We've had a negative experience with this veterinary hospital more than once. Both of our parakeets have gone in with infections at different times and despite my extreme anxiety to handle the birds to administer medications to them (because they're not used to being handled), the anxiety we had and the stress on the birds wasn't considered with their treatment and we were still told the only way to give them meds was through syringe. We were never given the option to give them antibiotics through their water, which I didn't know was possible at the time. We were given no other choice but to catch the birds once a day for 14 days straight for medication. There was very little compassion or assistance offered from Canobie Lake Veterinary, especially after the first time, which was during covid. We weren't even allowed into the building to watch them administer the medication, so we felt very unprepared. I ended up hiring someone to come into my home for 2 weeks to help me give the medication and this ended up costing so much extra money. All of the stress could have easily been avoided.

Most recently, I was convinced our older parakeet was dying, as he was at the bottom of the cage with his eyes closed. I had heard him fall from the cage but not climb up as normal, so I checked on him. I called the vet immediately because knowing he is an older bird, I wanted to do whatever I could to ensure he was as comfortable as possible. I covered his cage, put on soft music and did what I could. Without knowing much about the situation, the person who answered at CLV said I needed to bring him in right away. I told her that I just didn't want him to suffer. She insisted more than 3 times in that conversation that the bird was indeed suffering and that I needed to get him there as soon as possible. It was my children's last day of school and we canceled our plans to bring him, only to find out that not only was he not suffering, but he wasn't dying. We should have been offered the chance to speak with a technician who maybe could have better assessed the situation, before the desk person just assumed the bird was dying (I'm not a veterinarian)! Not only would I have saved hundreds of dollars, but it would have been a lot less stressful on the bird and on us. He ended up being totally fine and likely passed out after he fell from the perch. It was so sad that happened to him, but he was a while later and is fine months later. Other things happened as well that rubbed us the wrong way between these few visits, but it's not worth making a laundry list of everything that went wrong.

I really feel this practice is only about money. I am taking the birds elsewhere for all future visits and unfortunately cannot recommend them.

Canobie Lake Vet has been so great with my pets. I have a cat and a bunny and they have taken great care of both of them. They go above and beyond to make sure they get answers that are needed to provide the best care for all pets. I highly recommend them to anyone who has pets.

They advertise emergency services so I called ahead (8am Monday) to get my dog in during regular office hours. His hips gave out late yesterday (a sunday) and he was in a lot of pain. His own vet can not see him until 3pm, despite me repeatedly telling them how much pain he is in.
They told me they were busy and I should wait for my own vet. When I said AGAIN that he was in pain, and asked them if they were in fact an emergency vet, the girl sort of stammered and then said that they had other emergencies coming. She then told me it would be $150 emergency fee (despite their website saying they never charge an emergency fee during normal business hours). I told her I was fine with paying it but she still said they really had no openings. Now, I realize that he is not a patient of theirs, so they have no loyalty to me, BUT, they are supposed to be an EMERGENCY VET. This is, in fact, an emergency. Curious how they got an AAHA accreditation when they tell an emergency that gave them a courtesy call to go elsewhere.

very clean, very modern, very friendly and kind staff. They took my duck when no other vet in my area would, and treated said duck just like a normal patient.

After having seen 3 other vets, I brought my great dane to Canobie Lake Vet Hospital. On the FIRST visit, Dr. Dressler indicated that I needed to see a specialist, and the tests I could expect to be done by them. That I was "probably not dealing with 2 different issues, but one that encompassed all of the symptoms". She knew what I was facing, and sent me to the specialist.

She was right. I finally had my answer. Biopsies don't lie. And, the treatment the other vets had put my dog on were exactly the opposite of what she needed. Fast forward another couple of months, my other dane had an issue. Again she immediately knew what was going on. She gave conservative treatment for 2 weeks, and sent me on to a specialist when that did not resolve the problem.

I love that she is so knowledgable and looks out for the overall well being of my pets. She takes her time with you. Explains what is going on, and answers your questions. She is mindful of their overall health. She did not recommend antibiotics for a very young puppy, but topical treatment, which worked! The staff is wonderful! And I always get a follow up e-mail asking how my pet is doing. I am so glad I found Canobie Lake Vet Hospital.

