Animal Hospital-Council Bluffs Here, You're Family An advanced veterinary practice on a simple mission: to care for people like family, and to care for pets like our own. Because when your pet looks into your eyes, they see a hero. We'll help you care for them like one. Passion, Purpose, and Love We are animal lovers to our core. And to us, caring for your pet the right way is not a profession.

It is our calling in life. We believe in giving your pet the same quality of medicine that you would want for any member of your family. And while the goal is simple, the road to get there is complex.
Services
Dr. Melissa Harrer graduated from Iowa State University's College of Veterinary Medicine. Her philosophy on veterinary medicine is to provide high-quality care, thorough examination, and comprehensive diagnostic and treatment options. She enjoys all aspects of veterinary medicine, especially dermatology, internal medicine and surgery; with a special interest in stem cell therapy and laser surgery.
As with humans, pets have certain physical, emotional and lifestyle needs that contribute to their overall health. However, pets can't articulate their needs or feelings if something seems to be out of order. So the task of health maintenance for our pets falls to us and, of course, we can't just ask our pets how they feel.
Platelet-Rich Plasma, or PRP, is blood plasma that contains concentrated amounts of platelets and growth factors. PRP is a non-surgical and advanced means of providing high doses of the body's own healing factors directly to the area where they are needed. When your pet undergoes surgery, you may have a number of concerns.
Fundraising Grants Education Mentoring As a clinic we hold fund raisers for the American Cancer Society Relay for Life, Imana Kids and Salvation Army in Council Bluffs. We donate veterinary care, food and treats for the Council Bluffs Fire Department dog, Gibson. We donate veterinary care to the Mills County Sheriff canines and Glenwood Police canines.

Everyone was very friendly and easy to work with. Dropping my dog off before work and picking her up after work was very convenient.

Great group of people. Took car of our cat quite well. Will be going back. A lot better manners and hospitality than Malvern's vet.

Dr Westerguard (not worth looking up spelling of her name) is a psycho bitch. She lies, gives misinformation and can't relay the same misinformation she tells YOU to her front end staff. This place NEVER gets the gender of your pets right when the information is RIGHT in front of them. The prices are never consistent. It smells in the building. I've been hung up on from the front end staff or had to call a dozen times because they leave you hanging on hold for ever. Seriously, the reviews you're reading are absolute lies.

Go to the vet on Valley View. Much better service. And to add, while the rest of the world has realized covid was a bunch of bs, THIS psychotic bunch of looney tunes is STILL enforcing capacity restrictions and masks. So I can go to the bank, grocery store, mall, movies, out to eat, etc and NOT have to wear a mask, but these idiots are still convinced they're "doing the right thing" by yelling at you to cover your mouth in a VET.

Miss Priss and her gang guaranteed don't wear them in public, but they sure think they're hot stuff getting in your face to tell you to put one on. I'm not kidding, this woman is crazy.

We took our dog there for a routine physical, shots, and a mild eye problem. We were impressed with the veterinarians and technicians they had there. It's easy to get there, park, and get through COVID screening. They're very good at getting documentation to whoever needs it.

Dr. Merchant has been so great in caring for my girl. She's caring and concerned over my dog's overall health (anxiety). I took her to get her teeth cleaned but her BP was much too high and the doctor felt it was unsafe to continue. Sure, they could have done it anyway but the decision not to shows me they really care about their patients! We're working on her BP and anxiety.

Glenwood Animal Clinic saved my dog's life yesterday. No way words could express my gratitude. They acted immediately and my girl wouldn't be here today had they not done so. Many thanks

Great service and they gave appointments! The phone-in system leaves much to be desired but the quality of care is superior. We took our new (rescue) cat in for a check-up. They were very helpful and got us started on the right path. Definitely will continue with them.

They genuinely care about your pets health, if your pet is sick they explain what your pet needs in laymans terms answer your question about care and medications. They give you a follow-up call after a couple days to see how things are going.

Small town vets are the best. I live in La Vista, NE and it's quite the drive, but my Tali dog knows the place and is comfortable there. The doc is super nice and knowledgeable and helpful.

I was a 10yr resident of the Glenwood, IA area and have had a few experiences with the Glenwood Vet Clinic. Most have been barable.not great, but barable. I believe in supporting local business so I took the service for what it was and came expect that customer service in that business was non-existent. In my book, that still far exceeds RUDE staff and poor customer service.

For a time while living near Glenwood, I cared for my mothers cat. While caring for the cat, I took her to the clinic to have a check up. Now that the cat is back in my mothers care, she called to have the cats records faxed to her new vet. My name was listed as "owner" and my mothers name was apparently also listed in the chart, but below mine. The person, Lisa, that spoke with my mom was horribly rude and demeaning.

When I called and spoke with her, she interrupted me twice and raised her voice as well. I would take no customer service over rude and horrible customer service any day and twice on Sunday. Thank goodness I recently moved because I couldn't FORCE myself to spend money there again.

Animal Clinic of Council Bluffs. Best and Most Amazing veterinary care for my Persian Cat (Shadow). Dr. Melissa Harrer, Dr. Kristen Westergaard, and Dr. Sue Walters are absolutely amazing. The best and most compassionate care I have ever seen in all my years owning Persian Cats (since 1992). They even do stem cell storage. wow cutting edge stuff. I am so very impressed with the quality of the staff.

The compassion, sweetness, knowledge and professionalism they have is absolutely wonderful. I am extremely moved by the compassionate medicine these three doctors bring to the World. Thank God I found them. I am comfortable with any three of these critter healers (Dr. Harrer, Dr. Westergaard and Dr. Walters) with my Persian Cats. I feel so at ease when I bring my boy in every time.

I am also on their amazing Platinum Wellness Program for optimum prevention. It is only like 34 bucks a month and I get so much for that. Nothing but the best for my puffy, happy boy, Shadow. He has blossomed into such a handsome and healthy boy now since I rescued him (not a pretty sight when I got him) that I have become inspired to get into Pet Photography.

The Animal Clinic of Council Bluffs Doctors really helped get Shadow into a beautiful vibrant Life. I am eternally grateful to your Clinic and to your other location, the Glenwood Veterinary Clinic for asking me to take your patient pet photos with Santa. The Santa Paws charity event a couple weeks ago. It was so very fun and for such a great cause. Thank you again, All of you. :) Jeff
