From Our Website

Highland Road Animal Hospital has been providing veterinary services to Baton Rouge for over 40 years and has the remarkable accomplishment of having been an AAHA (American Animal Hospital Association) hospital for nearly 30 consecutive years! Dr. Randy Thayer opened the hospital in 1968 to offer quality care to the pets of the Highland Road and Kenilworth areas. As the area has grown, so has the practice. Dr. Carrie Fox joined the practice in 1995 and transitioned to owner in 2002. Dr. Thayer retired in 2004.

We have a beautiful NEW veterinary hospital that is a dream come true for your pets and for us. Our new, state-of-the-art facility provides us with the best technology and environment to care for your pets. Below are the veterinary services we offer at Highland Road Animal Hospital. Do you know that proper dental care can extend your pet's life by YEARS? Broken and infected teeth can abscess and be very painful. Infection can also spread to heart, lungs, kidneys and other organs and cause life-threatening illness!

When you're away, trust that the veterinary staff at Highland Road Animal Hospital will treat your pet as if they were our own. We have three types of boarding for your dog and will work with you to provide the best overall option. If your dog loves outdoor play, you've come to the right place! Our boarding and playcare facilities feature three huge outdoor turf yards with plenty of toys and play equipment specifically made for dogs. We have two sizes of indoor runs. Our large run is good for any size dog.

Our patients LOVE our boarding suites that are complete with TV and beds. The more active dogs will enjoy the indoor-outdoor runs that allow for tons of room to run around with outdoor access all day at their own whim. Our beautiful QUIET cat condo area has a large window and a view of butterflies and birds! Cats can also relax in the suites - we have plenty of climbing toys and cat- friendly toys. We also enjoy the sound-absorbing ceiling panels in the kennel - so will your pet! They cut down on stress that can be created by noise.

I feel extremely fortunate to wake up each morning and know that when I go into work, I will be doing something that I truly love. I have always loved working with animals, and with each passing day I become more excited and inspired by veterinary medicine. Practicing at Highland Road Animal Hospital is truly my dream job as I am a native of South Baton Rouge and I have always wanted to raise my family in this area. My interests include surgery, internal medicine, and dermatology, but I truly cherish any opportunity to improve the health and happiness of our four-legged patients.