How do you miss that my bearded dragon has gout? With blueberry sized abscesses all over his body? Then charge me 300 dollars? Ya right. Don't recommend at all.

Wonderful care, very professional and friendly staff! This was my first visit. It was for my Russian tortoise Speedy, who needed a beak trim and a nail trim. The vet talked with me at length about Speedy, care of Russian tortoises in general, and some things I can try to hopefully get him to be a less picky eater. Everyone was so kind to Speedy and seemed pretty delighted to have him at the clinic. Here's a photo of him with his newly-trimmed beak and nails, having a power nap when he got home :

PLEASE READ THIS! We lost our dog Millie tonight. She had a C-section surgery a few days ago at Canobie Lake Vet with DR DYLE. The first two days she came home she was very lethargic. Couldn't even stand up to go to the bathroom. We brought her in early this AM.they ran tests and diagnosed her with colitis. They kept her the whole day and gave her IV fluids and antibiotics.

Every time the doctor called to update us they would tell us she was fine and "improving compared to this morning". She had low blood pressure and still wouldn't eat. They told us to bring her to an ER vet at 5pm so that she can be monitored and get fluids overnight. Canobie brought her out on a stretcher.and told us this was normal! She couldn't even walk.

They told us she was ok and that this was because they sedated her. NO pain medication is supposed to make your dog unable to walk. When we got the the ER they told us within 20 min that she was in end stage sepsis. That the vet failed to help her and she was too far gone. Her C-section incision was open and the doctor at rockingham er told us right away that she could smell the infection.

They also told us that her belly was swollen due to septic fluid. We had to put her to sleep tonight. We lost a family member and our baby because Canobie neglected to even look at our dog during her stay today. On top of all of this.when we called to tell Canobie what was happening.we asked to talk to the doctor and was told that she was "gone for the night".

We asked for someone to please call us so we could get some answers and NOBODY called us. Complete negligence and malpractice. Zero compassion. Our hearts are shattered. Please please please do not bring your animal here for any type of emergency! Please! No family should ever have to go through this pain.

The best experience I have ever had from a vet. My son whiskey loved going there because we were comfortable too! They are empathetic and personable. I can't say enough good things about all the staff their. The hardest part was making the decision to euthanize our dog due to chronic pain and other medical concerns. The vet educated us on outcomes, progressive treatment etc. but also explained everything to us.

They were so kind and I'm so happy to know that when the time comes, that they will give as much love to our next family members. I highly recommend them to anyone who cares for their dog like family.

My rabbit and I have been clients of Canobie Lake Vet for the past year, and they have been nothing but kind, professional, helpful, and attentive. I also think it's fantastic that they offer inexpensive appointments solely for nail trims, which is hard to find for rabbits.

Big shout out not only to the good care but the ingenuity of the techs. First off when they send you home with meds - they mark the syringes to show you dosage which is a big help. Next for my tiny finch that has a bad infection- they helped create for me a couple of modified syringes that are a better fit for a tiny little creature to get meds. And it made the biggest difference on my success in getting meds in. Not only that but the docs in general - know their stuff especially in the more exotic critters like birds and buns. Two thumbs up. I’d give three if I had a third thumb.

I brought my new black lab puppy in for his wellness exams. The staff was kind, efficient, knowledgeable, and most importantly absolutely ADORED my dog. The professionalism and warmness from every technician / doctor will keep us coming back. Thank you to the team for providing excellent service. Peep can't wait for his next visit!

BIRD OWNERS: Take your birds somewhere else! I implore you. This facility needs to stop advertising that they can treat exotic animals, specifically birds. The vets and technicians are all very nice there, but unfortunately do not know what they're talking about. They can only handle external injuries such as broken bones or cuts. If your bird has internal injuries or illnesses you need to take them elsewhere! Not trying to bash this office since I appreciate their efforts, but they just don't have the knowledge to treat exotics.

