They employees talk bad about the customer and their animals after they leave. The employees gossip in the waiting area about pets and their owners.

I would have appreciated being informed of what procedures were done and the cost of them when I called up to check. It was a bit of a shock to find out when I went to collect him. Otherwise the vet and staff were very pleasant and my pet is much better.

This practice has just helped us with our cat emergency on a Saturday morning. They fitted us in within an hour, and helped ease the distress we were all suffering! Total compassion and professionalism from start to finish. Can't thank them enough.

We have been a patient here since moving into the area. Called during business hours Saturday with listless, dehydrated dog. They told me to go to another vet as they only took appointments and were busy this afternoon. Not sure why I have a family vet if they will not see a very I'll current patient.

What a positive experience. Everyone was so friendly and helpful. Even though my bearded dragon only needed a spa day. .(i thought it was something more serious) they reassured me that it was just stuck shed and that she was very healthy. Thank you all so much for being so wonderful.

Companion Animal Clinic is a clinic that cares for the needs of your pet. For example, our dog wasn't feeling the best and they did a lot of studies and squeezed him into a slot that he wasn't even scheduled for. This office goes above and beyond the care for our pups. Scout is doing much better today! Thank you for all you do and thank you for caring.

Great vets office and wonderful doctors. They provided an emergency appointment for my guinea pig who had a bladder infection when she was three weeks old. I also had my male guinea pig neutered there. They were wonderful and took care of him well.

My hamster broke her tooth and I called the next morning and they were able to fit me in the same day. The staff were all so nice and welcoming and even let me come in with my hamster, which was great. Dr. McCormick was very helpful and informative. Overall a great experience and I'm so glad that there is a vet in Blacksburg that sees small mammals!

Everyone who I've met at Companion Animal Clinic are knowledgeable and caring. They seem open to new treatments and keep up with the research. I can trust them with the welfare of my dog no matter what the ailment. For me, that's the most important thing.

I went to Companion Animal Clinic last September after finding a cancerous lump on my dogs stomach. I wanted to make sure that I had doctors I trusted for the required surgery, and I could not have asked for a better team. The clinic was able to fit my pup in for surgery asap and were extremely patient with all of my questions during surgery and in the months following. I appreciate them more than I can explain and give them my highest recommendation!

My husband and I used to take all our pets to Dr McCormick @ Companion years ago but then we moved further away from Blacksburg. I was looking for a vet for my very sweet but hyper and stubborn 9 month old husky and a coworker recommended Companion. There are vets closer to home but Companion has evening appointments that work for my schedule so that offsets driving further, so I decided to take our pup there.

I was worried about a new vet for my Josie because she's hard to manage, but Dr Mitchell and the staff were so welcoming and nice. They were so patient with her, you'd think we were the only clients there even though they were very busy. I've never been to a vet practice where every staff member was so friendly and competent. I would definitely recommend Companion!

Fantastic team! Kind, patient, and transparent doctors and staff. Avalon and I felt right at home with Dr. Beckner. Really reasonably priced for the level of care you'll receive. Couldn't ask for more for my sweet 9 year old girl

The people at Companion Animal Clinic are so wonderful and caring! Even with curbside appointments, I've always felt totally comfortable sending my dogs in with the vet techs. They have taken great care of my dogs for an affordable price and have always talked me through exactly what they're doing and what pricing is like. I'm sad to be moving away!

Jezebels life came to a sudden end when she exhibited liver failure. Paul and his colleagues took care and consideration when giving me all the options available. Jez was an outdoor cat who spent her summers outside in the field or basking on the sun loungers. In winter she spent time curled up by the fire. She was always there for breakfast and back again for tea.

In her 13 years she only visited Paul and his colleagues twice. Despite not knowing her well, she was given the dignified end she deserved. She is now buried next to the lads in the garden. Many thanks to companion veterinary clinic for making her end as comfortable as it could be. Sandra.

We were traveling through the area and my senior dog ripped a toe nail out. This clinic fit him in at short notice and they were so kind and friendly. They checked out all of my concerns and were very patient with my dog who doesn't always act nicely at the vet. Another thing that was very helpful is they cut up the medicine for us. Since we are traveling it definitely made things a little easier.

I started coming to companion because they will see chickens. I know there are a few others but just after a phone call I knew this was the place for us. I will admit I am more than a helicopter mom when it comes to our pets. Dr McCormick, has made it clear that they are my pets and while he has the medical knowledge I know my girls. It has always been up to me what route we choose, I have never felt forced.

