We are proud to say that East Petaluma Animal Hospital (EPAH) is an American Animal Hospital Association certified hospital (AAHA). East Petaluma Animal Hospital, EPAH, was started in 1992 in the Arroyo Shopping Center in southeast Petaluma. From its inception, dogs, cats, and exotic pets have had a place to go for excellent medical care.
Dr. Rupiper has been practicing veterinary medicine since 1991. Residing in the wine country and owning this hospital had been a goal for many years. Dr. Rupiper graduated from UC-Davis after completing four externships in avian medicine at various specialty institutions throughout California. He is an avian specialist, and board certified in avian practice from 2000-2013.
Brought my little love (my pet rat Simon) here today to see Dr. Rupiper. I have had a regular vet for a few years now and as of recently I have began to question whether they have money or my pets best interest in mind. Poor Simon got an injury on his belly about a month and a half ago. After four visits to my regular vet they wound up telling me that he had a tumor, possibly cancerous, and it would need to be removed. Of course I want to do what's best for my beloved pet, but unfortunately they quoted me $700 dollars!

Thank you for taking excellent care of our guinea pig. It was such a relief to drop him off and know he was in good hands while we attended a high school graduation. He's comfortable now and doing okay!

Seriously the best vets office I have ever been to. I even showed up at the wrong time (Like the complete wrong time.showed up at 9:30 am and my appointment was at 3:30 pm) and they fit me in anyways. Not only that but they didn't rush. Dr. Rupiper sat and chatted with us for at least 10-15 minutes before we even got down to business. I just love this practice. The doctors and the staff are so lovely. All vets offices should be like this. I will never take my birds or other pets anywhere else.

The receptionist squeezed me in to an exceptionally busy schedule to accommodate an urgent issue with my bird. Dr. Rupiper is extremely knowledgeable on avian care. He explained the issue my bird was having and the procedure needed and possible outcomes both good and bad. Dr. Rupiper is professional, courteous and friendly as are his staff. I highly recommend this Vet service. I drove from San Francisco to Petaluma and would not hesitate to do it again for the great service provided.

I honestly had bad experiences the only two times I brought my dog here. Extremely crowded front lobby making it nearly impossible to remain Covid safe and also prevent any aggressive dogs/ other animals from mingling. Yes I had someone else's parrot fly onto me while signing my receipt here. The main vet guy, Italian or something, straight up only hears his own thoughts.

He and the tech assisting my dog refused to listen to my concerns even though I kept vocalizing my dogs inability to remain stable with his back leg. I felt disregarded and rushed to get out both times coming here. I visited a new vet yesterday and it was a DREAM. They listened to all my concerns, were able to diagnose my dog, and offered lots of solutions to help stabilize his leg when walking. Made me realize just how horrible and traumatic my other experiences at East Petaluma vet really were. I felt validated enough to post, hoping this helps another emotional dog owner in the future.

Caring, professional and personable. We just got a new puppy that wasn't in great shape and they were able to get us in on really short notice! Can't wait to come back.

Dr. Rupiper and Dr. Graff are amazing they saved are dog's life. She was diagnosed incorrectly at the emergency facility with kennel cough. They diagnosed her Mega Esophagus and treated her for Pneumonia. Dr. Rupiper took the time to show us x-rays and explain everything he wanted to do to treat her severe respiratory condition. All of this during covid. When many vets wouldn't even let you in there office. We can't thank them and there wonderful staff enough. Honey is alive today because of them.

Dr. Rupiper gets my deepest thanks. From teaching me the home-care steps after the appt. to save my chicken after a dog attack/gangrene infection, to the interventions he's done with my cats, I truly appreciate his ability to quickly diagnose and explain fully what is happening. He also gives tiers of care based on what you can afford at the time. I appreciate this tremendously.

I can count on them to make Charlie's experience a positive one. Even after crying through a nail clipping she still wants to come back. Must be the gentle atmosphere and treats!

