Homepetdoctor Com Dr Steve Smith has over 30 years of experience as a veterinarian, and he's been totally mobile since 2005. During the pandemic, he and his technician use protective gear, maintain strict social distance and work as quickly as possible for everyone's safety. If you don't need full service at home, virtual counseling is available for $75, by text or email.

If your pet has an issue that might benefit from some thoughtful advice, please don't hesitate to reach out! You can set it up here. Dr Steve provides as many veterinary services as he can pack into your yard, driveway, patio, living room, kitchen, bedroom, bathroom or balcony.
Services
Dr Steve Smith was born in Ohio, but he grew up in Canada and Michigan. He graduated from the College of Veterinary Medicine at Michigan State University and earned his Michigan Veterinarian license in 1990. In the six years that followed, he worked at two animal hospitals on the border of Grosse Pointe and Detroit.
When your pet's quality of life is at its lowest ebb and it's clear that they're suffering, it can still be a difficult decision to put them to sleep. Some people describe this process as heartbreaking, surreal, or "the hardest thing they've ever had to do." Others may feel immense guilt, or avoid making the decision altogether.
Dr Steve strives to keep his fees fair and comparable to those of his colleagues, but they are definitely higher than fees at veterinary hospitals these days. An estimate will be provided on request, before any services are performed. If you have questions, please don't hesitate to phone or email. All fees are up to date.

Clearly bitterness and anger are not my issues. Please let me know what you need to move on.

Do not let this man in your house, he is unhinged. A year ago I left a 3 star review and since then he's messaged me or responded to my review around 25 times all in the spirit of harassment, often in the middle of the night. What a sad and pitiful existence to be so tortured by Yelp. My initial review focused on his lack of bedside manners and his solution was to go full steam social retard.

Well done. Perhaps focus on being a better doctor instead of bullying people that don't give you perfect reviews. Believe all the negative reviews, be doubtful of the 5 star reviews.

We made the painful decision to help our senior dog cross over. Our dog was suffering. He was panting a lot, he was restless, no longer enjoyed walking because of Arthritis and had a hard time getting comfortable. I was able to hold my dog and tell him I loved him over and over while he passed away in the comfort of my back yard.

On May 13. I was totally stereotyped and disrespected by Dr. STEVE. I was desperate for an appointment for my sick dog. After he informed me that he does not travel south of the 10 Freeway, I asked for a recommendation for my outside dog. He sent me a tersely worded, chatising and disrespectful email full of assumptions. I guess he thought I have a solo dog chained up in my yard with no socialization?

Completely wrong. I have 2 socialized dogs that simply sleep in an elaborate kennel in my back yard( they are 100+ pounds each). Here's a copy of what he sent. One more thing I should point out. If you have a dog that lives by himself in a yard 24 hours a day, he will most likely become antisocial and dangerous. Please never do this with another dog ever again. Dogs are pack animals.

They evolved to be with others. When you prevent that socializing, you can really screw them up. My response: I have 2 dogs. Bonded for 7 years. They are walked, exercised and socialized daily. Please don't make assumptions. Maybe it's a great service for people that don't live in "the hood" But for us that do, take your yard dogs elsewhere.

Dr. Steve got back to me very quickly through email and was very helpful with his assessment of my cats condition. He was able to make an appointment faster than the other services I had contacted. He arrived with an assistant. I was glad to find him!

Dr Steve did a beautiful job with our boy Jerry. Jerry Michaels had been fighting cancer two years. He was a real tuff little guy. His time was here. Thank you Dr Steve for helping him pass over so peacefully and smooth. Rest In Peace Jerry Michaels. AKA Snowballs.

It's been a little while since we lost our last beloved baby, over 20 years old! We miss them so much. It's so difficult to get over the grief of loss. It's been hard to consider bringing some new loved ones into our family, can we endure the inevitable grief? Another aspect of the said loss, is not having the opportunity and sweet pleasure of seeing and communicating with Dr. Steve.

