Arendell Animal Hospital is proud to serve the Morehead City NC area for everything pet related. Our veterinary clinic and animal hospital is run by Dr. Richard Hawkes, who is a licensed, experienced Morehead City veterinarian. Our team is committed to educating our clients in how to keep your pets healthy year round, with good nutrition and exercise.
At Arendell Animal Hospital, we strive to provide you with the highest-quality service possible to keep your companions feeling their best. Annual physical examinations are extremely important because of the relatively shorter lifespan of our pets. Thorough check-ups and preventive care can help alleviate serious health problems before they develop.
Richard Hawkes is a 1996 honors graduate from the Atlantic Veterinary College in Prince Edward Island, Canada. He moved to North Carolina in 1997 and spent 3 years working in Winston-Salem before moving to practice in Goldsboro. He hopes to provide the great compassion and quality of service people have come to expect from Arendell Animal Hospital, and he always enjoys meeting the many great clients.
Chandler and his husband Brandon, moved to Morehead City in 2018. He has been a part of the Arendell family since May of 2020. Some of Chandler's favorite activities are kayaking, paddle boarding, camping, hiking and tending to their flower beds and plants. Chandler and Brandon have four dogs Florence, Fitzgerald, and Samson who are Great Danes and Thanos who is a Doberman.

I've been taking my furry babies to Dr. Hawkes for over 20 years. He & staff clearly care deeply for my pups. Dr. Hawkes is easy to communicate with, explains everything and genuinely wants the best for my pups as I do. I drive close to an hour so my babies have the best possible care available. It's okay there good with perfectly fine dogs but whenever I have a question even abt food they say they don't even know and I had taken a rescue there just to get checked out and they made me put a muzzle on him and when the lady came back out she very rudely said "yeah uh he had fleas and peed on us" he was a submissive dog and peed when scared but there vets they should do better really

We recently had an emergency with our 12 year old fur baby while at the beach. She behaved as if she was having a seizure or stroke so we call and was seen promptly. Thank you for that. I felt the Vet had no clue what was going on with our baby even after VERY EXPENSIVE labs. She was admitted for IV and observation. We picked her up later in the afternoon with 3 additional medications.
Of course 2 were huge and she could not swallow them. We called back and they refused to take the UNOPENED pills back (over $100) worth. She obviously did not need the medication because she was better in a couple of days without them. My bill was over $500.00 for nothing! Nice people, incompetent treatment. WILL NEVER GO BACK!

I had been referred by my neighbor after our dog (Kaiser) broke his femur. It was a weekend and I doubted anyone would get back to me, but they did and were able to get my boy in for surgery 2 days after his break/er visit. They answered any and all questions after hours about care post surgery. I 100 percent feel they care about patients. My dog was not one of their patients, but after the whole experience he and his dog brother are now! Very very thankful for this Animal Hospital. Thank you doctor and staff!