Last night was the scariest of my life. I took Emma to the vet for a couple of vaccines yesterday afternoon. Shortly after we got home she started rubbing her muzzle on the floor. Her lips and nose were swelling rapidly and she began vomiting. I called her vet, who was 25-30 minutes away, and they told me to get her there ASAP. Because Wignall Animal Hospital in Dracut, MA was only 5 minutes away, I called them and said that I was on my way with a dog who was having a severe allergic reaction.
WIGNALL ANIMAL HOSPITAL IN DRACUT TOLD ME THAT THEY WOULD REFUSE TO SEE HER!

I didn’t have time to argue with them so I hung up and raced through rush hour traffic to get Emma to her vet in Salem, NH. I called them on the way and they told me to pull up right to the front door because they were waiting for us. They ran out and grabbed Emma from the car and rush her into the hospital. They administered Benadryl, steroids, and an anti nausea medicine, then they monitored her blood pressure for 30 minutes before we went home.

The swelling decreased significantly overnight but we had to return for a second steroid shot this afternoon because there was still some residual swelling. I have to give a huge shoutout to the doctors and vet technicians at Canobie Lake Veterinary Hospital, LLC I’m not exaggerating when I say that they saved Emma’s life last night.

I rescued my irish wolfhound 3 months ago from my local rescue and she came with tapeworms. I treated her multiple times for worms but she still had them. This week I called my vet and sent photos of said worms and I got a voicemail saying they were hookworms not tapeworms and she needed to go to the ER ASAP because she may be anemic from them. They then prescribed me medication for tape and hookworms and only gave me a low dosage medication not fit for her weight for hookworms when I paid for both.

I got a second opinion from my foster and 3 other vets and they said they were indeed tapeworms and she had gotten treatment for the wrong thing. $400 wasted in the ER when she was showing no signs of anemia and they had me thinking my dog was going to die in the next few days. These people are unreliable and I will not be returning.

Brought my parrot 33yrs old to them I asked them to take care of her because I was having my home professionally cleaned fumes can kill them. They agreed and said you need to bring a cage for her, then I agreed. I brought my parrot in a tiny carrier because they were promising to put her in the lg cage I brought them. I also brought a water bowl and her favorite foods to keep her comfortable while my home aired out.

When I arrived I asked if I could move her into the lg cage because my instincts told me they could care less! All they cared for was there overpriced boarding fee. I was correct I returned 3+ hrs later earlier than I told them to find out I was right. This senior parrot was never moved into her cage she was standing in 2 inches of poop! no water no food!

Then they lied to me when I questioned the staff about leaving her in a tiny hot carrier. we moved her into the cage. I showed them the water bowl was dry, food never opened, cage still without a bottom. Then they gave me my money back! Think twice before going there because you are not allowed inside to see how your loving pet is being treated

Brought my 33 yr old African Grey to them for boarding just for day. They agreed but said I need to bring my own cage with her for her to stay in while they looked after her and protected her. I gathered up a cage. a water bowl, my parrots favorite foods. When I arrived at Canobie veterinary Hospital the staff refused to let me help. I asked if I could move her to the lg cage from the tiny carrier because I handle this parrot the best.

This staff member said we know how to do that you cannot come in. I agreed but thought they were hiding something. They quickly asked me for a ridiculous amount of money to watch her for a day. I decided to pick my Parrot up early because I was worried as about her. I was right! This office left her in a tiny carrier for 3+ hrs no food no drink! I saw her standing in a huge pile of bird poop I question the staff and they lied right to my face saying they put her in the lg cage.

The water bowl was completely dry! The food never touched! The cage still not set up for the bird no bottom put on it. I let the office manager know she immediately refunded my money after I asked 3x. The owner of this hospital Dr. Magnuson has not even offered an oppology. Think twice my friends before leaving your loving pet with them because you can't see the way they are treated or mistreated

I have a elderly gerbil who began growing fairly rapidly. I was very worried that it could be a tumor so I called my regular vet. They weren't able to see her for nearly 3 weeks. I love all my animals with my whole entire heart and this morning when she was visibly larger I became desperate to have her seen sooner. I called every practice I could find, near and not near to me.

