Ebenezer Animal Hospital, P.A. Dr. Watson H. Matthews (1925-1986) established Ebenezer Animal Clinic in 1946 after graduating from Auburn University's College of Veterinary Medicine. He moved back to the township of Ebenezer and began his practice from his family's home (actually in his back yard chicken house). At that time, his patients were mainly horses, cattle, and hogs on the farm with an occasional dog coming to his clinic for a vaccine. In 1948, he built the brick Ebenezer Animal Clinic building. That building stood as a Rock Hill landmark on the corner of Ebenezer Road and Herlong Avenue for the next 52 years.

In 1968, Dr. Matthews stopped going on farm calls because of an wound. He started to emphasize companion animals, although he would see any farm animals delivered to the clinic. Appointments were not required . In 1976, he hired his first associate, the late Dr. Billy Lazenby. After a few years, Dr. Lazenby built his own facility in Fort Lawn and moved there to start his own practice. The next associate was Dr. Roger Ross, hired in 1984. The following year, Dr. Ross moved on.

Dr. Lorin D. Lawrence was practicing in Lake Wylie at Bethel Animal Clinic in 1985 when he was hired by Dr. Matthews. An agreement was established that Dr. Lawrence was to work until 1990 and then purchase the hospital , allowing Dr. Matthews to retire. The next year on August 25, 1986, tragedy struck. Dr. Matthews suffered a massive heart attack and passed away the next day. Rock Hill lost one of its finest citizens that day.

The "walk-in" style of practice continued. Dr. Lawrence hired a retired veterinarian, Dr. John Risser, to work on Wednesdays, thereby preventing insanity! In 1990, the first of two remodeling projects was completed. The surgery room, previously used as a second exam room, was relocated into a much larger room. This greatly enhanced the surgical quality and productivity, because a second table and new equipment were brought in.

That year, Dr. Lawrence hired his first full time associate, Dr. Virginia Brown. She brought exotic animal expertise and expanded that end of the business. In 1992, Ebenezer Animal Clinic joined the ranks of most other animal clinics, by remodeling to create a reception desk. Dr. Brown assisted grow the practice until departing in 1994 to work near her hometown. The next associate was Dr. Ellen Buechler, a native of Louisville, Kentucky. Dr. R. Kyle Faust joined the practice in 1995 as the third associate, hired to expand the hours of service into the evenings two nights per week as well as help with the ever increasing caseload.

BOARDING review: VERY disappointing. All I know is that I got ONE update during their 4 day stay after 24 hours that said they peed and pooped. Bodily functions are expected but OK then I requested a picture and never heard back the rest of their stay. When we picked them up they were visibly stressed trying to exit the building which I expected them to be a little overwhelmed but the second we hit the parking lot they urinated for over a minute straight, they couldn't wait another second and it was clear they hadn't been taken care of for a long time, I'm concerned it was 24 hours, they have had to hold their urine for 16 hours before and even then they weren't in such distress to go so bad and for so long.

When I asked the receptionist what happened she responded that they are taken out several times a day (it's clear this isn't true) but contradicted herself by saying they are left to urinate on a grate in their kennels, and asked me if they are trained to pee on the grass, I don't know what person TRAINS their dogs to pee inside. after urinating in the parking lot they ran to the grass to defecate 3 times.

They were in such distress when they got home, urinated again and shed so much, and were desperate for a drink of water. Please don't waste your money here! It's sad and scary to think of what they went through there. There are cheaper options with MUCH better care. It's clear they are just in it for the money and not love for animals.

Dr Bleu was very sweet with my over active Doberman and explained everything to me. Thomas came out my.car and got my dog out for me which I wouldn't have been able to do by myself. Ashley helped me get him to the car.thanks to both of them for being there.found the best office hands down.

We've boarded our dogs and cats with Ebenezer several times and we will not be back. Each time we have been disappointed that our very specific, written instructions for feeding and medications have not been followed. This last visit, 20% of the food we left for our two dogs, in carefully measured, individually packed portions, were returned to us.