My vet retired and my dog was having, What I thought to be, breathing issues. I called two Vets that both said they couldn't get me in for at least seven days. East Petaluma veterinary got me in in a day and a half not only that they allowed me to bring my dog from the car in when I realized I didn't have her up-to-date on vaccinations. They were very upfront about the price, there was no pressure, there was no sales pitch, and everyone was very friendly and professional. I consider myself lucky to have found them and a new vet to keep all my critters healthy!

I don't know who is running the show here but I'd caution anyone looking to use this establishment. I called in a medication for my dog earlier this week and they failed to fill it before the office unexpectedly closed for a long weekend. Their message directs their patients to other vets in the area which means a separate visit, blood work, and high cost to get my dog the medication he routinely takes. Further, all the other vets that I was directed to call are booked.

This is not an outlier either. I typically need to work with the pharmacy to ensure that the vet calls in the medication each time it needs to be renewed. I'm done with East Petaluma Animal Hospital and will find a vet that does their job so my poor dog doesn't have to suffer from their lack of completing basic job responsibilities. Go elsewhere.

We had only been going here for about a year since we adopted our puppy. We were given heartworm medication and then told it was good until the next appointment, but an appointment was never made. Then we were told we would need a blood test ($$$) and then they would give the heartworm medication. When I called to make an appointment the lady I spoke to continuously interrupted me, and when I tried to explain that she was interrupting me she interrupted me to tell me she was not interrupting me.

I then explained that we were using a flea and tick medication we found online (The exact same one that they tried to sell us for three times the amount) to which she told me "well that's useless and you're wasting your money". I did not care for her rudeness or a condescending tone, so needless to say I'll be looking for a new veterinarian hospital!

I would not give any stars if I could. Some years ago I had a terrible experience at East Petaluma veterinary Hospital, regarding a veterinary technician's irresponsible and deadly treatment, and his misdiagnosis of my parrot's medical problem. While Dr. Rupiper was out of the office for the day, having fun, his veterinary technician (or office staff?), (who was arrogant and hyper), was killing my parrot by aspirating and puncturing my parrot's crop while tube feeding her. Dr. Rupiper not only misdiagnosed my parrot's medical condition, he left my ill parrot in the care of an inept and careless employee, who sent my parrot home unstable, and dying.

My beloved bird died shortly after taking her home. Recently, I accidentally stumbled across their website, while looking for another veterinary clinic. After seeing the East Petaluma Veterinary Hospital website, it's apparent that Dr. Rupiper does not believe it's important to showcase his staff or provide information regarding their credentials. Based on my tragic experience, I can see why.

Apparently Dr. Rupiper doesn't know that it takes more than one person to run a veterinary clinic and provide appropriate and safe treatment for animal patients, since his website provides nothing about anyone else other than him, his bio, and large photos of himself. Although years have passed, I still mourn the unnecessary death of my beloved parrot.

I would never refer anyone to this veterinary hospital. However, if you decide to use Dr. Rupiper's services, please use discretion, and research his diagnosis and treatment plan, and be sure to find out who will be treating your parrot and what kind of credentials they have.

This is where we take our birds. The veterinarian here that specializes in birds is one of the best I have ever been to and I have had pet birds for over 30 years. He is kind, knowledgable he treats my pets as well as my family with respect. He is an all around 5 star veterinarian and I have never known better.

They spent very little time with me or my bird, were very unclear about the medication they gave me for my bird, and were rather short with me when I had questions. They mislabeled the medications, and my bird ended up dying because of it. Definitely not going back there :

Dr. Rupiper and the all staff are always so wonderful and accommodating. My Maltese dogs Phoenix and Pebbles rely on the knowledge and expertise of Dr. Rupiper. My wife and I always have lots of questions and Dr. Rupiper is always so nice to take his time to explain everything to us. We love EPAH! Thank you for all you do, especially through this pandemic and always making the time to take care of our fur babies! You guys rock! Allen & Debbie K.

I took my dog to get his nails clipped here and the next day when I took him out for a walk he started limping and couldn't walk. I called the hospital that day and they said to bring Weezy bye to check him out. They were very nice, respectful, and professional the whole time. At the end of the visit, the front secretary was just doing her job and began to charge me.

