Barteaux Wallace There's a reason people have been entrusting their pets to Westfield Veterinary Group for generations. As the leader in veterinary care in northern New Jersey-with a full-service primary care practice and 24-hour emergency hospital-Westfield Veterinary Group has deep roots in this region. It's reflected in our steadfast dedication to caring for pets like members of the family. We have a genuine understanding of our community's animal health needs and we respond to meeting these needs with proven skill and experience.
Services
We are pleased to introduce you to your pet's healthcare team. Many of us have cared for animals at Westfield for decades and we are proud of the culture we have built that provides for a superior work environment as well as a high quality care facility. To best serve our clients during the month of August, we have temporarily modified the hours at our Union location only.
Deep Roots Dr. Richard Maus was destined to be a veterinary practice owner. His ambition and talent were evident early on, with his peers in veterinary school voting him mostly likely to own a practice. He fulfilled that prediction in 1985 when he purchased a northern New Jersey practice that had been operating since the 1940s-a strong foundation on which Westfield Veterinary Group, the region's leader in full-service general veterinary care-and the first primary care practice to bring 24-hour emergency services to the area-has been built.
Just as in human medicine, it's important for your pet to have a primary care doctor, too. A trusted professional who shares your vision for a long and healthy life. Someone you can turn to whenever you have a concern about your pet's health. Someone whose knowledge of your pet's medical history helps speed diagnosis and treatment.
At Westfield Veterinary Group, we aim to give you as many good years as possible with your pet through consistent wellness care. When you bring your pet in for regular veterinary visits, we're able to assess their ever-changing health, monitor any developing conditions, and make adjustments to their preventive care as needed.

I came here with my dog, I wanted to get her checked to see if she was pregnant. They clearly told me she wasn't and that 3 doctors checked to see to confirm she wasn't. She is pregnant. I'm not prepared for her to have these babies because these doctors didn't do there job right. She's going to have about 3 or 4 babies. It's frustrating and a lot of money was spent for that appointment. Money thrown to the trash.

Definitely stay away! No wonder 8 out of the past 10 reviews are 1 star. My dog has been a patient at the Westfield location for a year and other than astronomical prices the medical care was good. Not until yesterday. I had to take my dog to the emergency due to a gagging cough that was non stop and very concerning to me. I took him in and everything was good.

They examined him and said they didn't see anything and that they believed it was reverse sneezing. They gave me a few pills to give him at home and they have him 3 injections. One was Benadryl and a other was an opioid pain reliever called Butorphanol. This was supposed to mildly relax/ sedate him to stop the coughing. They give me the dog back an hour later and I realize already he isn't walking correctly.

I take him home and had to carry him up the steps and places him on the couch. He was extremely sedated. Barley coherent. About An hour or 2 after I get home with him I received a call from the doctor herself asking me how he is because she was reviewing the notes and the nurse had administered him OVER 2.5 TIMES the correct amount of medicine. This opioid based medication was injected into him 2.5x more than it should have.

She tells me that she recommended me taking him back so they can monitor him. THIS IS ABSOLUTELY UNACCEPTABLE. The doctor was very nice and apologetic but that doesn't make up for this mistake. Someone was negligent and unable to perform there job duties correctly. My dog could have overdosed and died because of this. The doctor said the medicine will wear off in 4-6 hours.

Well it's been 30 hours and he is still not back to normal. On top of this my bill at the end of the day was over $600. I shouldn't have to pay a dime after this. The manager I spoke with gave me a credit of $170 off one of the X-ray charges. That was all she was able to do. That is a load of $hIt. I will be filing a formal complaint with the state board of veterinarians. As well as switching vets without a doubt. NEVER AGAIN. Nothing but a money pit.

No more again, very disappointed. In general, the vet was good, the office (staff and management) is bad. the only thing that the office/management cares about is their price and profit. The treatment price is not transparent and only tell you when you at your appointment that the price went up from $575 to $725. and the $575 estimate was mistaken so they could not honor it, and sorry nothing they will do!