When we asked the kennel personnel about this, we were given two different explanations by the employees who returned the food to us and by the practice manager. The practice manager was not helpful at all. She had incomplete records and was, admittedly, guessing at what may have happened. She insisted that some dogs don't eat well when boarded, but we've been boarding our dogs for many years and have not had this issue anywhere else.

Rather than accept any responsibility or acknowledge that there may be an issue with her staff, she became defensive and delivered nothing but excuses because she was "just finding out about this now." We followed up later in the day, giving her time to investigate, and she provided no new information and a rather insincere apology. Do not board your pets here. There is a systemic lack of accountability and no attention to detail.

The doctors and staff at EAH always take such good care of our animals. We trust them with all 9 of our furry and scaly pets. They are just as caring and meticulous with our dogs and cats as they are with our snakes, lizards, and frogs.

I waited some time before leaving this review to ensure I wasn't all in my feelings. Nevertheless, I'm still disappointed. I feel as those EAH failed me! When I first got my dog in 2011, I took her to EAH to get all of her shots, meds, spayed, etc. Throughout the years she's received her annual wellness exams, meds, grooming, and treatments for various things.

In late December of 2021, she became ill over in the night. Instead of taking her to the emergency animal hospital in Charlotte, I decided I'd wait until my Vet opened bc I was more comfortable with them treating her. Well to my surprise (when I called time they opened), I was told they couldn't see my dog because they were closing at noon and the two emergency spots were already filled for the day. (How and you just opened?) If I'd known this I just would've taken her to Charlotte over in the night.

She ended up with serious concerns and very ill. When I called EAH from the emergency hospital to consult them, I felt that they were UNCONCERNED and rushed me off the phone! They only told me what they couldn't do and didn't provide any comfort. For over 10 years, I'd gone to them (or given them my money rather) and when I felt I needed them the most, I was let down. so much so I switched over to Newport Veterinary Hospital (they were ABSOLUTELY GREAT btw).

Two months later, my dog passed away. I called them to have me removed from receiving emails and when I informed them that my dog had passed the woman on the phone didn't even offer her condolences - she said, "ok, we'll remove it." WOW! I just felt like they lacked compassion and concern especially when I needed it the most. My new vet made follow up calls just to check in and when I told them she passed, they mailed a card. I'd only been with them less than two months and they showed more compassion than EAH did in 10 years.

The staff is amazing, very helpful, knowledgeable and always caring. Every appointment I have had for my dog and my rabbit has been on time and they always take time to address all my questions and concerns.

I should have come here first. I bought my dog to Catawba animal clinic because he was showing symptoms of an intestinal issue. They turned me away because they didn't want to add his information into their system. So I brought him to Newport where he had been before. They couldn't find the time to care either. So I came to Ebenezer and they got us in within the hour. Fantastic people. Fantastic service! Thank you for caring Ebenezer

Do not come here. $100 for a work in apt for my lizard and a 3 hour wait ridiculous, the lady on the phone was so rude and hung up on me after I told her I cannot do that he has been suffering from a RI for 3 months and they have him to wrong medication! Go to long animal hospital for your exotics!

We called on a Saturday morning with our bunny in GI stasis. They told us they didn't have an exotic vet on staff that day, but helpfully provided several options. About ten minutes later, they called back and said their exotic vet was in after all. We drove from Columbia SC, and they squeezed us in. They took amazing care of our bunny and sent us on our way with plenty of meds, special food, and treats to help. This will be our first call for the bunny in the future. We absolutely don't mind the drive for this level of care!

Incredible people here.. Always impressed with the attention they give to our pets and listen to us about our concerns and questions. Extremely friendly and professional, they are very passionate about what they do. If you love your furry family members this is the right place to go Ebenezer animal hospital.

