It is not often that I leave a negative review, as I much prefer to talk with the owner of the business to resolve my issues. In this case, the owner of the business hung up on me and refused to even hear what I had to say. Dr. Grant was incredibly rude, unprofessional, and I did not trust her to care for my pet. My puppy was seriously injured and bleeding.

He was locked in a crate for an hour and a half before Dr. Grant informed me that the only way she could even evaluate his injury was to put him under anesthesia, completely shave him, and do surgery. When I asked if there was another alternative to evaluate him, she unloaded on me and told me that I didn't care about my puppy or his health. She talked over me, insinuated that she did not have time for my questions, and showed no concern at all for my dog. I should have checked the reviews before I took him there. The front desk clerk was also very rude. This is an awful facility and I do not recommend it to anyone.

As near as I can tell this business is a front for an elaborate scam to extort money from pet owners by holding their pets hostage while you sit in the parking lot waiting for hours to hear what may possibly be needed for your pet ( because they didn't actually look at the condition) all at a minimum $150.00 office visit fee that you pay before you can take custody of your pet.

And as an added bonus they apologize for the wait and explain how "busy" they are and whoa is them so over worked as if the rest of the world has it so easy and we just don't know what it's like to have to work so hard like them. Ha! Get a clue some of us have worked our asses off for a long time so stop your crying! I'm not going to lose sleep over the $275.00 dollars they stole from me (yes I paid for some antibiotics because I do care about my dog) but the experience will make for interesting conversation over beers with my attorney and law enforcement acquaintances.

Oh and also the fun conversations I'll have with my friends who are "human" doctors and nurses when I tell them that the good doctors at Great Lakes Pet Emergencies are comparing their work to theirs

They took the best care of my cat when I thought it was catastrophic. The listened to me, and found that it was easier to mend than expected. The after care instructor was thorough, and the follow up call was just what we needed. No complaints, only gratitude.

Very compassionate. We had to put my daughter's cat down. They gave her all the time she wanted to say goodbye. Yes the tests were expensive. Remember this is an emergency facility. Thankfully I could pay for them. We were glad they took her and gave us peace of mind there was nothing we could have done to save her.

I want to thank all the staff that helped me last night with my fur baby! When I had called them last night desperately needing somewhere to take her they got her right in! I live about 30 minutes away and I only waited about 10 minutes in my car! They are very thorough and knew exactly what was wrong with her! They called my after my fur babies emergency surgery to update me.

I was unable to get her into her personal vet today due to them being closed. They had Amy stay after for me until we got it figured out. They called a nearby vet, Cole Vet- which I highly recommend as well. I can't thank all of you enough!

We took our cat here after we were second guessing another vets decision. They were very kind and helpful and helped gave us options. Unfortunately our little guy was a lot sicker than we originally thought and had to be put to sleep. They were kind and compassionate and let me sit with him through it all. Thank you Great Lakes Pet Emergencies for all you did for my little Biddy.

HORRIBLE PEOPLE, they only care about money and WILL turn you away even in DIRE situations. They do not care about pets at all. All they want is their stupid money upfront. They are rude and uncaring. We are lucky enough to know a vet tech and she was able to contact her boss, "if I had the staff here I would do it". I was told by this place that thier uncaring policy is "how they keep the doors open" really?

When smaller vets, who charge way less for the SAME EXACT PROCEDURE AND PROCESS, can take the small chance of taking payments. Pathetic excuse for a vet hospital, that should care for animal, especially when in pain.

The nurse on the phone when I first called was extremely rude. When we got my cat to the clinic it was about an hour after his scheduled visit time that they came and got him. They did numerous tests, and I got a call saying it was most likely either heart failure or cancer. They refused to do any further testing until we provided funds, so ultimately I had to make the choice to put him down.

What makes this review so low however, is the fact that when they brought me into a room so I could be with my baby, I could hear staff joking about "not wanting to make the call", hearing a woman say, "when I heard cancer I knew I was gonna give that call to you", and a man replied "of course you would do something like that". This broke my heart because I knew that they were talking about my baby.

