is always long but that’s because it’s the best.

I have been using Hunter Vet since I moved here in 2014 and I'm very very happy with them. The doctors always do everything they can to make my GSD more relaxed and not stress him further. The walk-in appointments are a great feature as well, and yes you can still get a scheduled appointment if that's what you prefer. Great bunch of folks!

My cat, Kevin, got sick out of the blue (turned out to be a life threatening UT issue). Hunter Vet Clinic got him in the same day, kept him overnight, and offered personalized after care instructions. All of the staff was kind and compassionate. I highly recommend Hunter Vet Clinic for all your animal needs! If I could give more than 5 stars I would!

5 stars all the way. This place saved my dogs life. Awful neighbors poised my 6 month old puppy and she was dying in my arms. Came running in frantic, waiting room full of people, they took my dog right in back and immediately and started working to save her life. Any other vet I've dealt in the past demanded payment in full before they lifted a finger.

These people actually care about animals and there lives then making there pockets full of cash. Love the fact they have daily walk in hours. Think about it. who does that? Will not go any where else. LOVE THESE GUYS

Took my dog to this place with a swollen face. The doctor looked at her teeth, said nothing was wrong with her teeth. (That I already knew). Saw her for a total of 5 minutes, after waiting for 30, for an emergency visit. 75.00 later for meds and visit, would not give payment plan, (didn't have money at the time) so they took away the meds that my dog needed. Don't visit this clinic, they truly don't care about your animals, just how much money they made from you.

Brought my dog in limping, the doc said that "nothing was wrong" before so made sure we had paid, seems like money is the only thing that motivates them. $50 to tell us something incorrect. Took my dog to a different clinic where they were able to identify the problem and treat him. I will not be going back and will be asking for a refund, there are much better options in Spokane. Please avoid this place.

I cannot rave about the front office staff and Dr. Schrag enough, they have gone above an beyond for myself and my cat. Let me just start out by saying that during this visit, my first visit with Dr. Schrag, my 4-year-old cat was diagnosed with cancer in her stomach as was given 2-4 weeks to live. During the entire process of learning my boo had a death sentence the staff and Dr. Schrag were nothing but amazing.

They took SO much time for me, let me come ask questions, sat with me, and repeatedly explained things to my shocked self. They gave me choices for treatment, explained all the costs and differences and gave me the weekend to think about it. When I made up my mind it was a simple trip to pick up everything I needed and I mean everything, from prescription food, food lids, a pill gun, and medication.

All at reasonable prices, I was never shocked at the amount, for the visit or medication cost. The most expensive thing was the ultrasound that had to be done off-site during the diagnoses phase. Wait that's not all: I moved to Portland soon after and was really disappointed to have to leave them. On a trip back to Spokane I needed to pick up more medication for my cat, since I had yet to find any wet as great there, and went to the office on a Saturday at 2:00 far after they had closed, not knowing their hours, and one of the Doctors opened the doors for us and let us pick up the medication!

It was a life saver without that my cat would have been miserable for at least a week. I now have finally established a vet here, still not as great, and have kept in email contact with Dr. Schrag asking his opinion on the recommendations that this vet is making. And even though I'm not a current customer, he answers and helps me through and through. Hunter's Vet and Dr. Schrag are still my top vet, even if they are 5.5-hours away now.

Due to treatment and all there help my kitty as made it a whole month so far! Anything past this is a blessing. Also a side note: I was recommended to Dr. Schrag and Hunter's Vet by a good friend who has pet rats, no one else in Spokane had shown her the time, compassion, and thorough understanding as he did.

When I was 18 years old I thought it would be a good idea to get a puppy. I had no idea a year later she would have such horrible allergies and would require surgery. She scratched her poor ear so hard she burst a blood vessel and caused a hematoma. She had to have surgery and have it sutured open for 6 weeks. When I brought her in and they told me the options it was unfortunately much more than what disposable income I had at 19 years old.

I was broke, on my own, and scared of losing my dog. Basically in tears I offered anything I could for collateral to do a payment plan. to my surprise they went above and beyond to set me up on something reasonable so my dog could have surgery. I paid it over many weeks and have been going there for the last ten years. Fortunately, now I am very stable financially and haven't had to plead with them for a payment plan!

But for having sympathy for my situation and taking great care of my dog they will see my animals for life. Just today I dropped off a urine sample and absentmindedly left my wallet at home. I told her I would call and pay over the phone when I got home, and without missing a beat she smiled and sent me on my way. Seriously, they are the best, the staff has all been there forever and Hunter and Schrag are awesome! All these bad reviews I have no clue where they are coming from!

I shall begin by saying if you are going to this clinic to see Dr. Schrag, you will be quite happy. He is as smart, compassionate, and well-informed a vet as I have ever seen as a lifetime pet owner. The staff is likewise an engaged, kindly, helpful, passionate group of professionals who couldn't be kinder or more thoughtful. They strive at every point to go above and beyond to help care for the welfare of the pets in their charge and are a pleasure to deal with.