They blamed on the vet gave wrong estimation but management couldn't take the responsibility, and wouldn't give you breakdown until you ask for it, then it shows there is another $90 for consultation that was not included in the estimation. sigh~ I had missed a week timing to treat my senior dog, and one week is a long time for the little poor thing! Never give them the third chance!

Very unprofessional staff on the phone. I will never bring my pet here. She was speaking to me as if I was a child and not answering my questions, her only concern was for me to pay for the first visit. My aunt called also to find out about the neutering of my puppy, and this same staff was so unprofessional that mentioned that somebody else had called about this procedure too. She didn't know if we were related? really? very unprofessional.

DO NOT TAKE YOUR PET TO SEE DR. HARBIN HERE IF YOU'RE LOOKING FOR FOLLOW UP ANSWERS TO YOUR DOG HEALTH CONCERNS! THIS PLACE IS INSENSITIVE OF PET OWNERS WORRIED ABOUT THEIR PETS HEALTH AND IS ONLY INTERESTED IN MONEY. My dog was seen for a sick visit by Dr. Harbin and prescribed medication. I became concerned because my dog was not reacting well to the medication and called the vet to speak with Dr. Harbin.

I was informed Dr. Harbin was working that day and would call me back shortly. After hours passed by I called back to follow up. I was told that Dr. Harbin left for the day and would maybe call me back on Monday. AND if I was concerned I could spend an additional $85 and return to ask any questions.

I specifically told them not to damage the hair while removing stiches/cup. They removed the stiches from my dogs ears and blood was coming up from her ears! Blood! Lets forgot about the hair no hair left and all bloody and they wrapped it just to charge me more! Vet seems like doesn't know anything except putting unnecessary charges for u! Worth to mention the vet tech and the receptionist were understanding!

I have the pictures how bloody it looked, if u couldnt do it the way i asked just dont f do it. I couldn't have done the same thing at home! Never coming back untill u guys get a real vet!

This is the second review I am leaving because I feel so strongly about this amazing place. I first wound up there in an emergency situation but when the Vet noticed dental work that needed to be done, I left my current vet and brought my cat back to this place! I was so impressed with the itemized invoice with an estimate about how much the procedure would cost, but even more impressed when the final bill came out to be less money.

When does that happen with a vet? Never for me. I'd like to thank Erin the Tech who went above and beyond, even going back inside to print out pics of the x-rays to show me what had been done with my cat's teeth. And thank you to Dr. Eppinger who did a great job and called afterward to discuss all that she did. I love this place and now can't take my cat anywhere else.

Critical: Professionalism, Quality, Reliability They charge a lot of money for nothing! their doctors are very rude and unprofessional dr. Petel (a lady) showed zero interest in my pup. Yet they were good at pushing so many unnecessary services and charging FOR SURE NOT RECOMMENDED AND NOT COMING BACK!

I had an emergency with my cat and could not have asked for better to staff to handle the stressful situation. A special thanks to Jodi & Victor- whom I may add- called to follow up a few days later to see how our cat was doing. I would highly recommend this place!

I'm not sure who they're paying to post positive reviews, but I will never refer them to anyone anymore or take my animals here again. Here's my review and I've got a long one: I had an appointment for a stray kitten I had been feeding and wanted him to get de-flead/wormed so I could get him out of the cold and foster him. I called them while I was looking for him and explained that he is a stray and I couldn't find him at the moment.

They said if I was 15 min late, they'd cancel my appointment. Not very understanding for a vet clinic but okay. I finally located him and raced 25 minutes to Union with a kitten that had never been in a car before, and was distressed the entire ride. I called them on my way as well and explained the situation, and why I would be 17-19 minutes late.