It was such a blessing to have found him. His caring manner and sound advice, generated by education, experience and empathy was so appreciated. Our girls loved him and his tech, when they'd visit.that alone spoke loads, in our constant companionship, our girls were a great judge of people, I kid you not. Our Golden retriever, a beautiful boy, with a very bad past, destined for being put down, he was rescued and loved by our good friend, who sadly passed away, and thus "Buddy" became a permanent member of our pack, he also trusted and was accepting of Dr Steve's gentle treatment. Dr. Steve became an important person in our dog/human/life experience, so understandably we also miss seeing him.

We are quite fond of him, with reason, he is a great Doctor and a damn good human, a fantastic combination! With all the political insanity of the last 5 years or so add to that the Covid pandemic it has been a very difficult time for everyone, I won't call it "short of a nightmare" it's been a genuine nightmare. A great toll has been taken on everyone, some tenfold, but all the same, a draining emotional horror, an upside down period of unbelievable lunacy. Well, Dr. Steve is still thought of, in conjunction with missing our pack.

Thanks to Yelp, which we are believers in, we found his practice. Yelp is very good, but not without caveats. It takes a bit of familiarity to get the pulse, have an understanding of its nuances, one of which is sorting through reviews, extrapolating under tones and motivations of reviewers is handled by algorithms to a point, we, as users of Yelp, need to use a little judgment, to aid in it's effective usefulness.

There will be negative reviews, based on reality, sure, but scrutinize. When I see an unhinged negative review, I often look at the author's rating history. This can often lay to rest a suspicion of something being off about the writer. When the majority of a scrutinized poster's reviews are negative and tipping the scale on vile, that's a big warning.

Look further, and likely you unearth, a very mean, unhappy, uber nasty, lonely bored being. A failing of Yelp, these are not flagged or noted as such, we have to do the work. The rantings of a defective Yelper soon become obvious. When a business or person has a long standing stellar series of reviews, look further into the negative nasty reviewer's history, sure there are genuine fallouts and bad experiences, but as I was told as a kid, "consider the source". Don't fall prey to someone's unreasonable vindictive reviews. Odd, it may seem, but Dr. Steve is one of the many positives that are included when we talk of adopting again.

He rounded out a very nice nice experience, same as our groomers at Julie's. We always knew we were providing the best for our beloved babies. We wouldn't have it any other way. Till we can process the grief and introduce new loved ones into our lives, Dr Steve is an important part of the equation. An excellent Doctor and a damn good Man.

I can't recommend Dr. Steve enough. As other reviewers write, he really cares about the animals and their well-being (and their humans too!). Along with some routine care, Dr. Steve helped me with the tricky and time sensitive process of moving with an elderly cat and dog to Japan (lots of vaccines, paperwork, government agencies!). I had a bit of a crisis with erros in the pets paperwork issued by my previous vet, but Dr. Steve was completely committed to making sure my original vet, rabies labs, and the USDA all coordinated to resolve the issue as quickly as possible. Don't let his low-key/reserved demeanor fool you -- he is an extremely kind and compassionate doctor, along with being very skilled and smart, and I'm very grateful that I found him! (Shout out to his assistant as well, who also seemed very caring and great at handling the animal as during visits)

Don't take my word for it -- just look at his responses to unhappy clients. Calling grown people names! He's better at showing you who he is than I am at describing him.

Ive used this doctor for my pets and would recommend him without hesitation. I am also a physician and the idiot woman that wrote her review seems to have no clue what making a reservation, making a deposit means for either the patient or the doctor. I wanted to just laugh at her review. I couldnt because the review process is hurtful to the doctor and in this case, someones animal that might take this woman seriously. Deposits are used to prevent exactly what this woman did to Dr Smith. On behalf of every client that youve helped, im sorry and thank you

Enough said *see screenshots attached* This isn't my first encounter with pretentious, unfriendly, and disrespectful doctors and services in LA. I'm the client and not gonna give anyone money where I'm kissing a** and making the majority of the effort.

Dr. Steve is one of the few vets that seems to genuinely care about pets. I have had several disappointing vet experiences in the last few years. it was so nice to have a vet who cared, did not put money first, and was knowledgeable on a rare disease. I highly recommend him.

