Shelly Stevens, DVM

I received my DVM degree from the University of Illinois in 1982. After working 3 years in the region of Chicago, my husband, Dr. Groesch and I moved downstate to be closer to our family. We bought Fairview Clinic for Animals in 1989 and built a new facility in 2006. I am interested in ophthalmology, dermatology and endocrinology. I am the proud mother of three children, two dogs and two cats.

Products & Services

Wellness Exams and Vaccines

At Fairview Hospital for Animals we recommend yearly examinations with annual vaccines. For dogs, we recommend Rabies, Distemper/Parvo/Leptospirosis and Bordetella. In accordance with your pet's exposure, we may also suggest Lyme vaccine. Dogs also need to be tested yearly for heartworms and intestinal parasites. They also need to take monthly medication to prevent heartworms and intestinal parasites. There are many selections now for heartworm, flea and parasite control. Let us help you decide which is the best, so we can prevent your dog from getting deadly heartworms. For cats, the recommended vaccines are Rabies, Feline Distemper and possibly Feline Leukemia vaccine, depending on your cat's risk. We also recommend intestinal parasite screenings and flea control for cats.

We offer indoor, temperature controlled boarding services for cats and dogs. For your pet's food time, you may bring toys, blankets, beds or their own food. We can administer any medication as instructed for a nominal daily fee. Cat condos are present in a separate boarding area, to keep cats isolated from dogs. The condos also provide separate sleeping and feeding areas. All pets admitted for boarding must be flea and tick free, as well as current on required vaccinations. The required vaccinations are:

Dogs: Rabies, Distemper/Parvovirus/Leptospirosis 4, Bordetella

Cats: Rabies and Feline Distemper

Fairview Hospital for Animals provides many surgical procedures, including but not limited too, ovariohysterectomy (spay) , castration (neuter) , declaw, lumpectomy, Anterior Cruciate Ligament repair and spleenectomy. Dr. Robert Groesch has been making small animal surgery since 1982 and has experience in numerous small animal surgical procedures. Dr. Groesch has also received education at Ohio State University in abdominal ultrasound and has been able to use these skills in our hospital. We provide on site radiology services. Our certified veterinary technician has been performing dentals at our hospital since 1994. The teeth are evaluated prior to cleaning, then scaled with an ultrasonic scaler and polished. Any teeth with periodontal disease at the gumline will be evaluated and extracted by Dr. Groesch if needed.

Customer Testimonials

Just last week our 10 month old lab, Gunner became critically ill right before we left to go to Missouri for our daughter's wedding. While we were gone he required exploratory surgery. Dr Bob kept us informed daily on his status either by phone or text. He is still recuperating but getting better. Couldn't have had a better experience during such an emotional time!

Drs. and staff take very good care of my dog, Zack. Staff is always friendly and helpful and Drs. Groesch and Stevens are very thorough. They always explain everything in detail. The animal hospital is so nice and convenient.

Feeling thankful to Dr. Groesch for Winnie's successful dental surgery yesterday. We appreciate the love and care he and Dr. Stevens have always given our sweet Winnie. Special thanks for checking on her late last night and calling to reassure us she was doing well.
