Services
We understand that your pet is a member of the family. Our healthcare team is committed to providing the best veterinary care. We are dedicated to assisting you with all routine preventive care, as well as medical and surgical care as necessary throughout your pet's lifetime. The vet I have used for many years, Total Bond, in Lake Wylie wanted so much to extract 1 tooth on my senior kitty I was forced to look elsewhere. And boy am I happy. I loved Dr. Suggs and the staff was.
Gaston Veterinary Hospital offers a medical and surgical wing for cats only. Bringing your beloved feline friend is stressful enough, and can escalate into an even more stressful situation when your cat is surrounded by other types of animals that it may not be used to, as well as the smells and sounds that are associated with them. That is why we provide this cat only clinic as an option for cat owners who do not wish for their felines to interact with other species of pets.
In 1945 Dr. Ben Dawsey, a recent graduate in veterinary medicine from Auburn University, saw a need for a full service veterinary hospital in his home town of Gastonia. Starting out as the first such facility in the county, Gaston Veterinary Hospital has grown from a 900 sq foot building to the 5000 sq foot building that it is today.

When my dog got sick I was looking for a new veterinarian. I really like my current veterinarian however, has it become almost impossible to get in to see her for a sick visit because she's so busy. I read some reviews and decided to go to GASTON veterinary Hospital. They were so nice and the veterinarian seemed to genuinely care about my dog. I will absolutely go there again. Most importantly my dog is better! Looks like I found my new veterinarian!

They are the worst place to send you animals to be boarded especially if they need medicine on a daily basis. I sent my both my dogs there an none of her medicine was given to her an after I called to confront the vet I got called a liar and was told that their staff gave them her meds. I sent exactly enough for the time she was going to be there and not one pill was touched. Sent dog food as well and it was not touch so are they even feeding my animals or your animals when you leave them.

Gaston veterinary hospital saved my dog's life, when no other place would even help us w/o an appointment. This was a true emergency, something you can't plan for! Gaston veterinary hospital was the only place to say come in, we will be waiting on you. They saved my dog's life! Thanks to these amazing people, my kids didn't loose their best friend! (Thank God they take walk ins)

I had a puppy die due to parvovirus, we wanted to get her cremated and found this location. They were very sympathetic, and their service was faster than promised. A few months after our puppy passed, we tried again, and we have been bringing her to this location. The prices are cheap and the service is quick, and I don't feel like they try an pressure you into buying unnecessary stuff like the other vets do.

One thing I will say, I noticed some people complain about their animal's record, this place is old school and they have paper records. Btw our new puppy is great, we miss our Misty who passed, but we wanted the joy of a dog in our family.

So I've heard nothing but good things about Gaston Veterinary Hospital and planned on them to be my forever vet just like my family has for years. But on yesterday that all changed, Sunday my 5 month old puppy got sick. She threw up once and refused to eat the rest of her food which is not her at all, so I monitored her throughout the night and decided I'd take her to the vet in the morning if she were still acting odd and not eating.

Fast forward to Monday morning 8/16/21 I take her to the Vet and I tell the Dr. what's going on / what I thought may have happened along with a timeline of events. The Dr. then asked if my dog was vaccinated, it may be a case of parvovirus which she's claimed to see a rise in. At this point I'm slightly confused, there's been no fowl odor and she's only thrown up once.

To top things off the Dr. had our chart and our vaccinations were done by them last month. This was my first sign we probably should've left. The Dr. blew off what I thought may have been wrong and asked to run a X-ray. After the X-ray and a few other things (temp check) she comes back and tells me that my dog has gas but she can't see a blockage but suggested I leave her for the day and they give her fluids and another X-ray around 2pm to see if the gas has let up.

Around 2:30pm the Dr. calls me and suggests that they keep my dog overnight that she would suggest surgery in the am to see about reliving the gas and a possible blockage. At this point I told her absolutely NOT I'm coming to get my dog! I contacted another Dr. on the way, told him exactly what was going on and he literally told me over the phone what to do without even seeing my dog! $541 later and still no clue what was going on (From Dr Wilham) I took her home simply gave her some Pepcid to relieve the gas since they didn't give her anything and fed her.