They said if I was any later they'd give up my slot. I arrive on the dot and they say I'm too late and he'd have to go in as an emergency. Not ideal but I agreed. They call a minute later and say he cannot go in as emergency and that I'd need to reschedule. At this point I was so frustrated and I calmly explained that he is a STRAY and I may not be able to locate him or put him in a carrier another time.

This doesn't matter because of 'time'. How are you a vet clinic and so ignorant of how unpredictable an animal could be? I brought him in because I thought he might get killed or freeze. This place is after one thing. Money. The receptionists/ vets are so rigid and hardheaded that nothing matters except keeping appointments. On top of that, they're very expensive.

I referred a person who's cat had an ear infection (in one ear), and it cost them over $350. Please go to People for Animals in Hillside. I was able to book an appointment right away and I explained that I may be late. They were understanding and told me to take my time finding him, they would hold my appointment or I'd just wait in the office for him to get seen. Completely understandable. Cancelling my appointment when I'm sitting in your parking lot with a crying kitten because of 'time'? Unforgivable.

I'm really happy with this vet office. Based on my experience they are fairly priced compared to other vets. Obviously something like Vetco is cheaper for vaccinations and things like that. I have an anxious dog and they take great care to bring him inside with as little distractions and triggers as possible. The location is amazing and they have tons of parking.

Called about a diabetic seizure and what to do prior to bringing in our pet. We wanted to try to stabilize him. The person who answered the phone was confused. We were then put on a long hold, then went to a ring tone and they never picked-up. Being that this is emergency medicine and the unprofessional person who answered the phone I would rather give this establishment zero stars if I could.

We went to another emergency vet clinic and was given much needed information to help stabilize our pet for the ride being that he was having seizures. I would not recommend this facility.

Took my blue nose pitbull to them and they treated her so good. She had an infection and had to get an emergency hysterectomy. The next day my Egypt was feeling better and they followed up the next morning on her. This is my go to spot for emergency care. Very professional.

I confirmed an appointment for my dog on Friday 8/6/21 at 1:30pm, yet I get a call from a technician today (Thursday 8/5/21) at 1:30pm asking me if I'm in the parking lot with my dog. I explained to the technician multiple times that my appointment was confirmed for Friday the following day, NOT today which is Thursday. Simply put, they were unwilling to resolve their mix up.

I even offered to head there now which would take me about 5 minutes to do (mind you at this point it is 1:35pm so assuming I was to head there I would arrive at 1:40pm) yet the "best they could offer" is for me to admit my dog into their emergency care unit. I will no longer be taking my dogs here and will take my business elsewhere as should you.

I took my dog there concerned because she had been throwing up. My dog was there for 4 hours before they called me to tell me that she looked fine physically but they suggest X-rays and bloodwork which would be another $600. I told them to do the X-rays cause I was very concerned for my dog. She said her stomach looked fine but something looked slightly abnormal so I should take her to a hospital to spend $600 on an ultrasound.

At this point everything felt fake because they don't let you inside to see anything. I told her to give me my dog back and she proceeded to try to guilt me into getting 3 shots for my dog that were over 100 each. All she needed to do was look at my dogs ears to see that she had a simple ear infection. CROOKS! THEY JUST WANT YOUR MONEY!

They only want your money. Felt like I was dealing with scummy mechanics. Came in for a quick shot for my dog and they added extra services without asking me first and charged me a lot. Held my dog hostage so I could pay. Sounds like a common theme here. Go to the smaller more caring local Vets, like the one in Kenilworth.

I rushed my max(brussel griffon 5 yr old) in because he ate half a grape. Dr.clare Deming and Carly were amazing. Mind you it was 130a.m. They had my dog back to me feeling fine 1 hour later. They were compassionate and understanding. Especially with covid in place you can not enter the building so they must take the dog from you at the door. The moment I handed Carly the dog 10 min later Dr. Deming told me step for step what will happen. Her voice on the phone was and I knew Max will be okay. Thank you for being a great staff. This morning he is doing awesome