Money. That's this vets mission. Money. Tell customer tests are needed for meds to be given. Meds approved before without tests. Now tests. Then, oh no problems tests are clear. Then, opps, can't give meds until after yearly physical. Yep, more money. Mo money please. Mo money. Mo money. Mo money. Save yourself and probably your pet. Drop this place like the mo money place it is. Spare yourself the grief. Zero rating if there was one.

Wonderful Vet! I've been coming to this vet practice for the past 14 years. They've seen our dog all the way from puppy to a senior. They have always responded with care and concern. The doctors and employees could not be better. The techs are absolutely amazing. I feel like they always go above and beyond to make sure our pets are well provided for and all our questions are answered. Another bonus is that they are open in the evenings which as a working person, is extremely important to me.

I love the staff at the clinic as they take care of my 4 legged fur babies. From grooming to end of life care, they have been supportive, helpful, and caring.

0 stars is not an option so I guess 1 will have to do. I will NEVER be taking my pets back to this "establishment". I called a week in advance to check pricing and availability for a day boarding for my dog Levi, and I was informed it would be a $13 visit for the day. I had chosen to go with this place as I had boarded him here once before and I would be coming up for a weekend visit from out of state so I wanted all my ducks in a row.

I proceeded with my plans and upon my arrival I was informed my dog could not be boarded due to a yearly rabies vaccine and fecal exam. I am well aware that this is a state requirement to board as I was too when the woman on the phone argued with me that this was not an optional thing but do not understand for the life of me why this was never mentioned when I called ahead to make these arrangements.

The staff at Ebenezer seemed unbothered by their misgivings and I had not prepared for this financially when I planned out my trip so I was forced to cancel my day plans and I am very very unhappy with the unprofessional and irresponsibility of the staff at Ebenezer Animal Hospital. I was a 5 year returning customer for them until. Shame on all of you.

I used EAH for over 23 years and they have cared for 5 of my dogs during that time. I don't have any real complaint about the vet care, but in recent years, I have noticed a marked increase in prices and a somewhat disinterested staff especially at the front desk. They have begun to act like the cashiers at Walmart and you will be processed when it is convenient for them.

It appears that making money is the prime objective and customer satisfaction and pet wellness is not high on the list of objectives. I fully realize that prices will go up over time, but to do what they often suggest is very costly especially if you have two pets. It makes one think before doing what might be overall the best for your pet. By the way, I do most of my food purchases at Publix and pay their higher prices because of their friendly staff - EAH needs to think about that. I am in the process of switching to a new clinic, but it is sad to see how things can change over time and not for the better.

I have been going here for about 11 years and have had no issues. Over the weekend my dog developed a limp. I called on Monday and she said the appointments were full but, I could come in and wait until they could fit me in. The wait was only about 30 minutes and they were very accommodating and wonderful.

The other reviews were paid for by the clinic. This is the truth about Ebenezer Animal Hospital; they are expensive and they charge you for duplicate tests because they don't check the records. Two of my dogs have been charged for allegedly receiving influenza vaccines 3 times each this year. This clinic was honest when Dr. Loren and Michael were there.

Some of technicians are dishonest and also very racist as I have heard negative comments about customers and staff even made my husband wait in he lobby for my puppy's booster and charged him an extra $20 late fee. There is nothing exceptional about the service. I have taken my dogs here for 8 years and began with my new puppy but I realized this is a sham.

The second booster shot costs around 22.00 At any other vet at Ebenezer my total was $112.00. I was belittled on the telephone and my husband was called a liar. I will never return. Some may ask why go there for so lomg of the service sucks. One of my dogs likes the groomer Sheila. However, each time he is groomed Ebenezer charges me for another Bordetella vaccine.

I had a decent experience with Dr. Jay but my last visit was with Dr. Scarlett at least her name is on the document. What really shocks me is that she let her technician belittle a customer of nearly a decade instead of exhibiting managerial skills. He

I absolutely love this clinic. They genuinely care about our animals. We always get exceptional care from the amazing staff and our dogs just love seeing everyone there. My parents never used another vet when they lived here and I will never use another one. I highly recommend the outstanding folks at EAH.

