After having my mare for 20+ years I was torn. I didn't know if it was my selfish love for her (I also owned her dam and her son throughout the years) that was keeping her here. With age comes problems. She became sore on both front feet. After treatment by numerous shores and my current vet, I spent a lot of money (which didn't matter to me) and seeing her in pain everyday I was referred to Dr. Gibbs for a second opinion by a dear friend.

I called him and explained the situation. Dr Gibbs came out, examined her, looked at her recent x-rays and offered a few different options. I said I would do anything I could afford to do for her. I then asked the same question I had asked my current vet, "What would you do if it were your horse"? My current vet had told me he would try every option. Dr Gibbs, I feel was honest with me and said that with the x-rays, length of time of the chronic pain and her age that he doesn't feel that we would ever rid her of the pain. If it were his horse he's let her go. And so with love and dignity, Dr Gibbs gently put her down. Rest in peace my girl!!