We had him cremated and we have to return to the clinic to pick up his ashes this afternoon, and I am more than unhappy having to face the staff again. DO NOT visit this clinic, you're better off finding a different one to go to. I know that if the situation didn't occur at 9:00pm my cat would probably still be alive in the care of our regular vet, an office that doesn't just see animals as a money

If you don't want to overpay go somewhere else, if you want your pets to live go somewhere else, if you want to be with you pets when they pass go somewhere else. The staff is rude, they run unnecessary test for the markup and the vet either refuses or just can't give you an in depth diagnosis of what happened to your animal. Almost every pet I've taken here has died and the ones who haven't weren't in critical condition.

If you have a pet in critical condition expect to be put on hold and wait in your car for an hour. While all other offices have lifted Covid restrictions the place still will not let you go in with your pet. The only thing you are is a dollar sign, this place is uncaring, unprofessional and most of all has zero accountability.

I had to take my 17 month old golden retriever here for a stomach blockage and they wouldn't do any treatment or surgery until that hand sticking out for $$$$, was filled first. They wanted $1,877 to admister fluids through IV for half of Saturday through to Monday. I didn't have that kind of money on the weekend and had no choice to bring him home.

I did my best with pedialyte by syringe to keep him hydrated. Well at 5:21 pm this Monday evening, I laid my precious boy to rest. They just couldn't do it and get paid when I picked him up. Oh and you NEVER meet the vet. There's more to life than money people, love of an animal. RIP Moose

Without this place and the people who work there, I don't know what i would do. My pups got into the trash and ate some expired food and got deathly sick. My pups would be dead without this place and I can't thank the staff enough. They're extremely helpful and compassionate. They may be a bit expensive but they will love and take care of your baby as if they were their own. Couldn't do it without them.

My 15 year old cat was having difficulty breathing and I had to take her here for the first time. I was nervous because of the terrible reviews. She ended up needing to be euthanized. It was an awful time for me but the staff were all so kind. Dr Damm was absolutely amazing. So compassionate and patient while I said my final goodbyes. I am forever grateful.

I had called about my dog eating my eye lash glue and they basically told me I have to figure it out on my own. They gave me poison controls number and told me they can't see my pet until they get an answer from them and it may take an hour for them to answer. They would not answer any of my questions or even get up to ask a vet. Not only was the receptionist very disrespectful but she interrupted me and would not answer my questions till we "get an answer from poison control" Thank god poison control answered and gave us more then enough information on what the next step was. If you love your pet DO NOT TAKE THEM HERE!

They assisted us last night with our dog. We called first before arrival and the person who answered the phone was compassionate and gave us instructions on what to do. Within a matter of moments from arriving, they were outside assisting us to get our pet to x-ray. Results were quick and unfortunately prognosis was not good. They were attentive and knowledgeable in explaining our options and helpful in guiding us through the end of our visit. Thank you.

I have no rating, your are the most uncompassionate place I have ever bought my Pet to, all you care is money, even if you have some they want more, I was told when my dog was dying, labored breathing that we had to go, I gave them 300 for them to give my dog a shot, our dog was put back in the car and we took him home to die, and he did, all because of money, we were able to pay on the Monday, I will not stop until I tell this story over and over again, how do any of you sleep at night, you are heartless, People Never bring your animal here, read the reviews, you should be reported to the Vet Board, my husband and I are Seniors and lost the love of our life for money!

We brought our cat there after being referred from another vet. Our little guy had an intestinal obstruction and I was told that he needed surgery and that Dr. Grant would do it later that day. We got there and sat in the parking lot after they took him in. Dr. Grant didn't trust the diagnosis from the other vet, who she claimed to know, but said that if we insisted on surgery and "were warriors" she'd do it.

But she recommended that the x-ray images be sent out to be read again. She wasn't confident in her ability or that of the other vet. She said it's normally an hour or so, but they were really busy and it'd probably be the next day. Sure enough, the next day came around and the blockage was confirmed. Still no surgery. Later that night he had surgery and the obstruction was removed.

We were told to be there the following day by 8:30 to transfer him back to the other vet. I asked if they were aware that he would be coming back and she said that they were. Got to the vet and transferred him back to the other vet. They had no idea he was coming. They took him and told us that we could probably get him later that day if he was doing well.

So we picked him up at about 4:00. Got him home and he wasn't doing well. We called Great Lakes and they said it was from the surgery and that we were over-reacting. So we sat with him. His temp continued to rise, and he became nearly unresponsive. We took him back and they checked him out. We were told that he was septic and we needed to take him to another vet for surgery and antibiotics.

