Diehl Karen R Low Stress Many dogs and cats experience stress during their trip to the vet. Not here. We believe that gold-standard care starts with reducing stress levels. Besides being difficult for a pet owner to see, stress alters a pet's body temperature, blood pressure, and heart rate. These measurements are critical to assessing a pet's overall health, meaning stress can make it difficult to know whether a real health issue is present or not. As a dog or cat ages, they face new health risks and challenges, and require new kinds of care.

We partner with you to provide high quality medical care in a welcoming, low-stress environment. From helping you choose the best breed for your lifestyle, to proactively caring for your pet through all life stages, to finding comfort with hospice care and a peaceful end of life, we enhance your relationship with your pet.
Just like you, we want your pet to live the longest, healthiest life possible. That starts with the basics: quality food, enough exercise, good grooming, prevention and yes, regular check-ups and exams. Because annual exams are your pet's first line of defense.
Early detection is key when it comes to treating your pet, and Northwest Animal Hospital offers complete in-house diagnostics including cutting-edge equipment and an on-site laboratory. This saves time, money, and most importantly, you don't have to wait overnight for results - meaning your pet gets a diagnosis and needed treatment sooner.
Imagine if you never brushed your teeth or had them cleaned. Pretty frightening, right? As you can imagine, things would eventually start to go very, very bad inside your mouth: teeth would rot and decay, gums would become inflamed and infected. Bacteria from those rotting teeth would eventually travel into your bloodstream and could cause other serious health problems.

If I could leave 0, I would. I rescued an old dog that was a patient of theirs for many years, the former owner put hundreds and hundreds of dollars into this practice, they even did home visits for her for years. When it came down to having her put down they wanted me to pay for a visit fee, an exam fee since it's been over a year since they had not seen her, and charge full price for the euthanasia at the time of service.

I could not believe it. I called Knapp and they said they would do it for $65 and even bill me for it later since payment is something they do not push during a difficult time for pet owners. When you take on a patient, you should be there for them, with great empathy, instead of only caring to fill your pockets. All my other pet's have gone to Knapp as I kept Jenny here since she was so invested into this Vet. I should have changed her to Knapp to began with as they always go above a beyond for the animals, not their pocket's.

The Northwest Animal Hospital is a kind and caring place for pets and their owners. My cat Tiffany feels comfortable there in the cat friendly exam room. The staff are lovely and genuinely care about the animals. I would recommend this animal vet practice to anyone! Angie Chesser

Dr. Hollenbach and her team are absolutely amazing. They handle all of our pets with such care, patience, and a gentle touch. They are all always so helpful and attentive to my questions, and I can tell they genuinely care about my pets' health and care. Highly recommend this practice!

Recently moved + had to establish a vet. Staff is friendly, knowledgeable, + VERY caring. Texting for appointments is a plus! Response times are quick, follow ups are spot on, + they truly care and want the best for you and your pet without feeling forced to do anything. Dr. Hollenbach is very straight to the point + gives you ALL details of what to expect + how to resolve any issues you have with your little one. Highly recommend NWAH. Small n quaint building, mighty crew!

The staff is great but once we got established it seemed like they just saw us as a money tree. The first visit was an emergency and they were able to see us quickly, didn't charge us an arm and a leg and were so great. The subsequent visits it just got more and more expensive. At one point we came back for the second round of a vaccine. We'd already paid over $300 for the first round of shots and checkup.

I expected to bring my dog in for the second shot and leave. Nope. They told me they can't do the second shot without another checkup and it'd be close to $100 bucks. And then tried to sell me on all these other optional services. The vets and staff here are great but be warned you're gonna end up paying way more here than other vets in the area.

The staff is very nice. They are very expensive. I was charged 2.52 per tablet for medication that is available on Chewy.com for.06 per tablet. They did not even mention the possibility of writing a prescription. When I checked the prices online immediately after the visit, I called and expressed to them that I was unhappy with the price of the pills.

Just before being curtly dismissed with a "have a nice day, " I was told that medication can't be returned after it leaves the building and that they would be happy to write a prescription for any future meds. Really? Couldn't that have been done an hour earlier? The entire bill was very expensive, and with the more than 4000% markup on the meds, It's very difficult to trust the rest of the charges. I canceled my next appointment.