With other places I have been told what “should be done”. I ask questions I get answers, and if they don’t have answers they find them. We have had a terrible year with our girls, but he has been an angel. I refer to him as my chicken angel. My dogs were with another local vet and were due for their rabies. They are dog aggressive and I am uncomfortable with them being taken by other people (again helicopter mom here) and their original vet refused to do vaccinations with me (covid we couldn’t go in, I get that) but outside is totally an option.

With their animal aggressive behavior I am terrified that they will hurt another animal if someone isn’t overly cautious. Where at companion I was told “if you feel more comfortable your dogs will, we would be more than happy to do that with you outside” SOLD! Now my dogs are older and have had some checkups. The staff each time has brought up that I have a concern about them around others and they have that information and again they listen to my concerns when it comes to my pets.

This clinic has shown nothing but compassion, understanding that my animals are pets not live stock, and they have listened and literally held my hand and wiped my tears. I cannot praise them enough. I will never go anywhere else.

I have had dogs since 2001 and always been with companion vets Paul and the staff past and present have always been professional and pleasent and Paul especially when it was to make a tough decision about our poppy back in 2015 but he helped us make the decision and did this with empathy and dignity and helped us with the grieving after, i want to thank Paul personally for everything you have done for us and Barney, Poppy and Alfie over the years and you have a customer for life

The staff and vets are very friendly and take time to listen to your concerns. The vets also take time to discuss and carefully explain any health issues. They never make you feel like they are rushed. I also love the follow up home calls after a pet has had an illness or a procedure.

My puppy Kelso came for his puppy shots and boosters. They kept me informed on what his schedule should look like, explained everything in detail, and helped formulate a plan for my pup that worked best for us. They even sent us home with a ton of reading material on different vaccines, infections and just some puppy tips in general. Hands down the best vet in the area, and are moderately priced. My dog was super comfortable here and usually he’s super anxious and stressed at the vet.

I love the doctors and front desk staff here! I was nervous about my new dog's (he's 12; but he's new to me, being a rescue!) first appointment but Kara and the other staff here made me feel so normal and at ease and Cecil (the aforementioned old gent) LOVED them. He got a full geriatric workup PLUS a bath, ear cleaning, and nail trim for a VERY reasonable price - full transparency, about $370 for like 7 hours of work. Coming from DC, that is MORE than reasonable for the quality of care, kindness, and professionalism we got. We'll be back and, if you have pets in need of a vet, we'll see you there!

The staff is really great! they were courteous and pleasant each time I called in. COVID has made getting veterinary care for my dogs difficult because I can't go in to the appointment with them. Dr. Beckner made this so much less stressful by coming to the car to get them and bringing them back to me. It eased my nerves a lot to be able to speak directly to her knowing that she was the one caring for them. I will keep coming here to see Dr. Beckner as long as we can.

Paul and his fabulous team have provided a great service yet again for our super special dog Hebe. On Wednesday Hebe had his second cranial cruciate repair operation. The service was again as professional as ever and so far Hebe is doing well. We thank Paul and the team at Companion Vets for making what is always a worrying time so much easier. Always highly recommended!

Companion Vets and Paul have been an essential part of our lives over twenty years and three dogs. I can not recommend them highly enough. Small and personal but totally professional, they have rejoiced with us at the arrival of new fur babies and helped us make that last loving decision at the end. Always welcoming and friendly, I have total trust in them.

DO NOT GO TO THIS CLINIC. I went for my follow up appointment for my puppy and was told one vaccination would be given (that should have cost $18). After my puppy finished receiving his shot I went to the front desk to find out shots were given that WERE NOT approved of. This brought the bill to $160. I spoke with the doctor (Dr. Walter) who claimed to have mentioned these shots, which were not approved of.

This clinic promotes scamming customers and not accepting responsibility for error. Do not put your pets health in their hands. There are plenty of local vets less than 10 minutes from this clinic with the same price point that do not scam customers.

Paul and his team have cared for my dog since day 1. I would not trust anyone else with this much loved member of the family. As well as providing routine health care, Paul has improved my dog's breathing and removed skin growths. Each time the operation has been explained fully and it has been such a comfort to know that my dog is in safe and experienced hands. Thank you to the whole team at Companion.

Visited this clinic twice in the past two months for different animals. First time, I found a stray kitten and wanted him FeLV/FIV tested and vaccinated to better his chances of finding a home. They got me in for an appointment that week and the staff was great. My only complaint is that I was very clear I was not keeping this kitten and just wanted the test and vaccines to get him started, and when I went to check out they had performed an ear swab for mites and thrown on meds.