Dr. Steve came to release my sweet baby 16-year-old dog to the hereafter. It was the hardest day of my life to make this decision. He evaluated her and told me I was making the right decision. He was very kind and respectful to my feelings and to the heart-wrenching process. Furthermore, he made sure she was comfortable, and I was ready to say goodbye.

She passed peacefully and without distress or discomfort. I know I did right by her. He took care of all the aftercare arrangements and gently took her with him in a nice basket when he left. My heart goes out to anyone who has to make this decision, it is a difficult, painful one, I am grateful for Dr. Steve and the service he provides.

I can't speak more highly of Dr. Steve - our cat Frank swallowed a string and went through 2 major surgeries about 5 years ago, and needless to say he doesn't do well with vets. That goes out the window with Steve. Frank loves him. Steve has been instrumental in helping us identify and treat Frank's hyperthyroidism, helping us out every step of the way with any questions or concerns. You would be crazy to go anywhere else.

Critical: Quality, Value Very disappointed with this individual's services. Came to our house twice and never examined our sick dog properly. Had to get another mobile service to give us any real information. Best to avoid.

I can't say enough good things about Dr. Steve and how compassionate he was helping me transition my beloved dog. His patience, professionalism, extraordinary care and kindness made a heartbreaking experience very peaceful. Having to transition a beloved per is absolutely excruciating, that said, Dr. Steve's wonderful manner and gentle approach was tremendously comforting. I cannot recommend him enough!

We moved to Los Angeles from San Francisco where our cat Velvet had a wonderful mobile vet took care of her since we adopted her 8 years ago. We found Dr. Steve through another vet that didn't work in our "territory" (new to us but that's L.A.! He and his assistant showed up and got right down to giving Velvet a check-up, much needed nail clipping and bloodwork. Velvet was good most of the way thanks to Steve's calm bedside manner - as any animal owner knows pets can read that.

After he finished Velvet didn't run, she sat at a safe distance to continue to check him out. I would recommend Dr. Steve to anyone who's animal is as spoiled as mine is. After all, isn't that why we have them!

Dr. Steve is the best! Very thorough, gentle and kind. Having the vet come to your home saves so much trauma for you and your pet. Marcel gave a four paws up for Dr. Steve's visit.

We will always be thankful for Dr Smith's care of our previous cat, Puck. And, recently we had to make that request every animal lover dreads. Our cat, Fast Eddie, was losing the battle against lymphoma. With the help of Dr Smith, his last moments in this part of his journey, were peaceful and beautiful. Thank you for being there Dr Smith. We are forever grateful.

This is an excellent veterinarian I would highly recommend. He has a great bedside manner. It is a wonderful plus that he does house calls (how incredible in today's age!) He is an overall caring and extremely professional veterinarian in a world of unfortunately often money oriented others. Easy to get ahold of via email - he gets right back to you. 5 stars are not enough. Try 10.

Dr. Steve came to my home to euthanize my cat who had become ill. He answered all my questions, was easy to talk to and sympathetic. My cat had become aggressive, he gave her a sedative first, then administered the other solution. He left me to spend time with my cat and came back with a wicker basket to place her in. He takes care of everything, is understanding and compassionate.

I had to have him come again for a cat that I had just adopted from the shelter. She was in bad shape but detoriated quickly after adoption. He answered all my questions, listened to my rambling since I was very upset. I will definitely be using him as my regular vet. He is definitely a blessing.

Highly recommend Dr. Steve... I'm very pleased with his expertise and comfortability with my cat. His prices are pretty fair considering he does in home visits, which for cats (& me!) are much more preferable than putting my pet through the stress of putting her in a carrier & taking her to a local veterinarian's office. He spent the time to answer all of my questions and didn't rush through our appointment. I'm glad I made the decision to switch my cat's veterinarian to him. Thanks Dr. Steve!

So. It was time. Sadly, this vet was out of town, but he stayed in touch and was wonderful about not having us wait. I wish he was around then, but I also appreciate service that is so kind and quick, as his responses were.

Dr. Smith is a wonderful vet who takes the time to listen to you and truly cares about your pet. I reached him through email and he got right back to me to set up my appointment. He answered me with smart thoughtful questions -- I was very impressed. I would highly recommend him to anyone.