We had to take our 11 yo girl cat in for breathing issues. They have been wonderful with her, giving us good information and treatment options. Our cat is doing much better and everyone has been great to work with.

Do not take your animal here. Our dog could not walk due to a sudden bad left leg. He couldnt put any weight on it. We tried to get in to our vet but they told us to bring him northwest animal hospital. I walked in and explained to the male receptionist who told me someone would be out with a cart to carry the dog in. Thats it. We waited for 50 something minutes with no one calling to inform us of anything.

I called twice for update when they would be out. I thought they forgot about us. I understand its a ER. Just inform me at some point how long I will be waiting. That would give me chance to go somewhere else if I felt it necessary. Anyway, when they did come out there was no cart. I am embrassed to say I let them basicly drag my dog with a blanket under his belly all the way to room.

About half way there I said "your choking him, I can hear it". Then they put the blanket under one front paw and belly and continued to drag him in. Not one person gave us any information. But there was ONE tech Dianne R. who treated us with respect and concern. Explained everything that was happening. Thank goodness for her or I would have lost it.

Total cost $679. For blood test and to be told our dog was fat and that is why he tore a ligament in his back leg. He needs surgery but no one would do anywhere because he was to fat. The total experience was very bad. We were disgusted for weeks. Sadly, since our dog had this diagnosis he has passed away. Its not this hospitals fault. But I finally have the drive to write our experience so no one else has to go through what we went through a northwest animal clinic. Charlene D.

If you want to go absolutely broke paying for vet bills & medications for your pet, then go here. They completely make people over pay. One medicine I got for my pet cost $80 for 8 capsules at Northwest Animal Hospital. I looked on Chewy, it costs $5 for a 34 capsule bottle. Insane how much they make you over pay not for just meds but for everything.

Took my 5 month-old lab/pit mix puppy to this vet for an examination and will not be returning! This was the worst vet experience I have ever had. My dog has visited other veterinary offices previously and was treated with great success. At Northwest Animal Hospital, the vet stated my puppy was anxious and going to BITE if she completed the exam simply because the puppy was a little shaky and looked at me "in a weird way"- whatever that means!

In my opinion, my dog was slightly nervous to be in a new environment with new people (after-all she is a baby!) but showed no signs of aggression whatsoever. The vet then sent the veterinary technician into the exam room with a bottle of anti-anxiety pills for my dog. She proceeded to state the vet did not feel comfortable treating my dog and would not allow us to come back to complete the exam on another date unless my dog took these pills before the next visit.

In my opinion, the vet put in minimal effort to treat my puppy and decided my black pit mix puppy was dangerous simply because of her appearance. If you are looking for a vet that will jump to medicating your puppy, this is the place! If you are looking for a caring and compassionate vet who truly cares about your pet's well-being, I would recommend not wasting your time or money on this place!

The vet is extremely unprofessional. Multiple times she failed to provide the services i requested as the reason for my visit. Every time the office tried to up charge me for additional services i didn't request. On my last visit she was supposed to take a blood sample and uralysis but my dog did not want to pee apparently. The vet said no sweat we will get the Urine during the follow up visit.

What she did not mention was that the combined blood sample and uralysis price was no longer the price and it was going to cost 46$ more to get the uralysis on my next visit. Furthermore my dog was inside for almost 45 min before this whole dispute even reached the vet and she called me due to covid protocols.

Money grab. Poor communication regarding total influenza shot costs. Manager was less than understanding when calling to "resolve" the issue. The curt "have a good day" might as well been a.

We first started coming here because they were down the street from where we lived. Even though we now live a good 30-40 minutes away, we are still very happy to come here. The doctors and staff are very friendly and knowledgeable. You can really tell that they're working here because they love animals. They are also very up front about the cost of the visit and won't do anything to your pet without first consulting you. One of our cats has had a whole host of problems recently and NWAH has been a huge help in getting him well again. I honestly cannot recommend them enough.

I have been a client of NWAH for 62 years. If that doesn't tell you something about the quality of staff and veterinarians who have served thousands of pets and their owners over the years, I don't know what will! From the original veterinarian who founded NWAH -- Dr. Robert Ewing -- through the current ownership, NWAH IS THE GOLD STANDARD for expertise, knowledge, compassion and ongoing care of each and every cat and dog that has the privilege of having NWAH as their primary care provider.