I monitored her throughout the night, fed her this morning and she's literally back to her perky self. At the end of the day I feel like Dr. Wilham was guessing and just trying to get more money rather than being rational and trying something simple (antibiotics I suggested at the beginning of the visit) but all is well, I'm a new dog owner and I just wanted to do the best thing for my dog, I'm only sharing this in hopes that no one else has to go through something like this. Don't be afraid to get a second opinion and trust your gut!

We brought our angel baby here the last few months of his life, he seemed to like it here and they are very compassionate and caring they will tell you the good and the bad. We lost our baby a few weeks ago and they sent us a card in the mail to console us. This place is the nicest place ever even when they're slam busy. If we get another pet we'll be choosing here but as of right now we aren't ready for another pet, but when we do I'll be back, Thank Y'all for your awesome work and thank you for being so kind and caring when it comes to these babies.

If your baby is going through the final stages of life they'll do what they can to make them comfortable, our baby wasn't able to walk and they still went above and beyond to see our baby

After having to take our cat to the Denver Emergency Vet for an injury and them telling us his entire leg would need to be amputated, our friend told us to go to Gaston Vet. We are so glad we did! The emergency vet was going to amputate his entire leg but the dr here said he was putting a bit of pressure on it and would be a good candidate for a splint.

She explained to us the pros and cons of each of our options and we went with splinting his leg. He adjusted to the splint in less than an hour after getting home. Now we are a month from the injury and he's out of his splint and back to playing exactly as he did before he broke his leg! He hardly limps. We are so happy with the care he got from Gaston Vet & especially Dr. Wilhelm for really taking the time to help us make the best decision for our Toby. Pictures attached are him in his splint and him after he got it off.

I had to euthanize my 15 year old best friend. Not only were the staff professional but the were understanding. Gave us plenty of time and support. The took time to make a clay paw print, gave my road dog dignity in his last moments. I felt their support even though this is commonplace to them. My furbaby came home Monday in a beautiful copper urn and yesterday they sent me a beautiful card with a sweet message that I needed to hear!

My first ever visit and I'll definitely be choosing this for my primary vet! Staff was friendly and very accommodating. My Zoe is a shy dog. But the vets working with her made her feel so comfortable she stayed completely calm even though her shot and tests were uncomfortable.

Had a very sick pup this morning, and GVH did not hesitate getting us in. Dr Pearman took such great care of Kitty, my English Bulldog. Kitty was stressed and was thrashing around and the doctor and tech stayed calm and calmed Kitty. The doctor did not immediately direct us to the most expensive option for care. She stared at a basic level of care and we were given clear instructions on what to watch for, and what should cause us a return trip. Happy to report Kitty is feeing better and it doesn't look like we need to go back in. I'll also add, the fee was VERY reasonable. Much less than I anticipated.

We adopted a shelter pet and chose Gaston Vet from the list provided to do the spaying. Unfortunately 2 days later our 1.5 yr old new addition died. At the time, it was thought to possibly be parvovirus. While waiting on test results I called to tell Gaston Vet about the potential virus. There was no sympathy and no questions as to what happened. She said she'd pass on the message.

Half an hour later I called again to relay that the test was negative and we had no idea what she died of. The first message had not even been sent back. Anyone who knows about this virus know it can spread like wildfire and precautions needs to be taken immediately. Again, there was no questions, nothing. I'd hoped the vet would at least call. It's been 4 days and nothing.

I don't know if it was bc there was nothing to gain from a shelter dog or they're just that callous. But as I'm crying on the phone, all they said was "I'll put this with first message, have a good day." Seriously! "A good day!?"

Very caring and professional staff. You can tell they've been doing this a long time there is lots of cooperation and flow to the group The decor is dated but comfortable The veterinary staff is very knowledgeable. I've now taken three dogs for treatment here and boarded two since early December 2017; I've been very satisfied and will continue to use Gaston Vet. The people here seem very caring and knowledgeable, and my dogs themselves have never shown any reluctance to return.

Gaston Vet Hospital fantastic. I would not take my four legged children to any other vet in the area. I have been coming to this vet hospital for over 12 years. I have NEVER had one bad experience. The vet techs are always friendly and welcoming and helpful to lend a hand. Dr. Pearman is my PCV (primary care vet) and has always taken the greatest care of my children with knowledge, kindness and compassion. Highly recommend