Nobody would see her. Canobie Lake Vereranary Hospital didn't have an opening either but they saw her between clients. I drove quite a ways to get her there. I can't express how thankful I am that they made time for my old furry friend. I did not get to personally meet the veterinarian that saw my gerbil so I hope that she sees this. Thank you thank you thank you! Soo much! Tosha & Aiden

My one year old English bulldog has been an establish patient since i got her at 9 weeks old. One month ago I spent nearly 1000 dollars on a full work up for an aspiration pneumonia. My dog started experiencing the same symptoms yesterday and I recognized them and knew she was developing a reoccurring pneumonia. I called at 725 am to explain the symptoms, how my dog was appearing and expressed how important i thought it was for her to be seen.

They would not accomodate an appointment today, even though they realized how she was presenting and her history. They offered me an appointment the next day and I asked if they would give me one days worth of antibiotics until then so she did not decline further, they refused that as well. I think its a shame you could not make time to examine a sick dog, who is known to your practice, and who has these exact same symptoms before.

We called another vet who was also fully booked, but made time for us based on how my dog was presenting, she is not even an established patient there. The doctor informed me she was not treated nearly long enough one month ago. You've lost our buisness and we will not be referring you to anyone else.

The staff at Canobie are amazing. Today I arrived at my appointment for my two dogs at 10:52am. When I called in, it appeared that my appointment was at 10:30 and after checking, yes, the confirmation did say 10:30 so I was clearly late. Even though I was late, they checked with the doctor and said if I could be a little flexible with my time, they could get me in.

Of course, I was willing. I was in and out for both of my dogs in one hour and everyone was so lovely. Danielle, the technician was amazing and so sweet. Dr. Handley, even though I was late for my appointment, spent an extensive amount of time talking with me about how best to care for my senior dog and what she needed. What a great experience - I love this place. And my dogs do too!

The staff is wonderful with my pet rabbit, Boo. If you're looking for a Vet to take care of any exotics Canobie Lake Vet is the place to go. Very welcoming and knowledgeable staff they seem to really love all their patients. We don't have a cat or dog but I'm sure they will take care of them just as well as our Rabbit.

Disappointed. I'm always on time. I patiently wait every visit knowing they are busy. Pay the extremely high cost of all services. When I called today for an emergency they could not fit my dog in. Disappointed for how loyal I am for all services done here, they would not support me in my time of need.

What an amazing group at Canobie. I can never thank you enough for your support and caring. You helped me through such a hard time when I realized my little Rondo was not going to get better. Thank you for being right there with me when I had to say good bye. The beautiful footprint ornament you made for us will be cherished. You guys are the absolute best!

I brought my 9 year old rabbit to the vet for the first time for an eye condition. She had always been healthy but had some buildup on her eyes. I spent $400 on treatment and medicine, and my poor bunny died before she could even finish the 2 weeks of medicine they gave her. I could imagine if they cared about the animals and customers, they would have warned me DEATH was a possibility before I spent $200 on meds.

I brought my 4 year old bunny here for her first vet exam. They were able to get me an appointment relatively soon. I only needed her nails to be trimmed because every time I've done it myself I have cut the quick and made her bleed. They told me I needed to have a new patient exam before scheduling a nail trim. I was nervous because she doesn't like being held but they did an amazing job with her!

The Dr. gave me great advice with regards to her diet and I will definitely be back. Most importantly, her nails are trimmed and she didn't bleed. It's under $20 to get them trimmed again. They were great.

I am fostering-to-adopt a kitty through ARNNE and Canobie was their preferred vet. Not being able to choose my baby's doctor was nerve racking but Dr Handley is I N C R E D I B L E! She is kind, patient and thorough. I felt at ease with my kitty in her care. I had about 20 questions each visit and he has a multitude of health conditions. She would go through my list and answer each one and give advice.

I also appreciate her through but gentle approach. I have had a lot of experience with doctors in my lifetime and she's one of the good ones. I highly recommend her. Thank you, Dr Handley! Also, Robby is wonderful, sweet and personable. What a team!

We are new puppy owners. Just brought home a 2 month old Bernedoodle. Clearly we have a lot of questions and concerns, as this is our first rodeo. The staff across the board were fantastic and patient. I have emailed and called with questions, too, and they have been amazing about answer all my queries. The facility itself is brand new and a beautiful building. The exam rooms are sleek and clean. They are pricy, but I feel as though you get what you pay for.