Excellent doctor! Not only is Dr. Steve Smith a wonderful home house call veterinarian, easily reachable on email, but I truly admire him as an outstanding human being. This veterinarian keeps his cool amidst the crazies who have nothing better to do than to post ridiculous posts. Where did these people go to medical school? Dr. Smith believes in helping the people, going to them, and doing whatever is necessary. He helped my girlfriend so kindly through a very difficult time. I would recommend him to everyone.

Dr Steve came to our home to euthanize our dog Sammy. The experience was as peaceful and calm as it could be.
Steve returned my phone calls and was able to accommodate us last minute. He arrived to our home with an assistant. They were both professional and mindful of our feelings and of Sammy's. He very clearly explained the process and when we were ready we moved forward.

It was a very hard day , but I was so relieved that at home service was an option . Sammy was able to spend her last few moment at home in her little bed with us by her side. If this is an option for you then I highly recommend it , and you can have confidence that Steve is a good choice.

Dr. Steve's in-home pet euthanasia service was a blessing to our sweet golden retriever who was terminally ill. We let go of our 10 year old Caesar on Jan 21, 2019. Caesar was always terribly stressed going to the vet office. It was a relief to find Dr. Steve and have him come to our home for our boy's final moments. Our family was of course upset and in tears when Dr. Steve arrived.

We tried to keep our composure but all the while Dr. Steve reassured us that we need not apologize for our grief. The doctor has professional bedside manner and excellent acumen in a highly emotional situation. There were no judgements from the doctor, only support for us and our beloved pet. We thank you Dr. Steve, and we highly recommend your service to other pet owners and their families.

This is a difficult review to write but I feel that it needs to be done. We had to make the heart wrenching decision to put one of our four legged family members to sleep. He let us know when he was too tired to keep fighting so I did my research and came across Dr Steve's page. I emailed him about our situation, and he responded back quickly. His prices were so reasonable and he made accommodations to come later in the evening on the same day so that everyone could be home.

I was able to set up the appointment with him through email. He made everything so easy and a little less stressful. Unfortunately our fighter got called up to doggy heaven and passed on his own right around lunch time. Heartbroken I emailed Dr Steve to let him know. He emailed back again right away expressing his condolences. It's hard loosing one of these fur babies.

It's just like loosing a real human family member. Sometimes you just have to come to terms with letting go even though your heart is fighting it. Hopefully you'll never find yourself in this situation, but if you do know that you're in good hands with Dr Steve. He responds back to your questions so quickly, he's very accommodating, and compassionate.

And for those of us that can't afford to pay a thousand dollars to end our fur baby's suffering, Dr Steve's prices won't leave you with a huge bill. His prices are very competitive and far more reasonable than other places I asked about. Plus some of the other places I inquired about never even got back to me. When you're on a budget and a crisis like this comes up; obviously you want someone that can answer your questions right away so that you can make this informed decision. Although I didn't end up using his services, I'm so grateful I found him. He made making a difficult decision a little bit easier.

I got used to veterinarians being rushed and mean and pushing hundreds of dollars of unnecessary tests at us, but this guy was the opposite. He stayed and answered all my questions. He gave me options and information. The prescribed what I chose to do for my dog. Best vet we have ever had (and I've had a lot). Thank you. 100% recommended.

My 14 year old dog was not acting right since last weekend. I emailed Dr Steve Sunday with his symptoms and about coming to the house. He answered back so quickly and gave me advice on what to do. I ended up taking him to a vet near by for x-rays where he was diagnosed with heart disease, and fluid on his lungs. We started him on meds Monday night.

He passed away at home this morning. I was going to use Dr Steve for at home euthanasia, but sadly he passed on his own. I will definitely use his services in the future. He got back to me several times in a timely manner with good advice. Thank you so much.

I'm very grateful for this service. He's an incredible vet and I would use him for other services, like check-ups and vaccines, too. He's the perfect doctor for people with pets who get very nervous going to the vet. And I can not say enough about how happy I am that we got to put our cat to sleep at home instead of in such a clinical environment.