This clinic is great. Dr Cline and Tyler were very helpful during a really difficult problem with our 16 year old cat. I really like that they clearly explain options for treatment and especially costs upfront. Sympathetic, helpful and very positive staff. Highly recommend.

I just took my cat for her first and last visit at Ebenezer Animal Hospital. First of all, let me say that I'm sure the person that helped me is not representative of everyone that works at Ebenezer. My cat is feral, and is only accustomed to being with me. Truthfully, most cats need a gentle and caring person in the exam room. The tech that saw me was very brusque and rude.

She did not introduce herself. When I mentioned that my cat needed to have her blood taken in the exam room because of her fearfulness, the tech replied, "We'll see." She informed me that "It is very difficult to get blood work from a cat." As I am a certified veterinary assistant, I am aware of all of this. I sensed her disregard for my concerns.

When I mentioned that my cat needed her teeth cleaned, the tech said, "What makes you think she needs her teeth cleaned?" After roughly examining my cat to find her microchip, she informed me that there was no microchip, and that I should contact the person that put the supposed chip in and "get my money back." The main reason I am writing this review is that the person that "helped" me did not even seem to like cats.

She did not try to calm my cat or even use her name. If you have a pet with any special needs, please be careful where you take your pet for veterinary care. At the end of the day, you must feel good about the care your pet receives. An animal hospital may have impressive certifications, but this does not replace the need for compassion and gentleness when caring for animals.

Dr. Cline takes such good care of our standard poodles, Zoey and Chloe. She also was very gracious as we had to put down our beloved Morkie last fall. Our vet tech even made foot imprints in clay dried it and mailed it to us as a keepsake--this on her own time and dime. They offer a monthly play that is affordable and includes all shots, visits, heartworm prevention, dentals, etc. so you don't get hit with a huge vet bill all at once. Offer extended hours. Never had a poor experience here.

This is the boarding clinic I left my Rottweiler at while I went to my grandfather's funeral in N.Y. for one week. When I came home, I picked up my dog and she walked out woozy as if she was drugged and she didn't even recognize me. As she looked down, I noticed a clump of hair sticking out of her head. I touched the surface of her head, I felt a few bumps witch turned out to be scabs and scrapes.

As I repeatedly asked the technician what happened, she said, "Those are scrapes.". As this has little to do with my question she took her back to see the doctor and she then told me she could take me back to an exam room where the doctor would consult with me about my dog's injuries. Again, I had the same conversation about scabs and scars and then, the doctor got snotty with me and acted as though I was stupid and started to tell me how things get cut and scratched as I asked how this happened.

He then said he could shave the area (witch at the time I thought was small) and take a closer look at the bumpy area. I then said yes and he took her behind into the clinic area where they shaved her almost bald. I then heard the same speech of how it was a scrape. This "scab" was not there when I dropped her off as he tried to tell me I didn't know my own dog.

As he then tried to charge me for her boarding, I said, " I want to speak to a manager.". Then he told me that she wasn't available, so I said that I would not pay for the visit until I spoke to the manager. I would never send anyone to this clinic or boarding program. P.S. This gets 0 stars!

Had an emergency this morning with my cat while she was having her kittens. Did not know what to do so I rushed her to Newport Veterinary Hospital. They turned me away saying that they were not equipped to handle her (WTF?). Recommended that I go to an emergency clinic in Charlotte, NC (over 30 miles away). Instead I rused to Ebenezer Animal Hospital.

They staff was kind and understanding and took my cat back almost immediately. They got the situation under control quickly. Their charge was more than reasonable. Mother and kittens ae now home and all are doing well. I highly recommend this Veterinary Clinic.