Super helpful and attentive, the vets and nurses explain everything to you before it happens (and the cost), super kind to my kitty and my family's other pets, super knowledgeable and very kind. I'm so happy I switched, because I know if I need medical care for my cat she's in good hands. They even send you emails to check on how your pet is doing a few days after you leave! Incredible place

I went in to this vet with my very sick and lethargic rabbit I knew going into this vet I would probably have to but him down because he was very sick. After the vet took X-rays and diagnosed my rabbit with pneumonia she said that he was going to be fine and rabbits get this all the time. And that he was just tired and had a belly ache from the air in his tummy because he could not breathe.

But he was so sick she should have know he wasn't going to make it. She then prescribed multiple medications for me to take home and give to him for the next few days. That costed me almost $600 We then got home and after I gave him his medicine and I put him down to rest in his cage. And about an hour later I got up to check on him and he was dead.

I should not have had to hold my dead pet after just leaving a vet that said he would be okay I am traumatized and my poor bunny should not have had to suffer. I am writing this review so people know and can ask the question about putting your pet down so they don't have to suffer and you can hold them while they take there last breathe, because this hospital did not give me that option and they should have been realistic with me.

Just relocated back to NH from PA and everyone recommended Canobie for my two Yorkies care. The staff and Dr Magnessun were wonderful, very attentive and made us feel we already were clients. Those that know me will tell you my fur babies are treated like my children and sometimes I can be a little fussy about their care. The dogs even seemed calm.

Just wanted to thank Dr. Dressel and Carrie for the excellent care and attention shown to our dog Sookie on the visit for her annual checkup on Wednesday, January 30. We chose to bring Sookie to Canobie because they had done all of the surgeries(5) when she was at The MSPCA at Nevins Farm in Methuen, MA. The folks at the Nevins wasted no time in telling us how grateful they were to the staff at Canobie Lake and what a great job they did medically! Sookie is a 10-year old Maltese who we adopted last February 16.

She is an important part of our family and great care is an important part of keeping her healthy. Carrie was very helpful in that she explained all of the options for treatment carefully and was very personable while doing it. Dr. Dressel took the time to explain what they would be looking for and what the process would be. The care and attention shown to Sookie and to us was first rate.

We recommend Canobie Lake Veterinary Hospital very highly. It is worth it for us to travel a little to get the best care and attention for Sookie. Dr. Dressel made a follow-up call less than 24 hours later to give us the good news that all her tests were normal.

My 1.5 year old puppy was playing with his gentle giant friend who is twice his size and got stepped on. Unfortunately, this broke one of his back toe nails. I called Canobie Lake Vet at 12:33 when they closed at 1pm asking if there was a chance they could fit him and check him out as he was bleeding and in a good amount of pain. They saw him within less than 10 minutes, stayed late to take care of him and make sure he's ok, and were so kind and pleasant the whole time.

I was understandably upset, and they were very comforting and supportive. They explained exactly what they were going to do, broke it all down to show me cost, and took absolutely amazing care of my fur baby! I was pleasantly surprised with the low cost of the visit given everything they needed to do (light sedation, IV pain meds, take home pain meds and antibiotics, bandaging, cone, nail removal, nail trim, etc).

I couldn't be more thankful and pleased with the treatment Jax and I got and will absolutely never go anywhere else! HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend! Thank you Canobie Lake Vet!

I cannot say enough about Dr Magnuson and her staff. I was going to another vet in Windham and was very unhappy. I almost put my 15 year old shih tzu down about a month ago. The Dr. changed her entire protocol for zoe's meds and treatment and with the amazing care she is like a new dog, she's eating constantly, playing and barking like she use to. Thank you Dr. Magnuson and your amazingly friendly and caring staff. Pam Stone

Best bet on thenortheast. Quickly identified and treated my dog for a heart murmur, got my very sick cat in within an hour at 7:30 in the morning and treats all of my animala very gently. As stressful as a trip to the vet can be this minimizes your stress as much as possible. You don't wait in the waiting room for more than a minute before they take you back so your pet is secluded from other animals.