But it would cost about $10k and he'd probably die. Said our only option was humane euthanasia. I won't go as far as to say that they don't care, but I will say that they can't provide the necessary care with the volume of pets that they're treating.

Wishing I could give negative starts here. We took our male cat here a week after a surgery. Our cat was peeing very high volumes of blood. Spraying onto our walls even. Our regular vet said absolutely nothing about us possibly expecting this with post treatment. We noticed this late at night and decided to take him here. Worst experience we've had within the vet community.

The Dr. working was extremely rude and belittling to us. Dr. Audo said there was other critical care patients there (which I understand) and then proceeded to ask us what we want her to do. As if I too went to veterinary school and am a doctor. she talked to us like we are stupid. The technicians working were wonderful. The Dr. wouldn't even speak to us, personally.

She had the techs going back and forth communicating for her. They did nothing for my cat, took my money and told us to take him to our regular vet in the morning. AWFUL doctor with a lack of social skills, empathy and common sense. ill never be returning here again, I suggest the same to other loving pet owners.

Go she saidThis place doesn't care about no animals all they care is about money i gave them, $671 last money i had to help my cat that just had kittens to tell me that she has Ammonia that she would have to stay here at hospital for two days and it would cost me another $2500 or my other option is to put her down i couldn't believe Absolutely nothing for her I will never come back here again I know I never let anybody come here I cannot believe that they aloud to be in in business also just ask the nurse If she looked better than she did when she got here It took a second for her to even answer And she said not really that she look the same I am so disgusted with these people Never again I will put my pet in their hands To help her

LOVE THE STAFF. The people who work here are amazing, honest, and do really care about the people and animals that walk through the doors. The prices are a little bit higher than a traditional vet clinic but that is understandable as this is an EMERGENCY clinic. Keep in mind this is not a location to take a stray as they will ask the person bringing the animal to take responsibility for payment. Once again, understandable as this is not a non-profit vet clinic.

If your dog is dying, keep driving, look for another place. The only thing this place cares about is money! It's not the patents, not the familys, plain and simple MONEY! By the time I could get there he'd probably been there 2 hours.they gave him seizure meds which didn't work, and put in an IV.nothing for pain, nothing for anxiety, no one to hold him.

When I asked if he was in pain she said we really don't know.but probably! When we saw how this was going we knew we had to put him to sleep, so we told them and they came in with paperwork, and a bill for over 300.00, which is when we were informed they woulden't put him to sleep until the balance was paid. We tried to make an arrangement and offered them the 53.00 we had, and balance 1st of the month, but no had to be the balance.

By this time my baby is limp in my arms and screaming.thank God for brothers, because mine did a cc over the ph so they would do it! The lack of compassion, the strong arm tactics, show me what kind of a place this truly is.at that moment in time I would have given my arm for them to take my sweet boy out of agony. I wonder how many others they pressure like that just to get money! If I were you I would be ashamed of myself. I thought people became vets because of their love of animals.obviously not in this case.

Our small dog was having a mild panic attack, so we called the hospital and they gave great helpful advise on how to distract him and calm him down. Almost right after we got off the phone, our dog was walking around and was acting normal again. Thank you for your help, Astro appreciates you!

Worst place I have ever taken my dog. Brought our dog here after he ate poison. Super lacking in compassion and completely rude. If you are going to work at an EMERGENCY vet service, you should expect owners to be worried and want to know that you are making the best decision for their family member - especially if it contradicts another vet. We would never have gone here if it had not been a Sunday. We got more compassionate service and more information from the vet at the company that makes the poison he ingested.

It hurts to even give this place one star, I took my cat in and paid 300$ just for the doctor to do blood work and tell me he's sick, and further testing would need to be done. He then recommended we keep him there over night for about a $1000 quote. Absolutely absurd, unless you're incredibly well off stay clear of this place as they'll take you for every last dollar.

The doctor also made up lies saying my cat was in "critical condition" and he "wasn't sure if he'll make it through the night". Just to scare me into paying for more tests etc etc. Well, Today I went to another vet, was seen and had blood work done for only 100$ and walked away with not only an answer to what the problem was, but a solution for the problem as well. Hailey was fantastic, but otherwise avoid this place if at all possible.