The reason for the single star on this review is because, first and foremost, it is impossible to rate lower. The cause is the man whose name is on the door. Dr. Hunter is simultaneously inept and cruel. I took in a suffering animal to be put to sleep. While Dr. Hunter was inaccurately administering the euthanizing drugs - which he had to do repeatedly, jabbing my poor animal again and again because he couldn't seem to handle the most basic of injections - he was brutally manhandling a sick animal in a way that I would consider abuse under normal circumstances.

To witness it in perpetrated on a dying creature was appalling. I will reiterate: If you see Dr. Schrag and deal with the other staff, you will be quite pleased with your experience here. I would not take any creature, however loathsome, to suffer the odious, incompetent "care" that Dr. Hunter provides. He has the bedside manner of a thug on parole, clearly mistreats his patients, and is unable to perform rudimentary tasks to completion.

I personally wouldn't use him as a butcher, much less a veterinarian. This is a case of a heartbreakingly poor leader running an otherwise wonderful operation, but the benefits are all fruit of a poisonous tree.

We've taken 3 family members (dogs) here since 2002 mostly out of convenience - very near my office. I even recommended them to several friends that were looking for a vet near downtown. I never visited the office when it didn't feel chaotic and staff members seemed stressed/unhappy or new and unsure of what to do. My husband suggested switching to a new vet for years but we just kept going out of convenience mostly for spay/neuters and shots when needed. Fortunately nothing major.

Our final trip was in August 2014. My husband brought our dogs for shots, a check-up, an estimate for teeth cleanings, a nail trim, paid our $200 bill in full and went on his way. At the end of October, I received an invoice in the mail for $38 dollars that said it was for a past due invoice plus late fees. I thought it must be a mistake and called the office.

It turns out that this was for the nail trim and they forgot to add it to the bill in August. They tell me it was a $14 charge for a nail trim.plus $24 in late fees. $24?!?No one called us after the fact to let us know they missed it. We could have just paid it over the phone. They claim to have mailed us an invoice in September that I never saw. Now it's October and the invoice has increased 150% due to late fees?

And still no phone call. I said I had no problem paying the $14 but wondered what we could do about the ridiculous late fee since this was my first notice of owing anything at all. The person on the phone said she'd have to ask Dr. Hunter about it and she would call me back. She called me back the next day and said Dr. Hunter agreed to cut the bill in half and i could settle it for $19. Really, Dr. Hunter? Are your late fees that important to the success of your practice?

I questioned it again but they stood firm. So. I paid the $19 and we are happily going to a new vet now. I should have made the switch sooner but this was the final straw. You've lost two customers and my future referrals over your $5, Dr. Hunter.

I've been seeing Dr Serena Copley at Hunter Vet for about a year and a half, since moving to the area. I am so glad my coworker recommended them. The Saturday walk-in hours are a Godsend so I don't have to miss work every time my dog needs a vaccine or a check up. Sometimes the wait is a bit long on Saturdays, but when doctors are giving up a weekend morning and you don't need to schedule an appointment, who can really complain? Dr Copley is caring and compassionate, and you can tell that she really enjoys her job and loves animals.

She is always so sweet with my dog, loving on him and giving him treats. Dr Copley answers all of my questions and addresses all concerns. I never feel rushed even when I know there's a waiting room full of people for her to see. The office staff is always kind and courteous and showering my dog with affection. Totally pleased with the care I and my dog have received. I would recommend them to anyone.

Never again will I bring an animal to this clinic! I've had family members swear by this clinic for years - and the few times I've gone there before today I've been satisfied with the service. Today was a completely different story. We took our cat up today after he started having some issues/pain urinating. They told us he had a urinary blockage problem would be fine for a day and to bring him back tomorrow.

As the night went on he got worse and worse to the point he was almost passing out (trying to urinate his eyes would squeeze shut and he'd start convulsing). Hunter's was closed at this point so I called two other clinics to get opinions. Both urged that I take him to emergency care because this could very well be life threatening. If they were recommending that I bring them to their clinic I could maybe believe they were trying to drum up business for themselves but both clinics urged that I take him to urgent care tonight. My girlfriend is taking him up there now and I can only hope he'll be alright. None of my animals will be visiting Hunter's again though.

This business is simply the best. We were visiting Spokane and our little Havanese kept worrying his ear. They were good enough to see him on a Saturday without an appt. We went there because our family in Spokane had such high regard for them. Dr Mark Schrag fixed him up with an antibiotic for his ear infection and gave us another helpful medication.

I noticed what I thought might have been a small error in our invoice and called once we got back to Seattle. The doctor himself returned my call and his staff remedied it immediately. They also called to follow up on Desi's progress and gave me helpful hints to get his medicine into his ear in a more efficient manner. I just got a whole packet of their information in the mail. Great place. You'll be pleased. Iversons