That's when the doctor came out and told her our visit was covered, but the prescription had to be paid for. The prescription wasn't that much thankfully. What a great gesture given back to a neighbor that's loved this town since 1997. They said to check back in a week but by then he was fine. I found the experience to be a good reason to switch clinics and make Weezy a new client. Thanks.

Thank you Dr. Rupiper for giving my little beanie a lovely visit. You have provided me such great information about my conure bird that I didn't know. Also thank you for sharing your experience with conure birds as well. Thank you for cutting her nails and checking on her. I'm so freaking happy I found you especially for my beanie. She came home happy and relax. Can't wait to see you soon! Beanie says thank you! Also thank you for your staff for being very helpful and friendly when I came in. Thank you!

EPAH is amazing just moved to Petaluma and didn't have a local vet. My 17yr old little dog was attacked and needed some serious medical help. They were able to see her right away and did an amazing job.

Dr. Ruipiper was our vet for our Golden Retriever for 12 years. When it came down to the time to put her down, him and his staff were more than accommodating during the difficult time. We recently got a new puppy, and are using him again! He's trustworthy, has great pricing and gets the job done. He also gave us a discount on testing when our new dog was having skin allergies. Love this place!

Unfortunately they have become very unorganized during these times and I will be switching to a new vet, had two dogs that both had multiple things get messed up, maybe if they didn't walk around the clinic talking shit which has happened in my last two visits they would be more organized, "I hate people" was a quote from one of the vet techs

My companion of 18 years died here. They disposed of him like he was trash. These people are unbelievably cruel. They kept his backpack Dr. Rupiper has no people skills and he traumatized me badly PLEASE reconsider patronizing these people.

I recently moved to the Marin area. I liked my avian vet in Oakland, but they seem to be gone or have changed locations. Petaluma is closer for me, so I called EPAH, and I am so happy with them. The staff is super friendly on the phone. I brought in my bird and Dr. Rupiper did a very thorough consult and seemed to really enjoy interacting with my bird (named Piper.) In summary, EPAH is the place to bring your bird for care.

Dr. Rupiper saved our chicken's life. Our chicken is a bantam who was egg bound and he was able to safely puncture the egg and remove it. We couldn't be happier with him and his staff. He is clearly an expert with poultry and having a resource like him in the Bay Area is a huge relief for us. Thank you!

Dr. Rupiper is a fantastic doctor! We brought my friends senior dog in with tears in our eyes and scared hearts. He was thorough and, gentle with us. methodically he worked through his assessment of the old gal. His manner was so kind it really helped us deal better. Looks like the OG may not be ready to go yet. Tomorrow's test results will determine., He's very smart, intuitive and clearly loves animals and people.

Interesting reviews. Some said Dr. Rupiper seems like he is money hungry. The first time I took my conure in he said we could do tests but they are expensive. He told me that he felt it is a Vitamin A deficiency and treated her. Antibiotics and a vitamin A shot. I read up on the disease and I understand why she got it. I have seen Dr. Rupiper 3 times with her and he has been great.

He is efficient and, yes, quick but has taken care of her needs. I just emailed him with a question. If I call the office with a question the girls will ask the Dr. and then call me with the answer. I have no complaints so far and I am grateful to have him to take care of my girl. She has become my heart and EPAH is part of her support group. Thank you.

Please note Getting animals teeth pulled is now 5-6 times what it was few years ago The cost is just robbery! So sad when the care for animals is to be a passion Now it's beyond out of control charging so much for teeth removal

Our cats may not be fans of going to the Vet, but we love how Dr. Rupiper loves our cats. The whole team is always very kind and professional. We've been coming here for about 7 years now and we wouldn't go anywhere else! We Highly recommend bringing your pets to EPAH! They're the best!

My 9-month old Husky has been going there since I got him, and my Lab for 14 years before that. Dr. Rupiper is amazing, so sweet and truly takes the time to get to know you and your pet. Last week Denali had a seizure out of nowhere and of course I was a mess, but the staff let me come in right away without an appointment and made it so easy. Dr. Rupiper gave me a call the next day with a very detailed rundown of his diagnosis. They really know how to keep a situation under control and calm!
