Emergency & Urgent Care

We have a veterinarian and personnel on duty 6 days a week who are trained and equipped to handle any urgent care your pet has. Usually an emergency team consists of at least one veterinarian and technicians working together to save a pet's life. If you ever feel that your pet needs emergency treatment do not hesitate to call or come in immediately.

We are also available for urgent care when the condition is not life-threatening, but you feel your pet needs to be seen before you are able to get an appointment. If we are unable to schedule an appointment at a time that is convenient, you are welcome to drop off your pet. Our veterinarians will work to examine your pet in between scheduled appointments. Please call ahead to let us know if you wish to drop your pet off.

I can't say enough about BVH. DR. Houston and everyone else does such a stand out job. They have cared for so many of our rescue pups and they will going forward. I had to bring our Chihuahua Jake in today and they were so sweet and caring. He got meds and proper care. He's now resting comfortably. We've been at Bouton for almost 10 years and won't go anywhere else.

Customer Testimonials

Couldn't be more thankful for the staff. Put my best friend down and knew they would take care of her until her last breathe. They are Always wonderful with all my animals and we will continue to bring all my pets to them with great confidence.

I have taken many pets to Bouton over the last 15 years. Some have been my babies. Others have been foster dogs. I know multiple rescues use Bouton because of their great care. The entire staff is caring, loving toward my pets and offers the best care possible. It took me going to four different vets before I lucked upon Bouton and I will never go anywhere else!!

The ONLY veterinary hospital in will take my fur babies to. They're the best!

From Our Website

Located in Littleton, a suburb southwest of Denver, the veterinarians and technicians at Bouton Veterinary Hospital are committed to your pet's health and excel in the science of veterinary medicine and individualized patient care. Founded in 1940 by Dr. Bouton, it was owned and operated for many years by Dr. Charles Skow and his wife Dr. Deborah Caldwell. In 2010 they turned the practice over to Dr. Lara Houston, a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine. Dr. Houston worked closely with Dr. Caldwell for many years before acquiring the practice and takes pride in maintaining the high ideals set by the veterinarians before her.

In your search for a veterinary facility, we believe you should expect high quality care as well as great service. Our goal has been to assemble a veterinary health care team committed to providing exceptional client service and veterinary health care. Our commitment to you is to continue to offer our world class service and a state of the art veterinary facility. Your pet's annual veterinary check-up will include a total physical exam, with a thorough investigation of your pet's head, body and tail, and all his assorted cavities.

Bloat and gastric torsion is a serious condition and your pet should be rushed to the emergency room if this occurs. Certain breeds of dogs with deep chests and narrow waists, such as hounds, bouvier des Flandres, or doberman pinschers are more susceptible to a syndrome of gastric torsion and bloat. Gastric Dilation Volvulus (GDV) is a life threatening, acute condition that requires immediate medical attention. Certain breeds are more prone to this condition: boxers, great Danes, standard poodles, saint bernards, Irish setters, dobermans, weimaraners and gordon setters.

Veterinary care is crucial and effective for a wide variety of conditions. The following is a partial list of some of the most common. If you do not see your pet's specific condition listed, we encourage you to give us a call so we can personally address your particular concerns.

A cat enclosure offers the perfect way for your favorite feline to enjoy a little outdoor time without being subjected to the dangers of the real world. Before you make the decision about adding an enclosure to your property, consider these facts. Diabetes in cats, also known as feline diabetes mellitus, is an increasingly common disease affecting 1 out of every 400 cats. Obesity is the leading risk factor for diabetes. Cat declawing is possibly one of the most controversial of all animal surgeries.

Birds have recently become very popular as pets. And for good reason. They have many positive attributes, but very few negative characteristics. Many people who meet a good bird for the first time are amazed at how friendly and affectionate birds can be. They offer a great deal of companionship and will return all of the love you can give. More and more people are discovering that caged birds bring color, song or vocalization, and amusement into their lives. Many birds form strong attachments to people and make excellent companions.

Euthanasia is never an easy decision, and we are happy to answer any questions you may have. When you and your pet are ready we are honored to provide end of life services to let your pet pass with dignity. 2 The second thing we will want to know is what you would like to do with your pet afterward. This means that your pet will be cremated communally with other pets, and their ashes are spread on a property up north, owned by the Crematorium. We are happy to do a ink paw print and/or hair clipping of your pet at no additional charge.

As we gear up for the warmer weather, and Heartworm season, we are offering a discount on our Chemistry panel, CBC and annual Heartworm test.
