I would give a zero if possible. I brought my senior dog (age 10, Labrador retriever) in for a visit and was concerned because he was vomiting and having diarrhea. I was sent on my way with a bunch of medications and a diagnosis that he had a stomach/intestinal bug. A few red flags popped up at the visit, such as how Dr Scott casually flipped one ear back and told me it was infected and needed to be cleaned out and have antibiotics without even using an instrument to examine the inner ear.

He also suggested a lot of procedures that didn’t seem helpful to the visit at hand but more so to make him extra money. I want the best for my dog but feel like I have to do a lot of wading through what is necessary vs what is not when I just want to rely on faith in a doctor not trying to swindle me. It’s important to add this was my first time in the office because Covid restrictions had only allowed dogs inside.

A little over a week later my dog was vomiting and having diarrhea and not eating. This all happened as I was about to leave town so I needed someone else to bring him to the vet. He was still a patient at Camboro vet and they opened sooner than fairview, so I called upon their opening and was able to get an appointment. I wasn’t about to wait a half hour or hour more when my dog’s health was concerning me.

I took the first one I could because of the emergency of the situation. I needed fairview vet to send over a list of medications and the diagnosis from the last visit with dr Scott and they did email them to me after I called a second time. I had no idea the offense Dr Scott would take to this. I also had no idea that this terminated us as patients until I called for a prescription refill for my other dog who had nothing to do with the emergency situation.

I was told they could not fill it because we were no longer patients there. Dr Scott will say (and did say in a text) that I was offered an appointment but declined it instead asking for records to be transferred. This is false. I never asked for an appointment because I already had one at Camboro. I only needed one record and never imagined that would terminate us as patients.

I am not disappointed that he is no longer our vet. I had my suspicions and his unprofessional and unethical behavior over our senior dog solidified it. Incidentally my dog died a few days after the emergency vet visit due to liver and kidney failure. My loyalty was to my dog, not Fairview Vet. Anyone whose policies are like this will never get our business. I would not only never recommend him- I will make it a point to tell people to never go to him. He is awful.

11/6/20: I have updated my review of 11/5/20 to make it as clear as possible. On 11/3/20 at 9:22 PM, the night before an appointment I made about two weeks earlier, FVH texted me from (970) 822-0069: "Due to a family emergency Fairview Veterinary Hospital has to cancel [my pet's name] appointment tomorrow. We apologize for the inconvenience. Because she is a sick patient we are referring you to the Erie Pet Emergency Center, which we recommend you take her to tonight.

Best regards, the FVH team." It was weird, there was no offer to reschedule the appointment, and my dog wasn't sick requiring emergency care. She had been vomiting off and on and I just wanted to check on it. I texted them back at 10:17 PM: "Ok never mind. It seems you are having a lot of challenges. I hope things work out. I guess I should get another vet?" They did not reply.

On 11/4/20 at 10:36 AM, I was emailed the records for my animals from a no-reply email address. I texted FVH at 12:07 PM: "I received medical charts for my animals. Does this mean that you are not in business anymore?"
On 11/4/20 at 12:12 PM they replied: "We are most certainly in business, having our best year ever! You have received your records because you have been dismissed as a client for repeated rudeness to our team.

Best wishes." I was shocked and baffled. I had no idea what they were talking about. I've always had great relations with them and have always enjoyed my experience there. I've taken several of my pets there, and there was never even the hint of an issue. Dr. Johns, his staff, and I were always really nice to each other. It seemed this is a case of mistaken identity.

They must be confusing me with someone else, right? On 11/4/20 at 6:04 PM I replied: "I beg your pardon? What rudeness? I think you are confusing me with someone else. I've been coming there for 10 years or more and never had an incident or conflict with anyone. I hope you can discover your error. Otherwise I will be contacting Dr. Johns himself.

And I will be posting what I think of your treatment of me everywhere I can. Yes, I'm upset. I will be posting a review about this. If you apologize and make it better then I will fix the review."
On 11/5/20 Dr. Johns himself apparently responded to my first version of my review with a bunch of really damning religious talk. I was flabbergasted.

I texted him about it his hypocrisy, and he texted me to "cease and desist". He then revised his reply and toned down the religious rhetoric, but still managed to threaten me with the PA State Police. Wow, talk about getting out of hand. This reminds me of dealing with a narcissistic personality. It's impossible.
Initially, I thought about contacting Dr. Johns to let him know about all of this craziness and that he had must have a rogue employee there, but at this point, it's not worth my trouble.

I don't need him or anyone there calling the police on me for trying to help sort out the mess they made. I can imagine him charging me with harassment or "extortion". I've already been kicked in the a** once, I don't need to invite another kick. One thing I know: I've never been rude to them unless you consider my texts above to be rude.
Honestly, I've always been very happy with the service of FVH up until their weird text on 11/4/20.

That's why I always drove across town to go there even though I move away from Fairview almost 5 years ago. At this point, I'll take my business somewhere else where they appreciate me and I'll be sure to spread the word about my treatment by FVH wherever I can. Something is really wrong there, and I wouldn't want anyone to be treated like I have been treated without at least a warning.
BOTTOM LINE: I DO NOT TRUST FAIRVIEW VETERINARY HOSPITAL WITH MY PET, OR WITH ME. BIG BIG THUMBS DOWN.

Had some work done on my dogs and had another neutered. I used to be a vet tech and can easily recognize a good and honest doctor in the vet business. Dr. Johns was extremely personable and down to earth. The staff was also extremely helpful when one of those same dogs was hit and killed in the road in front of my house. They helped me emotionally and walked me through my hardest times with my pets. Thank you FVH.

Everyone was very kind. They made the appointment during this difficult time with Covid-19 very safe. We felt very comfortable taking our Harley there for her first visit. Dr. Scott was very kind. The prices were very fair and I didn't feel guilted into getting unnecessary shots for our girl. Will return and highly recommend.

I have been bringing my 3 cats here for over 4 years and have always gotten excellent and affordable care. As my cats have gotten older and their health status has changed, Dr. Scott encourages my questions and answers them all, taking as much time as necessary to be sure I understand what's going on with my cats. Back before the days of COVID when I could go in the exam room with the cats and was able to see his interactions with them, he would even sit on the floor with my cats to examine them so they would be more comfortable. Even though I no longer live in Fairview I still travel out here for all of their care and I will continue to do so!

My old vet told me it was going to cost me lots and lots of money to help Kona with her allergies but Scott helped me right away and Kona isn't itching anymore! They did all the shots right in front of me and loved Kona so much even though she was being vocal with all the other dogs lol! So happy with our first visit!

The dr cares greatly about your pets health. He helped me take care of my oldest dog until we had to put him down and everyone was so nice and helpful whenever I had questions.