I have been bringing my dogs here for 7 years and I love it. The staff and doctors our extremely skilled. I have referred my brother and now he brings his cat and chameleon here. Its not the cheapest vet. But well worth the extra money for better quality doctors. I got my dog little bear teeth cleaned 2 months ago and I was a nervous wreck the whole time he was asleep. But the doctor kept me inform the entire time even called right before and after the surgery to inform me of his status. The only vet I would recommend.

Just left--after they squeezed us into a 100% booked day on New Year's Eve after my dog had a crazy allergic reaction and scarily swollen eye. We are from out of town, and we didn't know what to do. Everyone was so nice and they made it happen. Thank you!

They are very professional & you can tell they really enjoy working with animals. My dogs are standoff-ish but when they get there their tails start wagging & want to be rubbed. Ben is awesome & patient with my fur babies. Definitely will refer others to them

I have taken my dog (Joey) to Ebenezer for the last 7 years and have always been very satisfied with the level of service and care. I appreciate the personal attention given by the staff and doctors and I feel that they put my dog's best interest first. Joey has had to have several surgeries and several procedures in his older age and honestly I wouldn't want anyone else taking care of him!

In addition to the great service, the cost is nearly half of what you would pay in Charlotte and other nearby locations - so if you have pets, I strongly recommend you take them here!
Kelly Ernst
All the veterinarians here are very well informed and current on treatment options for your pet. I know that isn't true at all veterinarian centers. The staff is professional and efficient. I feel like this is part of our family.

Everyone at Ebenezer Animal Hospital is always very friendly when I come in and they are able to get me scheduled for an appointment quickly.

Thank you so much!! We moved to SC on Monday & our Cooper hurt his foot this morning you guys were able to get us in same day & get him taken care of. Everyone was so kind thank you again! We looking forward to using all the services you offer there.

Found out our puppy had worms late last night, only animal hospital opened and even with me calling close to their closing time, they were super nice and very respectful. Got our puppy looked out today by Thomas who was honestly the best person we’ve ever encountered with our pets. He explained everything clearly and even repeated to us everything when we asked the same question over.

He was very professional and friendly with our puppy. We really enjoyed this animal hospital and were definitely coming back for our puppy’s shots!! The staff was awesome and we look forward to seeing them again for puppy’s next appointment! Thank You to all the staff at Ebenezer Animal Hospital!

Extremely awesome team! My little Hercules had parvo and I literally went straight from the emergency hospital to them. At the hospital I was told to put him to sleep. As soon as I got to Ebenezer they went straight to taking care of my Hercules. He was hospitalized for a week and got extremely skinny but they never gave up on him and now my Hercules is strong and active again!

You guys made us extremely happy and we that you a million times for your patience. I called multiple times a day and stopped by every day. I have absolutely nothing negative to say. You saved my son's dog and I will be forever thankful for your help. In this place you can tell there is a lot of love and passion for the animals. Never go to that emergency vet on South Tryon.

They are horrible! Try to wait a little and take your pet to Ebenezer. They will treat your pets like family! I love them! Thanks a lot to everyone that worked with Hercules! We will stop by to visit soon!
Megan Fletcher
Love the friendly staff at Ebenezer and Dr. Cline. I know that my pups are always getting a thorough exam and they only want the best for them. Clean nice facility and I know they aren't ripping me off like petsmart.

I have been here before in the past- but I will now ONLY come here! I absolutely appreciate everyone that works to make the entire visit, from check in to check out, stress free. The doctors are thorough and welcome any questions you throw at them. The care that I got here today for my cat makes me feel so good, because we all want the best for them. Thank you so much for all you do!
Matthew
The staff at Ebenezer Animal Hospital is great! From the doctors down, everyone that I've had the privilege of meeting has been so compassionate and caring. I recently boarded my dog Oscar, and requested a playtime, and you know what they did??? They sent me a picture of my little buddy during his playtime and my dog looked very happy!! Its a great peace of mind knowing my dog is well taken care of when I am away on business. They also see my African Grey parrot which most vets around here will not. Outstanding place. I strongly encourage anyone looking for a great new vet to try Ebenezer first.