TLDR; Great staff, VERY reasonable emergency fees, clear communication. When my dog, who had been having some stomach upset, threw up part of an intact corncob, I got concerned he might have a serious blockage. My regular vet was out of town but recommended getting an X-ray. At the recommendation of a family friend, I called Great Lakes Pet Emergencies.

The staff who answered the phone at Great Lakes Pet Emergencies was friendly, quick to get all the necessary details, and gave me great driving instructions, as I had never been there before. When we arrived, the staff was busy with a critical emergency but they got us checked into a room fairly quickly, while still focusing on the more emergent case. (as they should).

The intake tech, Shiya, was friendly, kind and listened carefully to all the details of how my dog had been doing recently. My dog can be a difficult, fearful patient but she approached him with calm and generally handled him in a low stress manor. We saw Dr. Bullock, who had listened carefully to the intake tech and therefore was well prepared when he came into the room.

He also approach my dog with a calm, gentle demeanor, listened carefully to my concerns, and clearly outlined his suggested course of diagnostics. After X-rays were taken, Dr. Bullock went over them with me thoroughly, explaining his observations (and thankfully that no blockage was apparent!). They provided digital copies of the imaging right to my email, and were very happy to provide my regular vet with any additional information needed for any follow up.

I was provided with clear written discharge instructions, and was surprised by the bill being VERY reasonable, as it was both after regular hours, and included several X-rays.

Absolutely a WRETCHED place with heartless people working there. All they care about is money. I've never encountered such heartless, soulless people working with animals before. The sight of their name sickens me. I had a horrible experience a few short years ago. I noticed they blocked me on Facebook, because I wrote the truth. Don't be fooled by them. I'm not the only one with a bad experience. There are other bad reviews. Go anywhere else. STEER CLEAR AWAY from them.

I had taken my pet dog here on an emergency over a holiday weekend, it was the only emergency pet shelter open. He was in pain (he's fine now, don't worry :P). The staff (mostly consisting of younger VA), were ok, the vet on staff I found a bit. rigid. When I had arrived the vet recommended to take x-rays, I agreed. She was pushing me to use anesthetics which were quite costly because my pet dog was in pain.

I had asked if I could be in the room with the x-rays to soothe my dog, he is a very timid dog and usually curls up next to me during thunderstorms. She had said it was illegal for me to be in there during x-rays (when I returned home I looked up anything on the subject and found nothing about Michigan state law prohibiting clients from being in a vet x-ray room during the procedures).

I wish I had recorded the conversation. Anyway the bill ran me $700 in addition to blood test, and the vet did not draw any immediate conclusions. She had recommended invasive surgery (extremely expensive), an observational study using Barium (slightly less expensive), or a scope (slightly less expensive). She seemingly tried to direct the conversation toward the invasive surgery, which involved a third party being called in.

So I had asked if it was possible that we could "wait it out" with pain killers. She didn't seem to like discussing that option, though it seemed the best option as a college student with very little money and based on the evidence (like I said, nothing on the blood test or x-rays pointed to anything obvious). In the end I had taken the pain killers & muscle relaxants.

The following week I had taken my dog to my regular vet (Laursens in Fairgrove), where they took him in for overnight study. The bill was less than $200, they put him on antibiotics. They said the pain killers I had received were overkill, it was a drug called Tramadol. Laursen's had said they were for more severe pain like a dog hit by a car.

After the antibiotics, my dog was immediately better and we had a special dietary food that was full of gut flora. I never saw my dog eat food so fast. That was 10 months ago and my dog is happy as ever. It was an expensive lesson that I hope some people can learn from. If you have other emergency options they're most likely better, unfortunately I did not and I could not live seeing my dog in pain.

Tonight was a sad night. Our Shitzu went into heart failure, however the vet who was there was amazing. After speaking with him in detail we decided it was best for her to go to doggy heaven and get put to sleep. The vet gave us a lot of time with our sweet dog So we could say our goodbyes. He was very nice, polite and pet her/spoke gently to her during the process.

It was a very sad situation but we were comforted knowing she was being treated so well. The cost of the emergency services was very reasonable and they did not try to milk us for money - I would highly recommend them to anyone searching for a wonderful veterinarian who truly cares about animals.