During normal times, the staff is always smiling and in-tune with any concerns you may have about your pet, and they will bend over backwards to accommodate any reasonable request. The pandemic changed so many parts of our daily routines. In order to care for your pet as safely as humanly possible, NWAH altered how it sees your pet: YOU stay in your car while a masked member of the staff runs out to welcome you and escorts your pet -- either cuddled up in their arms or playfully making their way back into the hospital with your pet on a leash -- into the continually sterilized environment awaiting them inside.

All staff and vets are temp-checked before the first pet is seen. Exam rooms (which are ALWAYS SPOTLESS during NORMAL times) are thoroughly sanitized between each exam by staff who strictly adhere to handwashing, mask and social distancing guidelines established by the CDC. FINALLY, the veterinarian actually seeing your pet will call you in your car to discuss the results of whatever brought you there in the first place!

Ask as many questions as you want and the bottom line is this: you and your four-legged family member will continue to receive the outstanding and compassionate care for which NWAH has been consistently know for many, many years. Reminders for vaccinations and appointments are standard procedure. Certain foods are stocked for a variety of gastrointestinal issues, as are preventative care meds and certain other medications.

They are members of an online pharmacy that schedules items like heartworm meds or specialized flea and tick collars that will meet the needs required by different living environments, such as city vs. rural. A limited number of toys and harnesses are also kept in stock for purchase. ( Don't expect stuffed toys or games, etc, but items that help your pet pass the time while you are away or promote good dental health and hygiene are available.

Group training at different levels is a staple at NWAH. During the challenges of the pandemic, however, classes may be currently suspended. Price-wise. NWAH is NOT the most expensive clinic in Columbus, OH, NOR is it the least expensive clinic. There is one benefit, however, that you can "take to the bank" about NWAH & the care your pet will receive in its care, and for me, that one benefit alone is priceless: it is the total peace of mind you gain from the knowledge that your pet is receiving the best care for domestic animals available on the planet. That has been the "hook" for me for 62 years (the last three of which I had to drive 45 minutes to get there!). Isn't YOUR pet worth this kind of care?

My dog can't communicate to humans where it hurts, so I was looking for a family vet that I could talk to and who listens when I try to explain my dog's behavior. Dr. Hollenbach listens intently and is a good diagnostician. She always explains what we are looking for in tests and I feel confident about her recommendations for treatment. When we get to the tough decisions about Remy's care and senior years, I feel like I can trust Dr. Hollenbach and her team.

Her team is always kind and full of praise for my dog, even though he is bouncing off the walls in excitement. Remy eats all sorts of things at the park, so I am grateful that they were able to sqeeze us in for a few same-day visits. The communication is excellent with scheduling and costs. I appreciate how easy it is to get his paperwork emailed to me. It makes my life easier with dealing with his insurance.

I love the staff here. Informative and compassionate, and so very nice. And my dog is always excited to go to the vet. Not so typical! Both vets are excellent that work there. I usually ask for the newer vet. I just really like that she listens so carefully, and is also understanding of how to keep expenses down. It's still expensive but so is every vet these days.

I noticed that the vet that has been there longer was quick to run a test without first telling me the cost. Every $20 adds up quickly. overall, I drive the extra distance to take my toy poodle there.

These people are money hungry. They automatically require a physical exam for any little thing you may need for your dog. I came in to get the influenza shot earlier this month. They required a physical exam beforehand to make sure my dog was healthy enough to receive it. I thought that was totally fine and reasonable seeing as how her last check up was about five months prior. However, I came in again to get my dog's booster shot only three weeks after the initial flu visit. THREE WEEKS.

They told me they needed to have another exam done to make sure she's still healthy. For reference, my dog is perfectly healthy and isn't even two years old. Her health isn't going to change overnight. I fought the exam because it's absolutely ridiculous to give a healthy dog two physicals in one month. Then they told me it would only be a partial exam at a lower cost. Again, for reference, an exam is $50.

The partial exam is $40. So in short, I'm still getting f'ed by these people. I called around other vets to see if they have this same ridiculous policy and they don't. The only reason Northwest Animal Hospital has this policy is because they're money hungry. I'm not made of money. I just want good care for my dog. The only reason I went to them is because it's close to my house. But f these people. Take your services elsewhere and you'll save yourself a lot of money. These people can go f themselves.