The Vets are extremely thorough and explain everything that's going on and offer Solutions that could help your pet and our understanding about high costs of more complex procedures. The receptionist is always cheerful and if they're extremely busy and can't answer the phone you always get a call back within minutes. One of the best parts about this but is that they always call the next day to follow up to see how your pet is doing. I cannot say enough wonderful things about the staff here.

I had been going to Canobie for over 10 years. Dogs, cats and exotics. The prices have always been high but they treat the animals well and know what they are doing. Recently our 10 yr old rabbit developed a marble size growth on its thigh. They ran some blood to check for cancer. It came back inconclusive. They recommended the mass be removed. When they quoted me a price of over $800 I literally came unglued.

I knew I was being screwed. When I voiced my outrage I was told they have allot of overhead and the rabbit is considered an exotic! Exotic? are you shittin me, its a rabbit. 4H clubs around the country have been raising them for over 100 years. Well, I went to another vet. Didnt mention my experience at Canobie. New vet told me the rabbit appears healthy and at 10 years old is reaching its end. Didnt think it necessary to spend money on a blood test for cancer. Gave the rabbit a local numbing medication, clamped the mass, snipped it off and threw a few stitches on it.

It cost me $275! Bring all my animals to the new vet. Very compassionate and loves the animals. Yes its a bit further than Canobie was but ill take the drive knowing im not being porked

I am blown away this place only had 9 reviews before me! This is my regular vet and I absolutely adore everyone that works here. The care they take with every animal goes beyond what I have ever experienced in a vet! My dog actually loves coming here, and I feel like they really REALLY care about my furry child. We can count on them to get us RIGHT in if we need our pet to be seen asap.

They also have a rewards program which has allowed me to save a lot of money on my vet bills. Others have said it's a little more expensive here than other vets in town, and if they actually are, it's 100% worth it.

Amazing practice. I was told they specialized in exotics and they were wonderful. I loved their compassion, caring, attention to my pet's needs and respect for all living creatures.even rats.;- I even received a handwritten note from our doctor thanking us for our visit and checking in on us. So very kind. Great people!

We met Dr. Dressel at another animal hospital. She took great care of our elderly dog at that hospital, once she moved on, the care wasn't the same. I searched and found her at Canobie Vet. We had to put our dog down and I didn't want anyone else to do it. She has such a compassionate way about her. We had the kids with us for most of the visit (they knew it was coming) everyone in the office went over and above to make sure out whole family was ok.

They even provided the kids with clay paw prints of our dog. It was such a tough day and they made it bearable, and ensured that our last moments with him were on our terms. Someone commented on their prices0 we found them to be VERY reasonable comparatively.

Still a very good vet, however we decided to go to another local vet (Brushwood) as Canobie's prices are so high. We just did not need all that they offered, such as their online portal to access records, etc. No hard feelings, but we felt that it was all a bit unreasonable.

A few months ago, my family had to put our dog to sleep. Canobie Lake Veterinary Hospital made our dog's final moments comfortable. Our dog was a crazy beagle who loved spending time following us around the house trying to steal our food. He loved going for rides and walks, but he was terrified of the vet. Walking in the door to the vet's office meant a sprint out the door to go potty. Sadly, we knew that our dog was sick and the inevitable would come so my family did some research to find a veterinarian who performs euthanasia at home.

My dad found Canobie Lake Veterinary Hospital, and we decided this way would be best for the dog. On the day of the procedure, we called the vet's office early in the morning because the dog was not doing well, he wasn't trying to steal our food and he stopped eating, so we knew it was time. We scheduled an appointment for the afternoon when they were able to come to our house. Dr. Magnuson arrived at our home with her vet tech.

They explained the procedure to us and answered any questions that we had. With my families consent, they preformed the procedure. They did their best to comfort us while we cried our eyes out. Even though putting a dog down is a hard decision and this was one of the saddest moments of my life, I have nothing but good things to say about this office for making our dog's final moments free of stress and anxiety.

I recommended this office to my friend who also had a dog with cancer. Sadly, they also had to put their dog down. They were unable to get a house call due to the timing, but they spoke very highly of the Veterinarian and staff.