I declined the meds, and I get that the ear swab is only $10, but I am on a graduate student budget and was very clear from the start. I prefer vets to go over treatment plans with me before anything is done. Second time, took my dog in to have lumps checked out and vaccines. They got me in same day for an appointment and again the staff was great.

My dog is very nervous and they were great with him. The vet gave me all the options, pros and cons, for the lumps and when we decided to monitor she explained exactly what she wanted me to look for in measurable ways. Love that.

They are fabulous, accommodating, friendly, and go out of their way to help! I have moved with my dog in and out of 3 cities recently, and been to over 6 vet practices, and this is the best. In comparison to other places we have been, appointments were prompt and the fees were very reasonable, which is very important to us. I think we saw 5 of the veterinarians at companion and had a positive experience with each (as well as techs and office staff)! We are sad to be moving out of Blacksburg and will miss this clinic.

We have used Companion Animal Clinic for many years, probably 30 at last count. All of our various cats and dogs have received excellent treatment. Our current pet, Clayton, a Shih Tzu, whom we rescued from a puppy mill situation, was thoroughly checked out and we were given excellent advice on raising a rescued dog. In the past whenever we had the horrible ordeal of having to put down a beloved pet, the vets were so kind and compassionate that we knew we had made the right decision.

We feel confident in all of the vets there so we use the one that happens to be available at the time we need. We have never had a bad experience at Companion over the 30 plus years we have used them. I would highly recommend Companion Animal Clinic to anyone wanting the best treatment for their pets.

I went to 3 different vets in Blacksburg (VT vet and Blacksburg animal hospital), and this place is the best. You can usually make an appointment on the same day, and the wait time is really short! Also, Dr. Gallagher is the best! I was really concerned about my puppy and sent him e-mails, and he took time to explain everything. I felt like this place truly cares about customers.

I have been taking my numerous animals to this clinic for several years. I have always had a compassionate vet and vet techs who cared for my pets. Several years ago, after the clinic (and another clinic before that) couldn't find the cause of him losing weight, I promptly was given a referral to the vet school that week, where my cat was diagnosed with cancer.

I have never been asked to go to the back for shots or for any purpose. I can only guess that they had some emergency animals come in and/or were unexpectedly busy. I've never had to wait longer than 15-20 minutes--try doing that at any doctor's office! I highly recommend this clinic!

I'm a transplant from Minnesota, well I and my three female cats are! Dr. Riddle and other professionals have taken extra special care right from the start. They are thorough, patient, knowledgeable (how can they not be with VT Vet School nearby). They follow-up on my visits, ensuring everything goes well and you really can't complain about the pricing. Everything seems expensive these days, but CAC delivers value to me and my menagerie.

I brought two dogs to Companion (I made two appointments it was NOT a surprise visit). The vet was awesome, spent a lot of time with each of my animals, the techs seemed a little frazzled that there were two, but what can you do. I thought their prices were a little high, especially the wellness exam which was about the same price as my horse's wellness exam, but like I said the vet spent quality time with my pets so I wasn't too concerned about it. HOWEVER, communication between vets/techs and office staff is horrible.

The girls at the front desk, while nice, are completely incompetent. I asked specifically when I made the appointment if I needed a fecal sample and they said no. Got there and they were like, "Oh you don't have a fecal?" Didn't know I needed a follow up, asked ME what vaccines were getting next time, ect. I will definitely go back, but just be prepared for a lot of bumbling and fumbling at check out.

The clinic called to tell us our cat was due for a vaccine, which required an annual exam.it took the entire exam for three staff members to figure out the cat was not, in fact, due for any vaccines. The annual exam costs $47 which is exorbitant, especially considering my vet father could have done it for free. I found the whole experience totally unorganized and aggravating and was told something different by everyone about what was due and when. The vets and techs are good, fine, whatever, but I can't afford that shit.

My husband brings our 9 year old shepard mix Toby here to get his occasional shots since it's nearby his place. I happened to tag along for one visit as he needed an updated shot so he can come to work with me back in Seattle. The clinic was open til 1pm on Saturdays and we arrived at 11:45 or so. The lobby had a super nasty Pitbull who was making chaos at everyone and every dog.

We had to wait for a bit to get back (at least 30 mins) which seemed a bit excessive for just a quick shot. When we finally did get called back, we were warned that there were 2 cats loose in the back lab. Our puppy is ok with other animals but it just seemed a bit odd if you are a pet clinic to have cats roaming free when you bring dogs into the same areas to get shots. There was no exam room or anything to get shots like I've experienced and just found a little odd to get our shots in the middle of a lab in the rear.