I had been seeing this vet for my elderly cat's health issues since moving to the area. The treatment seemed fine. But when my sweet, beloved cat took a turn for the worst, suffering horribly, this vet was "too busy" to see him. They truly could not have cared any less. My cat did die that day, and with no help from these cruel, uncaring people. Stay away.

My parents have taken our dogs here for years so I started taking mine. They explained every cost before doing anything, which I appreciated, and then worked with me on the cost and what was the most important. My dog is a big scaredy cat and they were so good with him! They gave him a star sticker which I thought was so cute!

Horrible! They are more interested in taking pictures of your animal for their FB page than they are in your pet's health. A nurse, or vet technicians as they call themselves, made notes about my reason for being there and approached to take temperature without even asking if my dog would be comfortable with it. It wasn't the first time I was taking my dog to a vet, and I knew he hated thermometers up his butt, so I had to stop her.

The senior vet student then walked in with another nurse for the check-up and simply grabbed my dog. They did not have treats that my dog would like so they had no idea how to keep my dog calm. I have a very submissive animal who only hates having his behind touched (because of thermometers, of course). They mishandles him so much that he had to be muzzled.

Even then, he submitted and sat down. But the vet student continued to use her long manicured nails to poke my dogs belly! Dr. Hird then walked in to mishandle my dog some more. They dragged my dog onto their examination table (which is shocking because my dog will happily climb those when given the command). It was so bad that I had to hold my dog to keep him from getting any more aggressive and then just tell the doctors to stop!

They then proceeded to prescribe me steroids and "calming medication" for him. If my dog were aggressive, he wouldn't have walked up to them to apologize for barking at them, once his muzzle was off. They did not care to ask me about any current medication my dog is on or any allergies he might have, until I enquired! WTF. They even charged me $30 for a smear that I was not consulted about.

Like "here you go! Take this massive bill we drew for making your dog uncomfortable and these tests and treatments you did not approve!" The doctors and staff are full of bullshit and have ZERO compassion for your animal. They not only will ignore your pet, but anything you have to say because they think you are stupid. Compare this experience to my experience at OSU, my dog did not even want to leave the doctors there because he got pampered so much. Every step was explained and the cost of treatment was discussed with me before taking further steps.

Best place to bring your dog or cat or even hamster or Guinea pig ever! I've worked her for going on four years now and when I have to move on to my nursing career I will miss this place very much! But best believe I will still and will always bring my pets here. :

My dogs LOVE coming here. Yes, they LOVE the vet. The staff is so friendly and gives them tons of attention (and treats), which makes them happy. They've helped us through some complicated medical issues, which makes ME happy. I used to live within walking distance of this place but even after moving and being closer to other vet offices I still come here.

My dogs have as much fun going to the vet as they do on a walk, so I really can't disappoint them and take them elsewhere! Appointments are usually pretty easy to get (especially if you don't mind which vet you see, which I don't). The only issue I have is that they don't have any evening hours. I don't get home from work until 6:30 on weeknights, so the only day I can take them is on Saturday. I really wish they had one night a week where they were there until 7 or 8. Otherwise, no complaints.

After being a client for nearly 20 years, I am done with NAH. Today I found myself APOLOGIZING for showing up at my appointment time with my mom's dying cat. (There were 2 other clients ahead of us) Dr. Kolb did come in for 5 minutes, stood in the doorway, and told me, "That's bad" as the cat was laboring for breath. He "guessed" that the cat had congestive heart failure, and then talked to me like I was an idiot when I asked questions about what we could do, how long the cat might have, what was likely to happen in the near term (so my mom would have a chance to say goodbye.) Dr. Kolb asked me if I had never had any experience with someone with heart failure, like my questions were stupid.

I took the cat to Medvet, where, after X-rays and a chest tap, AND a diagnosis of terminal cancer, not heart failure, he was put to sleep. No more of my (many) pet health care dollars for NAH.

We've been coming here for years. Dr. Kolb is the best. Very reasonably priced and super great with my wimpy dog who is terrified of everything, the vet included. You get a discount for your pet's good behavior. :
